Could you pass along just the modified, “All craft,” audio clip?
Could you pass along just the modified, “All craft,” audio clip?
Sheesh. I’ve had a sense of distaste at the idea of a young Han Solo film from the beginning, and I’m glad these standalone can be ignored easily. Star Wars is special, and I hope it doesn’t spiral downward into Marvel… I guess the best word would be oversaturation, that sense of having so much content that none of it feels special anymore.
Even as a kid, I had a strong preference for the original version of ROTJ.
My Star Wars is a pan-n-scan 1997 Special Edition (of ANH and ESB) and original (of ROTJ) VHS rented from Blockbuster.
During the intro to the special edition VHS, the Darth Vader statue behind Lucas had a bent lightsaber.
But I do miss the announcer inviting me to sit back and enjoy the ___ installment of the Star Wars Trilogy: Special Edition.
Hayden Christensen in the library at the beginning of Ghostbusters?
If it can be, but it remains to be seen.
For years I’ve wondered in the back of my mind what it would look like to take every possible color correction attempt that got very far, average them out, and apply to the BluRays. In my head, all of them have equal weight, and for yucks the GOUT, 97SE, technicolor scans, and the BluRays themselves all get a vote, too.
Incredible stuff you’ve achieved, Dr. We march ever closer to our sought-after ultimate restoration.
Yes, the two biggest missing scenes are Leia trying to warn the Republic during their assault, and the First Order preparing to rearm and target the Resistance base afterward.
Thanks, Ridley. I’ve got some BB8 motor sounds at present, but we’ll see if these can’t make it better. I think it works well without any 3PO sounds, but I will see what can be done!
Also, minor note: the female pilot reaction shot during the firing sequence has been replaced with a now unused shot of Poe craning his neck to look at something off to one side.
And I invite anyone to try their hand at a scene between Snoke and Hux to depict them planning to rearm and target the Resistance base. I’m afraid my methods yield YouTube Poop levels of sentence mixing. 😛
No, no. Mockup is great! Making it seamless as a real thing to be published… is a different beast. 😛
That’s all I’m gonna be able to do today, but I’m happy with this new take on the X-wing scene.
I’m not optimistic for the Snoke and friends scene, so I invite anyone who is capable to try to weave together something. I wasn’t able to get it sounding anything but awful! But, I might just be out of my element due to being tired at this point; will try again later.

I still think Ackbar’s, and I can’t put enough quotes around what follows, “lip sync” works better without reversing that shot.
Thank you! The center channel is not just for dialogue, and so I’m not surprised to hear other sounds there.
Here’s my best attempt at implementing a revised X-wing sequence with Ackbar. Same as before, not perfect, but I don’t think anything stands out in a bad way.

Here’s a full-sized version of the firing sequence, if a anyone would like to test it out on their audio equipment!

Would it be sufficient to insert that little scene along with a line from Ackbar? If everything else played out from that point, I don’t see any incongruities. It’d even help address the apparent problem (for those who have the theatrical TFA on the brain) of SKB exploding into a new star.
Thanks; that does help some. I’ve spent about 2.5 hours this evening laser focused on making what’s there sound as good as I can get it using all my tricks. I’m rendering a high-quality encode of the whole sequence, and I’ll upload it for you all in the morning. It’s not quite what a professional would be happy with, but we aren’t exactly working with source material, and I think it sounds very decent, and well worth the slight tradeoff.
I was working on implementing the firing sequence, but there are a few clicks and things in the audio.
Any chance you’d be able to export your isolated sound effects tracks in 5.1? Or just the separate mono files for each stream?
EDIT:
The only clicks I hear are during the shot of the (now darkened) SKB firing (the one right after the two control room shots). Is there a way to fix this click sound, or re-export and see if it’s gone?
Also, is there any way to export without downmixing to stereo? You were able to do this for the SKB explosion sequence, which really helped the final result.
Well, wait. I suppose it doesn’t matter if it’s implied to be Hux there, in this new context. Does the shot have to be reversed to use that line?
I think I prefer the shots not flipped, and without Gleeson’s unmistakable (to me) “Fire.”
But the second firing mockup ain’t bad. We’d processed the overall idea and found it wanting in the past.
In the reading WAY too far into things department, I like the use of those two ‘control room’ shots in the firing sequence for what it telegraphs:
Now, in the ‘weapon charging’ scene, it goes from a propaganda speech to the brainwashed masses to seemingly two or three people overlooking… something, and pushing the buttons to begin the process.
Then, when we get to the actual weapon firing, we get some people scrambling to comply with orders, one of which looks somewhat uncomfortable with it.
Yeah… it’s the only instance in the entire movie they do that sort of “salute,” and we see them facing the (now) drainage from the star later.
As far as sync goes, there’s not any wiggle room whatsoever; the shot needs to begin and end in that spot with every frame it has. But I think it’s perfectly fine in a series of movies with stormtrooper footstep audio synced like this:
https://youtu.be/YLFhbLSl1CU?t=21s
That works flawlessly. Here’s the sequence at present, leaving no problem using the control rooms shots for the firing sequence:

Perhaps you could use the beginning of the Hux shot. (The ending has a nice graphic of the Sun being drained that’s more relevant to earlier.)
EDIT: NeverarGreat, would you mind sending the cropped shot? It’s not that I couldn’t do it myself, it’s just that… you already have. I may not have time to right away, but I will see if that longer shot would let me remove the two control room shots in order to save them for the SKB firing sequence. 😃
It’s a lot of listening to the same thing over and over, monkeying with volume levels, crossfade points and lengths, isolating channels, and then scrapping it because a simple uniform crossfade actually sounded better.
Hal I was reading a few posts back and you were iffy on weather to keep kyle knowing Finns number. The numbers are stupid. Good cut. My 2 scents
I agree, but it’s outside the goals of the project. This isn’t necessarily “Beautiful Finished Product Fan Edit of First Disney Star Wars Movie,” but rather “Simple Concept Applied to Movie (Can Be Source For Your Beautiful Finished Product Fan Edit of First Disney Star Wars Movie If You Like)”.
