TFA: A Gentle Restructure (Released)
Time

Here’s a link for you, Ridley: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bcknvhoxwl22ype/Leia deleted scene edited audio for Ridley.zip?dl=0

I’ve included three tracks:

 • Already existing audio from the film (leads into and back out of the sequence)
 • Music added from the soundtrack (presented for you in 5.1, though it’s just the stereo OST in channels 1 & 2, the same thing a little quieter in channels 5 & 6, and both stereo channels put into channel 3)
 • Added dialogue/FX track (I used NeverarGreat’s provided audio for the first part, crossfading into my own handling of the deleted scene audio between “immediately” and “our future may depend on it.” Presented in true stereo, not in contrived 5.1, which would have featured both channels mashed into channel 3.)

From this thread you also have access to NeverarGreat’s provided audio and the raw deleted scene audio, so I wish you luck! Thanks for being willing to pursue this rabbit trail.

I know I said this last time, but I can’t imagine tweaking it to be any better than this:

The word “immediately” was originally part of a larger sentence, “…find BB8 immediately…” and I cannot get it to sound any better than NeverarGreat did. The space between this word and, “Our future may depend on it,” actually had to be spaced out a little, making it very difficult to smooth over the background noise without a very distinct and jarring repetition (like when a digital audio file glitches).
I was, however, able to fix the problem with the “insane” line and think that portion of the scene sounds pretty good now.
To my eyes, the colors look beautiful, but if NeverarGreat desires to try to tweak them further, I will use whatever is deemed best.

Here’s how the scene looks once it’s fully baked into the rest of my timeline. I recreated the wipes to and from the ships flying by because I slightly retimed the fade of the music to match, and so I could use the original sound effects of the ships which would be jarring to lose. I think NeverarGreat’s recoloring of the deleted scene itself blends more smoothly into the rest of the film, so I’ve used that.
I am certain these are issues with the source material itself, but Leia’s line about taking action against the First Order sounds as if it were cobbled together. And it sounds like she is doing a Rick belch as she says the word “insane.” I don’t remember noticing these before, though I probably haven’t done such a close examination. Not big deals.

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

What do you people want, dead ghosts that lie motionless on the ground?

Anakin appears as himself as he should have been by that point in his life. His redemption carries through to the Force-afterlife. When he was redeemed and lay dying in Luke’s arms, he was Anakin again, and Vader was no more. To paste Hayden onto Anakin’s ghost is to truly divorce yourself from the story you told in 1983. That’s the whole point of Anakin’s story in ROTJ: he did NOT die when Vader arose in the pre-ANH era, he is alive and he came through at the end. Anakin’s ghost therefore appears, as do Obi-Wan’s and Yoda’s, at the age he died.
It’s amazing to me how people struggle with the redemption plot of ROTJ, which is my favorite aspect to any of the films. (Though ROTJ isn’t my favorite overall.)

I agree in regards to this particular project that these things ought to be left alone, but do sincerely look forward to checking out NeverarGreat’s edit too.
I know all this FX work must be a gob and a half, but once I’ve got the crawl, Maz’s castle, and Leia deleted scene we can hopefully have this thing up ahead of TLJ’s release.
(Oooooh, that’s right, the new trailer should be later today!)
