***The "Darth Editous" Episode IV DVD Info and Feedback Thread*** - a partially "de-specialed" DVD
Time
Thank you, Darth Editous, not just for making the DVD etself, but for the great quality of shipping. I wasn't expecting first class shipping in a padded envelope in a full DVD case!
That was really nice.

And anyone in the US who wants a copy of the NTSC version, PM me.
EDIT: First three, anyway. I need the other two padded envelopes in the package I just bought.

How do I hard code alien subtitles into the video like you did?
I'm working on my own edit of the six films, and this sounds like a better idea than creating a subtitle stream.

I am using Womble mpeg-vcr to edit the video, if this helps. (And how, or with what program, do I create scene transitions and wipes that look like a professional editing job, instead of what Womble offers?)

The "Dr. Gonzo" Trilogy DVD Info and Feedback Thread (Released)
Time
Can we get some seeders for ROTJ?

I have to download the whole thing for a De-SE project I'm working on.
All I need is the original Jabba song in anamorphic video and 5.1 sound, so it's compatible with the official DVD.

Can anybody here send me the video clip from Dr. Gonzo of the original Jabba dance number? I have Gmail, so I can hold a gigabyte of space. That'd be much appreciated. PM me if you are able to do it.

Star Wars: Classic Edition by Ocpmovie (Released)
Time
*Starts chanting* Torr-ent! Torr-ent! Torr-ent!

To anyone who has seen it, what does the end battle look like? Is the whole sequence LD footage, or just parts that were changed?

This sounds like the ANH De-SE to end all ANH De-SEs....

In my mind, none of Lucasfilm's "official" DVD release of the 6 films will do for my "final" versions. I plan eventually on cannabilizing a bunch of different phantom edits and my official copy to make my ideal TPM. Same with AOTC.
As for the OT, I'm waiting for a good De-SE that I can mess with just a little bit to get exactly how I like it. But this edit might just be final! lol

original trilogy - why do you care so much?
Time
Well that's the main reason anyway.

I actually was raised on a pan-n-scan VHS copy of the '97 Special Edition trilogy.

But you may ask, "well then why the hell do you want the original versions if you weren't even raised on them??"

And I say, because they are better! The special editions SUCK!
It seems like I'm the opposite of most. Instead of growing up with originals but preferring the SEs, I grew up with the SEs and prefer the originals!

Christian Wisdom of the Jedi Masters
Time
Hey, I just have to share this little nugget of joy I found at the bookstore today.

I was looking under Religion, to find more Christian non-fiction and the worlds "Jedi" jumped out at me from the spine of a book.
I picked it up and it was a book that is using the Star Wars saga (trilogy, more accuratley) as an analogy or myth about the Christian Gospel.

Amazon Link

Biblically literate Star Wars fans have long recognized similarities between Jedi teachings and biblical wisdom. Staub, a broadcaster and director of the Center for Faith and Culture in Seattle, artfully lays out many similarities for Christians who want to claim Jedi wisdom as their own. After seeing a Star Wars prequel, Staub realized that a young man he was mentoring wanted "to be a 'Jedi Christian,' " but Staub's generation had not produced a Yoda. To correct that, Staub takes on the role of a modern-day Yoda (the wise sage) by speaking directly to readers as aspiring Jedi Christians and doling out his understanding of Christian theology. Thankfully, Staub resists the urge to fit all-things-Jedi into a Christian framework, but instead picks and chooses from Jedi (as well as Buddhist, Jewish, Taoist and mystical) teachings, comparing what he finds with biblical wisdom. Because the book is so biblically oriented, it seems to be reaching out to young evangelical Christians, asking them to consider a more progressive tradition of Christian faith—one that embraces liberal Christian philosophers, theologians and mystics, and social and environmental activism. Using Jedi culture as a draw, Staub builds a number of bridges with this book that will keep coffeehouse theological discussions going at least as long as Star Wars films are popular. (Apr.) (Publishers Weekly, February 28, 2005)

I can't wait to start reading it, and thought I should let you guys know!
If you've never really heard the message or want to know more but don't want to dive deep into any religious stuff, maybe this would be a good read!

Idea -- Original Theatrical Prequels
Time
Would anyone be interested in recreating the AOTC Imax edit?

That'd be the perfect edit to AOTC, if you ask me. Episode II is the longest Star Wars film and the hardest to sit through without longing to press pause and go see what's going on elsewhere.
This would get AOTC back to a decent running time of about 2 hours. And what it cuts out really wouldn't be missed anyway, IMHO.

Just another idea. I still am trying to learn how to edit video myself, so we'll see how that goes. But this would be a great project to undertake!

Thought on de-SE'ing the DVD
Time
And lastly, what I hope to be done for ROTJ...

Plug original logos back in.

Plug the original Jabba dance number back in, starting with the power droid getting welted in the foot and ending when the song is over.

Have Han tell Lando "Trust me" instead of "It's allright, I can see a lot better."

Try to fix the bad sabers. But if that isn't possible, plug '97 SE footage in for them when they go bad.

Put '97 SE footage in for the unmasking. I'm just so used to seeing him with eyebrows, I want to change it back!

This is tricky, but here's what my ideal ending for ROTJ would be. Camera pans up from Vader's funeral pyre, and the '97 SE montage of planets goes by. AKA, no Naboo. Sorry, but NO gungans in the OT, thankyouverymuch. Then the rest is DVD footage up until the ghosts. Obviously, we'll have to put Shaw back in there.

Well that's what I hope to do, although it's looking discouraging....
If anyone thinks they can do a better job at what I'm trying to do, feel free! Mine will never be more than an ameature attempt and will never look worthy of replacing a different Star Wars DVD.

And for The Empire Strikes Back...

Again, plug original logos back in.

Original wampa cave sequence. It might be possible to edit the DVD footage to match the original scene without resorting to OT laserdisc footage. But if need be, I'll plug away.

Original "Emperor's phone call" scene, plugged from the '97 SE.

Make Artoo "taste good" again.

Put Fett's original voice back in where it should be. For the love of anything sacred....

Something must be done about Vader's pink saber. If I can't correct it, I'll plug '97 SE footage in for it when it goes to crap.

Plug OT laserdisc for Lando's evacuation speech, just because I like the original way better. Can't explain why.

Put "Bring my shuttle" back in.

Cut Vader actually going *to* his shuttle and landing on the Star Destroyer. I don't know if this is possible with the audio changes and pace of music without resorting to laserdisc footage.
