@JarJar, can you try this one? The new one isn’t bad, but I think that initial line misses that Leia only trained briefly.

Seems like maybe keeping the length of her training completely in the dark is maybe the cleanest solution.

I like this the best out of what we have so far, I think. It’s vague enough but hints at the political stuff. I would like to allude to her political involvement as a reason, but avoiding saying it was the last night of her training helps it feel less weird for this to make her quit.

What an embarrassment of riches with this AI voice.

I squeezed ChatGPT for details about Leia’s psyche if we assume that Bloodlines is gospel and TROS is suspect, and this is what it turned out. Wonder if this can help sharpen the phrasing during the flashback:

Wow, what a ton of stuff has happened in this thread during the daytime! First off, do not worry about breaking ground on V4. This is worthwhile stuff that merits it!

Let me interject my thoughts on the big pieces of the day.

Luke. I don’t imagine adding Luke’s voice in other sequences than Ach-To feeling right, and that clip of him speaking to Ben about healing Rey sounded to me like Luke was sternly saying, “Ben, kill yourself.” But, it’s exciting to have a quality Luke AI voice to use. I wanna target its use to just things that were already existing problems or goals. For the conversation with Rey next to the burning TIE fighter on Ach-To, I’d be happy with simply having the phrase “final lesson.” To me, interjecting something about Leia for Rey to react to with “wow, she still trained me though” feels weird. Makes it seem very elementary of a problem, like Rey is shocked that Leia was aware that she was having a hard time with self-confidence. The ‘Rey Nobody’ version may simply need this to be the case, but for the main ‘Rey Palpatine’ version I think it’d probably be better to omit that bit. For the Leia training flashback, Leia’s face displays some emotion so I don’t think it would fit to just say she decided to go with her political career; there should be something there but I’m not sure what.

That is strikingly better than what’s in V3.

The silver lining here for me is that none of these things affect A/V sync.

I’ve avoided anything other than whole numbers to describe updates so far, so I will just refer to it as V4, even if it’s small. This project out of all of them is most deserving of getting it right.

EDIT: Meaning getting the AI voices right, not the Version number.

Just put out a V6 update to ESB, intended as final for the foreseeable future. It’s nothing dramatic, just tweaking the new Boba Fett dialogue slightly, reverting to the SE version of the Cloud City balcony shot, and using Adywan’s addition of the bunk on the Falcon seen in TFA.

That’s ESB and ROTJ nailed down to where I am very happy with them. Now, whenever TMWNN finishes his 2011/2020 hybrid ANH source material, I can quickly and easily update ANH as well.

Not entirely, no. But even if it literally were, if audio changes are controversial an alternate track solves the problem nicely.

I wouldn’t say it’s too late. Just depends on if it ends up being substantially improved. The biggest opportunity is Poe’s briefing lines.

Wish I’d have thought of doing an alternate audio track without all but the necessary AI lines. I mean, of course I still could, but I’ll sit on that for the moment.

Technically retconned so Rey has it as well meaning it debuted with her, to explain her vision as she touched the lightsaber in The Force Awakens.

To me that feels like a random vision rather than a new power, and it’s never used again or talked about. Then again a bunch of stuff in TFA was never brought up later so who knows.

Well, Rey senses the dark history of Ochi’s dagger when she discovers it in TROS as well.
