I like the idea of 3PO basically asking for his memory back from R2. Nice idea!
I like the idea of 3PO basically asking for his memory back from R2. Nice idea!
I think that’s the ‘canon’ idea now anyway, that his prequel memories returned as well. I like this idea, and hopefully we can make it blend.
What’s the source of the dialogue? Sounds familiar but I can’t place it.
I’m not sure what “Padme’s very first mission” would be, though. First mission of the Clone Wars? Is there even some specific dialogue like “I am going with Mistress Padme to the ___ system” or something to reference TCW?
Whoa!
2:45
The whole gag is a good 15 seconds. The thing farts and howls about it. We need to get that into 4K and back into the movie. All theatrical otherwise.
In all seriousness, I miss my ooooold TPM edit sourced from DVD, where I could mix and match from all the extended podrace bits. Couldn’t really do that while working with the BluRay since it’s so different.
Thank you for sharing this knowledge. I’m actually really surprised a shorter version of this gag exists, since I’ve only seen TPM on VHS. Was it cut down for the DVD release or the later BLuray release?
It was never changed within the film itself. What that link shows is the bonus extended podrace sequence.
jonh, how about you call in as “the Phantom four” or “Spectre four” or some synonym for ghost?
Or “Jedi Haircut” lol
I’ve posted the prores files for Option A and Option E to my Master Clips folder!
I toned down the lens flare, and made a couple more small tweaks. I still recommend Option E, because I think the scale and speed is the most correct for the camera lens/perspective. The Vimeo links are also downloadable so you can just select “original” to grab the prores.
Thanks to everyone for the amazing and helpful feedback! It’s always better when we collaborate!
Edit: Hal, that new 3PO works real well!
I can’t seem to figure out how to download. 😕
Yeah but 3PO moves his head like he’s talking so I’ll probably leave it alone.
Anything you guys care to send in I’d be happy to massage in. Obviously some clips must be lower volume than others but I’d hope to include at least something from everyone who sends something in. So if you only sent a “For Skywalker” before, feel free to send something else and a check-in.
I’ll let axlanian continue mixing, but I’ll just add any further submissions over top myself.
The Falcon shot is marvelous. The end scene will be really cool: chess scene, alternate take of Rey’s line with FX to match, new music lead-out, and the Falcon leaving Tatooine.
I haven’t read anything recent on this thread, but here’s a clip of a replaced 3PO line with some help from Chase. The audio used wasn’t clean but I think it blends into this context reasonably well.
I think having someone else do 9 would’ve alleviated that. As it turned out, it feels like a well-executed but shallow opening, an interesting shake-up with the power of myth, then a return with a vengeance to shallow that tries to sidestep the meat of the trilogy.
If you like JJ better, RJ’s chapter is gonna stand out as the spoiled meat in the sandwhich. And if you like RJ, JJ seems like he slapped pop tarts on either side of roast beef.
JEDIT:
JJ’s plan was probably crap and Rian realized that it was crap.
lol, indeed.
Pedantic point, and I only speak English, but shouldn’t it be “Echoes of the Past”?
Add lens flares to the bonus documentary whenever JJ is in frame.
I don’t think JJ Abrams reads enough Campbell. Despite what Darth Maul what’s-his-face recently said about Rian Johnson not doing his Star Wars homework, I think the sentiment is much more appropriately directed toward JJ in relation to Star Wars’ makeup.

Yeah, I was thinking about sneaking in a not-audible “I’m naked! heehahawwhaw” 😃
Copy that, Red Rooster.
And yeah, despite it being the original idea, reducing “For Skywalker” to just a couple voices is probably for the best. It might be better to even tone down the alien battle cries about Skywalker somewhat at the end.
And I can’t tell, did you maybe shift around the last check-in before we go to Lando? As it is in that clip it sounds like, and very well may be, the same female voice saying two things in close proximity. I think what was there before sounded more like a phone recording and was a markedly different voice. (I’m using my work computer’s speakers though, so I could be wrong.)
(Gotta go, can’t let the man know what’s up!)
From Google Drive? It should download it just as the files, or maybe as one zip file. Try extracting the first zip file and see if they all unzip into one folder with the contents.
And I’m sorry, but I don’t know why your player is having trouble interpreting how to display them. Maybe those two lines of pixels are enough to make it think it needs to stretch to fill? I don’t know. 😕
jonh, I want you to send me some audio. You need to be included in this. It can just be a simple “Ship or crew or person name standing by”. If it weren’t already a ship name with crew to recognize I’d say “the Ghost” would have been perfect.
Poppasketti, FWIW (and I’m afraid the finer details may elude me), I like Option A’s trajectory and lightspeed jump but E’s little boost of the engines partway through. But I’m happy with whatever consensus emerges about the shot. Both are incredible.
Thanks to all with the audio submissions and getting appropriate effects onto them. We’re taking a liberty to expand them to the left and right channels rather than just the center. I like axlanian’s, as he kept my line placements more or less. Personally I don’t want to open with a prominent “9000 crew standing by”, not only because it’s my voice but because it’s a little too meta. So the line is there but it’s a bit buried. Could also be confusing, as though the whole informal fleet is being referred to as the ‘9000 Crew.’
So, the “For Skywalker” line had to be pruned, so further submissions should be check-in’s or other chatter.
And since it came up in Dom’s thread, in my head the primary version of this project will retain Rey Palpatine. This will be the conservative style that has served me well. But, I plan to release a Rey Nobody edit, perhaps at a later time, once that idea is completed by whomever, with an eye toward Dom’s project.
Subtitles for a mute, invisible character that none of the other characters know is there. He introduces himself as such in the first scene of TPM, and dies of an invisible head explosion during the final scene of TROS, which is explained by a second character who comments on this and then explains how he was also there the whole time but didn’t choose to speak.
Lando pulls a Holdo maneuver into the last Destroyer while letting out a gluttonous laugh.
Most of the links don’t seem to work, and the Mustafar link takes me to the final scene.
Hmm, I don’t remember but they should’ve been encoded the same way. I don’t know…
Lando lead around a death squad to take down all the Star Destroyers in the galaxy afterwards.
Wait, are you saying the image is stretched? Might be an issue with your player.
Yeah the encoder didn’t include the empty black areas to bring it to 2.35:1. So technically it isn’t 720p, sure. But that sounds like you haven’t done anything wrong.
Well, no, I’ll still check it out!
For the moment, I don’t think it’s needed to reshuffle the end shots about the sunset. It’s just a different angle.
And while I think there’s potential in restructuring Ben’s death, I don’t see myself going that way.
