I’d believe it was done in reshoots, similarly to Anakin’s change in motivation toward the dark side in ROTS. In that one it was pretty easy to tell almost shot by shot whether you were looking at reshot material or not.
Yeah it works really well. I’ve got it patched up and “final” in my timeline. I can always go over again and try to improve the audio, but it’s in there ready to go. The weakest point is removing the music from the transition into Chewie being seen, replacing the blast door sound effect and fading into the scene’s audio.
Hehehehe… boy. The audio files I had prepared for this for months do not take advantage of the the improvements to the Sarlacc sequence I did for an update to the OOT-synced 1997 SE audio project. The shot where Luke stares down the Sarlacc from the plank has the wrong sound.
I only put out the 1080p version so far, so I’ll pull it until I can correct and reupload.
Yeah it does. I didn’t feel it was worth the shifting of sources in order to remove since the difference is much more noticeable than jumping between 2011 and 2004.

ROTJ should be appearing real soon in the usual places. The BR quality one is uploading now, and the others are being encoded. There’s no Sarlacc tentacles, though there will hopefully be a V2 someday with that. But in case that never happens, and so that no one has to wait, V1 is upon us.
That shot… it’s amazing to me that something like that can be cooked up in an evening or two.
See above comment. TIEs if that era are explicitly stated in ANH not to have hyperdrives, whereas a shuttle is seen using hyperdrive in ROTJ.
Looking great! It’s such a short, dynamic shot, but you’re pouring such care into it.
I won’t speak for the one who renders the crawl, hopefully Ridley, but I’m sure someone can render out an alternate for use with a non-Mustafar edit. Maybe it can just be worded so it doesn’t matter either way. If Mustafar is gonna be there I’d like for first-time-me to know what I’m looking at.
And that’s a good point so I will avoid referring to a galactic censorship in the crawl. I’d hope to mention Leia in some way, if not Rey. Alluding to her sensing Palpatine could feasibly work. Maybe I can take a new pass at it later today. And the opening sentence needs to be perfect.

Just popped into the thread. I once tried to find a way to recolor AOTC background Jedi sabers, so its nice to see that brought about!
Good work! Are there any lightning sounds from elsewhere in the movie relatively free of music? Even if you leave what you’ve got more or less, mixing in a few ‘authentic’ lightning sounds might help sell it.
Also, when you do have it how you like it, would you mind maybe posting a version without added music, to let others experiment with that aspect alone?
And it sounds like it’d be very doable to remove explicit mention of the underbelly cannons as being world killers, if Kijimi is to be spared. They’ll still be seen, but who knows what Cos has been up to over the years. The visual is silly but it makes sense: omg big guns.

Yeah, this thread added 25 pages in the last week alone. It’s all I can do to just track everything! Good problem to have.
I have no love for the lightspeed skipping scene, and to me it’s more flippant than the SKB magical galactic death beam. I know I’m a geek weirdo and people shouldn’t care about this, but to me it’s sooo bad.
To me, seeing the TIEs follow the Falcon into hyperspace is enough to allow for a later lightspeed skipping reference to spark imagination about other things Poe had to do to shake the pursuers. Even seeing TIEs with technology last scene only on capital ships doesn’t feel right.
Ideally the mention of lightspeed skipping could be elegantly removed without losing the earlier or later portions of the scene. Ending the iceberg escape scene with the falcon entering hyperspace without TIEs would be ideal, save for effects or holes left later on.

There are so many great ideas on the thread that would contribute to many great edits that I would love to watch… do I personally like the Mustafar sequence… yeah. But I would be super interested in seeing edits where Kylo drops out of hyperspace and goes straight to Palpatine… that after-crawl pan that poppa did was pretty sweet and did feel like Star Wars.

You could probably replace every mention of ‘Palpatine’ in TROS with ‘Sheev.’

I… all these points make sense and are valid. I never had a problem with Mustafar personally at all, so for lack of anything to push me over the edge I’d like to keep the structure as it is. Nothing else feels totally right, at least based off our finished product source material. I do like getting a “Find me” at the end to lessen the necessity of spelling out Papa Sheev Cos “Frank” Palpatine in the crawl.
If there’s a good establishing shot that doesn’t hurt anything, fair enough. But removing Mustafar AND the chess leaves too little breathing room.
And hey, if this project turns out like TFA:R, TLJ:L, and others, it can be used as a launchpad for other projects to go in other directions. I’m more than okay with that.
No one will be totally happy with it. Not even me!
I plan to follow Dominic’s lead for the two visions, with the latter being part of the helmet forging scenes.

Yeah, I don’t want to add another transport. If we can see it, shouldn’t they? And we’re moving the Chewie reveal to later, so there’s less of a reason to want to show it.
