Here’s what I have at this point for the Hosnian destruction, featuring NeverarGreat’s FX shots to darken SKB and remove the star destroyer. The audio sounds pretty unmolested, since the cut to the surface of the planet is in the same place audio-wise that the cut to Finn boarding the ship originally was. I added the sound effect for the exploding planet in the distance. I’m happier with this version than any prior.

Don’t worry, the crawl will look gorgeous once Sir Ridley renders it for us! I’m fully confident in that.

My thing with Ren identifying FN-2187 is that it seems strange that he called him by serial number, or would even be inclined to want to. But, eh, it’s probably more consistent with the overall project to put it back.

I’m inclined to keep the opening “warning” as it is, since it matches my other fan edits, sans any other opening logos. Showing people the edit without them knowing it is a fan edit is not covered by its warranty. 😃

The files you sent work well this way, moreso than the folded down stereo you had sent prior. It’s hard to tell on my stereo setup, but I can see that the specific sounds are more where they ought to be now, which is good. It will help it feel more in line with the rest of the movie’s soundtrack. (Subliminal things, and more obvious things like the Falcon flying by the camera panning from front to back.) Thanks again for doing that; it helps.
I still haven’t had the chance, and won’t tonight, to implement your darkened SKB firing shots, and inclusion of the additional shot without the star destroyer. I’m hoping the music will still fit in with the modified length. I’m not convinced that the re-ordering you proposed the other day will be the best avenue, either.

About Ren identifying FN-2187, it just seemed a little weird to me that he came up with the serial number like that. Not that it’s impossible, just weird. I don’t know; I could put it back how it was since it really is outside the goal.

About seeing the screaming people on Hosnian Prime… we are hoping to include the deleted scene in which Leia sends off her emissary, in which case it would be needed. And if not, it is beyond jarring to omit those shots and feature the ones right before and after.

About the crawl… I like it the way it is, partly because it is kept as close to the theatrical as possible, aside from deliberate changes made. I am very picky with the wording on these things, and don’t feel the need to have them comport 110% with the film itself. That is my sensibility about it, anyway. I’ll make sure it looks good before passing it to Sir Ridley to generate a crawl once the time comes.

R2’s hard drive lights… I really like how it is at present, finding it a sublime level of subtlety. I would not want to make it more obvious. It’s a nice ‘blink and you miss it’ thing, similar to Obi-Wan sneaking on board Padme’s ship as she heads to Mustafar, in edits that remove the “Jedi bathroom.”

I feel it’s the right thing to do to have the disclaimer in front of the movie. I opted not to include the glimmering FanEdit.org logo though, or my own logo, in order to minimize the effect you’re talking about, and to keep it silent as the film’s own opening logos are. V1 had the Hal9000 logo run post-credits, and I don’t think V2 will have it at all because most of the actual goods produced have been from you all! Maybe just the FE.org logo at the end. But I feel it’s… “responsible”… to have the silent text at the start. That or possibly a quick, silent FE.org logo or something. I understand why you would want to sit someone down in front of it without being aware that its an edit, and I would share in that, but I think it needs to be there.

And, NeverarGreat, I will see what I can do with your audio. Thanks for sending it; would not hurt to give it a try.

If your edit, based on TFA:Restructured, moves the SKB plot around, would such a conversation be appropriate for the first Snoke scene? As it is, the weapon isn’t brought up until the second Snoke scene.

Maybe people are figuring this is at least something to run with and try to press for an answer based on.

I never checked out Samurai Jack back when it was new, for some reason. Maybe I was beginning to age out of cartoons somewhat. I did enjoy the original Clone Wars microseries, though. When I heard they were bringing Samurai Jack back to conclude the series, I delved into the show beginning with the first episode. I was enthralled, enjoying each episode more than the last. No episode was truly a clunker, and the show impressed me greatly. I got through the show faster than I anticipated since it was of such high quality, and found myself anxiously awaiting the new revival miniseries. It’s an unbelievably enjoyable show, and I’ll be sad to see it end.
I recommended the show to a friend of mine and showed him a few episodes from season 1, and suggested that he save ‘Jack and the Traveling Creatures’ for last, prior to heading into the new Season 5. I hope we get to see Jack defeat the guardian and live up to the prophesied ‘conquering king’ visage we glimpsed after their first encounter.
Give Genndy another Star Wars show! I find it difficult to watch TCW or Rebels’ ugly animation.

That’s definitely an improvement. I’d say it would be worth it to include if indeed the envoy deleted scene is used as well.

Especially if that’s the case, it wouldn’t do anything to merit any of the chipper attitude at the end. All it’d do is offset the ‘revenge’ motive for the trench run, and even then it wouldn’t since the fighters would be unaware.
Maybe the dialogue between Hux and Snoke could be considering their next target, just enough to imply that it’s important this thing be destroyed.
Although, having the base about to fire again would address the apparent “problem” (only for those very aware of the theatrical version in which one star equals one shot) of SKB exploding into a star after it had discharged.

If Hayden is going to feature in TLJ as the ghost of Anakin Skywalker, how would we feel if they portrayed him as an aged man, perhaps not quite as old looking as Shaw was, but much moreso than Hayden in 2005? Made him look not like the Jedi he was when he turned to the dark side, but the wizened figure he may have become if he had continued on as a Jedi.

I would prefer the prequels be referenced occasionally, though not in a way that would dredge up any of their continuity issues with the original trilogy. For example, no references to Qui-Gon as Obi-Wan’s master, since in the OT it was Yoda who trained him. Featuring Bail Organa as played by Jimmy Smitts is perfectly fine, being a character referenced in the OT and nothing about his prequel portrayal strains this. I’d rather not reference Threepio being built by Anakin.
Y’know, reference and include the prequels to whatever degree is appropriate, but I’d avoid anything that wouldn’t read well if one hadn’t seen them.

No, I’m glad you did! It’s now a distinct avenue we could choose to use. In the MC role I’ve come to hold on the project, I’m happy to let Ridley call this one. 😃

Rewatching the scene in V1, the only shot that looks like it could use some work would be the one with the trees. But it’s only daylight for less than a second before the red beam envelopes everything. Are you perhaps thinking the planet shouldn’t have as much light shining on it when we see it from space?

Nice! I’ll let Sir Ridley decide how to handle the sequence, but it seems like a distinctly viable way to go, so thank you for making it available.

Yeah, I’m glad you brought the idea up and we were able to give it a try today, but ultimately feel that the structure as in V1 would be best to retain.
Although, if you’re able to ditch the star destroyer from its shot in the firing scene, I agree it’d be nice to keep.

Yes. It’s thematically linked more than logically. The same point could be made about Luke in ROTJ; presumably, the team would have destroyed the Death Star regardless of Luke’s success or failure onboard.

Unrelated: I don’t think Threepio’s like has a place in the briefing scene. “Without the Republic fleet, we’re doomed.”
