Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1
Time

Wow, Harmy, this looks fantastic. I think ROTJ was the most FUBAR of the OT 2004 transfers.

The colors look brilliant and accurate. The Sarlacc looks totally seamless, far better than I'd ever imagined would be possible! The musical number blends in surprisingly well. The Death Star 'splosion looks good. And the final scene looks seamless too; I can't even tell when it switches sources!

The only thing that I think even potentially could be improved is Anakin's eyebrows. I'm sure what I am seeing is the best possible job of recompositing them, but I point this out as the sole item of changes that is not totally seamless.

That being said, I really need to find a blu-ray player. :)

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

*standard preface about feeling bad about posting criticism of this awesome project*

The only thing I'd still suggest tweaking about a future version of SW DeSpecialized is the lightsaber duel. I know rotoscoping it is not feasible, but about half the time Vader's saber still looks pinkish. Perhaps this is the best it can look without throwing the other colors off.

Here's an email I just received from a movie buff friend who I recommended your work to:

I am watching Star Wars now. I usually make a point of watching movies all the way through with next to no interruption, but I have to say, I had to stop it to send you this. It looks beautiful! It's hard to believe it even exists. I'm glad I put off rewatching the original series until something like this came along. I used to be kind of indifferent to Star Wars, but now I'm really enjoying it and appreciating the craft of the story for the first time--not necessarily BECAUSE of this despecialized edition, just because I've only recently really developed a good taste for adventure sci-fi, so I guess it's just good timing. Anyway, yay this!

I don't know much about the history of audio mixes of SW, but does anyone know of our current best source for the mono mix featured in this project?

Also, I wonder if anyone's attempted an up mix of it that would retain its distinct audio choices in a mix suitable for modern setups.

I enjoyed listening to bits of it and enjoying how the occasional audio difference catches me off guard.

You should lower your expectations or you may be disappointed ;-)

My high expectations brought on by your past achievements were exceeded.

I feel like all the 'roadblocks' to enjoying watching the film have been removed. There's no SE garbage, and no significantly distracting artifacts of their removal.

It's just awesome to both, say, make out the individual whiskers on Kenobi's beard while also avoiding any obvious CGI. It's the almost fully original version restored in crystal picture.
