Good idea; done.
Good idea; done.
Here’s the SKB explosion sequence, having taken the opportunity to give it some fresh eyes as well. It’s not perfect, but I tried to make it as dynamic as possible:

Here’s a link for you, Ridley: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bcknvhoxwl22ype/Leia deleted scene edited audio for Ridley.zip?dl=0
I’ve included three tracks:
From this thread you also have access to NeverarGreat’s provided audio and the raw deleted scene audio, so I wish you luck! Thanks for being willing to pursue this rabbit trail.
Gotcha, Ridley. I’ll do that tonight if I can, but I am away from home at present. 😃
The deleted scenes have no surroundsound, they are presented in stereo. That’s where a lot of the trouble comes in. There’s just nothing else to work with.
I know I said this last time, but I can’t imagine tweaking it to be any better than this:

The word “immediately” was originally part of a larger sentence, “…find BB8 immediately…” and I cannot get it to sound any better than NeverarGreat did. The space between this word and, “Our future may depend on it,” actually had to be spaced out a little, making it very difficult to smooth over the background noise without a very distinct and jarring repetition (like when a digital audio file glitches).
I was, however, able to fix the problem with the “insane” line and think that portion of the scene sounds pretty good now.
To my eyes, the colors look beautiful, but if NeverarGreat desires to try to tweak them further, I will use whatever is deemed best.
Good feedback! Here’s another attempt.

Another attempt. I was thankfully able to use the deleted scene sounds to squeeze a few seconds of ‘dead air’ sounds to adapt to the scene in question. I think it sounds about as good as it’s going to.

Thanks very much. I’m giving the SKB explosion some fresh eyes, and had the obvious (in retrospect) idea to sub the stereo OST in for your mono music track, helping that sequence from feeling un-dynamic.
Thank you! Might you also supply the direct audio from the deleted scene, unprocessed? I only own the original BluRay, not the one with all the good stuff on it. Appreciated.
Would you please export a version of the dialogue track without the tweak to Leia’s line?
Here’s how the scene looks once it’s fully baked into the rest of my timeline. I recreated the wipes to and from the ships flying by because I slightly retimed the fade of the music to match, and so I could use the original sound effects of the ships which would be jarring to lose. I think NeverarGreat’s recoloring of the deleted scene itself blends more smoothly into the rest of the film, so I’ve used that.
I am certain these are issues with the source material itself, but Leia’s line about taking action against the First Order sounds as if it were cobbled together. And it sounds like she is doing a Rick belch as she says the word “insane.” I don’t remember noticing these before, though I probably haven’t done such a close examination. Not big deals.

I will take a look and see what to do with these. I will be occupied today, going around eating pie and such, but should be able to give some attention to it tomorrow.
I believe all I would need after this is the opening crawl and the Star Destroyer over Maz’s Castle sequence. 😄
I can roll that clip into yours when I compile it in my timeline, if that’s easier.
Stunning and flawless work! Very, very good. 😃
I don’t want to hurt my eyes, but can someone confirm that [outtake footage of] Hayden as Force ghost has his facial scar?
I think the most recent revision to the crawl is what I’d like it to be, so that’s fine.
The wait will be worth it for what you are bringing to the table, so we will just see whether it happens to be in time for TLJ. Not a problem either way.
Just checking in on this. If we are to release this in advance of TLJ, I’ll need the finished clips soon. I understand if it’s not possible; it’ll get finished and be just as good either way.
Good to hear; I stay away from this thread for the most part only because I am looking forward to seeing it mostly fresh.
Please tell me that in Anakin’s first scene in the Jedi Council room, when he says, “What?” to Sam Jackson, he responds with, “SAY WHAT AGAIN.”
EDIT: Then Anakin simply says, “What?” again, then Sam Jackson delivers his grimace from the original scene.
^Fair enough. But at least you understand it before disliking it.
My ‘you people’ was rhetorical, I know the community at large here doesn’t need my lecture.
What do you people want, dead ghosts that lie motionless on the ground?
Anakin appears as himself as he should have been by that point in his life. His redemption carries through to the Force-afterlife. When he was redeemed and lay dying in Luke’s arms, he was Anakin again, and Vader was no more. To paste Hayden onto Anakin’s ghost is to truly divorce yourself from the story you told in 1983. That’s the whole point of Anakin’s story in ROTJ: he did NOT die when Vader arose in the pre-ANH era, he is alive and he came through at the end. Anakin’s ghost therefore appears, as do Obi-Wan’s and Yoda’s, at the age he died.
It’s amazing to me how people struggle with the redemption plot of ROTJ, which is my favorite aspect to any of the films. (Though ROTJ isn’t my favorite overall.)
I agree in regards to this particular project that these things ought to be left alone, but do sincerely look forward to checking out NeverarGreat’s edit too.
I know all this FX work must be a gob and a half, but once I’ve got the crawl, Maz’s castle, and Leia deleted scene we can hopefully have this thing up ahead of TLJ’s release.
(Oooooh, that’s right, the new trailer should be later today!)
Wow, I remember being a cringey youngster around here, and now there’s people younger than TPM making intelligent points!
EDIT: I joined as a 13-year-old in 2003.
Won’t be an issue in V2. 😉
