Thought on de-SE'ing the DVD
Time
At any rate, here's what I hope my "Epsidode IV" edit will look like. I'm trying to learn how to use Womble, but not having much luck at all.

I'd use the '04 DVD with '97 SE audio as the base. This way, all the bad audio is already taken care of.
I'd start by plugging in the original logos from the laserdisc.
And if at all possible, I'd also try to use the "Editdroid" opening crawl, because I like the lack of "A new Hope".

Then I'd see what I could do with the "Look sir, droids!" scene. Ideally, I'd like to have the SE footage, minus entirely new shots. If not, I can plug OT footage in.

I would leave Mos Eisley entrace the same, except cutting the shot of the Ronto freaking out. Starting where that shot would be, I'll plug in OT laserdisc footage until Luke pulls off after the troopers tells them to move along. Then it'd cut back to DVD footage. (yes, i know there'll be a Ronto in the next few shots, but it's allright with me.)

I'd plug wolfman back into the cantina.

As far as making Greedo shoot first, I'd have DVD footage up until Han says "Yes, I'll be you have". Then I'll cut to laserdisc footage for a few frames of Greedy "exploding" and cut back to DVD footage to see him slump on the table. (If that'll work, I don't know)

Cut Jabba. By either plugging in OT for the shot before and after, or doing a new "fade" myself.

And I'll do SOMETHING about Luke's horrible green saber, even if it means plugging in '97 SE footage.

I'd want to plug the original trash monster back in for the few seconds you see it (with '97 SE footage), but no big deal if I can't.

And I'd put the original English "Power - Tractor Beam" back in, but once again no big deal if I can't.

Cut Biggs.

When the X-wings take off, I want to plug OT laserdisc footage in so they appear as white dots. Also, I'll have the initial "onto the Death Star" shot of the X-wings be from the OT. But after everyone "stands by", the rest of the battle will be DVD footage.

That's what I *hope* to do, anyway. It's not looking good so far...

Would it be possible for someone like me to edit the Star Wars DVDs with Womble editor?

I'm not talking anything complex, simply cutting out the parts I don't like and putting in either video from the SE or OT Laserdisc transfers.

Example: Cut out the Jabba dance number starting with the shot before with the droid being welted on it's feet and ending with the shot of threepio showing disgust before Jabba eats a frog. Then replace the scene with LD footage, frame accurate. Soundtrack included.

Would I have to simplify the original soundtrack to stereo to make it compatible with the LD? And will I need to either de-anamorphic the original DVD, or make the LD transfer anamorphic? Thanks for all your help, and if I succeed, the forums might have a decent De-SE set on their hands.

Lucas Forced Himself To Write 'Episode III'
Time
To the Bizzle, you listen!

Some people are just obsessivly hating him. Even if he did something that was great, they would spit on it.
Granted he hasn't been the king of good decision making latley, but forcing himself to write isn't inheritly a bad thing. He had to do the same thing with the original movie, didn't he?
And weren't the Special Editions his "passionatte rejuvination" of what he originally had to force himself to write anyway?

Well good luck with the rest of this and the next two edits, Editous! (good name)

Another great way to get your "Ultimate Edition" trilogy shared, once it's done, is uploading it as a torrent. I'm sure Rikter or someone would love to do that for you!

MTFBWY

EDIT: And screenshots rock! Can you show us a few shots of stuff you've painted out/on? Like the green R5?

Well whenever you complete the project, I would love to take a peek at it.

And the ROTJ might work too, given what you said above. The eyebrows I don't really mind but I thought it might be worth changing back usign '97 SE footage.
I don't know how easy it'd be to cut around the musical number.... and it is important. Cant' you make just one exception and put the old on in? please please please?
Haha, no pressure, i'm half-kidding.

And even if it is PAL, I think people could download something to transfer it to NTSC on their computers, right?

There's a few times where I think you'd have to include non-DVD footage, and they're all in ROTJ.

The Jabba musical number, the sarlacc, Sebastian's eyebrows, and the ghosting.

And believe me, the described ANH is AMAZING. Wow, that'd be great to have sitting on my desk.
The ultimate Special Edition, the way it should have been the first time.

Sweet, Adigitalman!!!

That's the edit I've been waiting for! Similar to, but not as drastic as, the MagnoliaFan edits and keeping all original story elements and characters. (AKA not changing Jar Jar or making Dooku's saber yellow)

Are you changing the actual title's of the films too?

I'd be very interested in seeing the finished product. ANd are you planning on editing episode III as well? (we all know the crawl of that one could use work for sure)
