Could the boom moment from TLJ lend another source for a blowed up star destroyer?
Could the boom moment from TLJ lend another source for a blowed up star destroyer?
I think I noticed Aurora Borealis in Hal’s kitchen…
At this time of day?
Good… good!
And what might you be referring to Hal?
Discussion about other planets. Corellia would be a good choice, I’ll admit.
Sure and that’s cool! I’m just saying I wouldn’t mind those things being done officially even, but I’d probably only be interested in most of them as experiments.
Ahem
When Kylo finds the Wayfinder on Mustafar, the Emperor can be heard saying “The Mustafar system…
Hehehehehahahahahahw!”
Good… good!
Well, I added some steam back into the scene from the steamed clams I’m having. (Mmmmmm, steamed clams!)
Also, the Leia and Snap scene is absolutely better for breaking up the underground sequence in order to remove talk of the secret.
We certainly don’t need a fourth planet. Kijimi would be the best possible one to use, but there’s very little footage.
I’d love to see the whole category of things like that, just not as a permanent replacement to the originals.
Hmm, it would seem like a weird choice to pick something esoteric. And it’s okay as is, just raising the possibility.
I guess there were some steam effects in the center channel so I’ll revisit it!
You’re always so cryptic and mysterious.
Seems worth at least tossing the idea out there of adding a fourth planet to the destroyer montage. There’s enough room for it in order to preserve the music.
Eehhhhhh???
Excellent idea, let me take a look when I can!
A new workprint is on its way up. I’m pretty sure there’s nothing that hasn’t been discussed in here, but it’ll be a better watch for anyone who hasn’t seen it.
Lol omg I started one of these threads
I’ll say it again, I would’ve liked a reflection and meditation on how to rebuild Germany and reconcile the population while purging the bad after WWII and dealing with the shadow Hitler left. What I got was the return of mecha-zombie-Hitler decades later to destroy the world as revenge.
Post a meal for each Star Wars movie. Maybe include an entree, a side or two, a drink and desert. Can be related in whatever ways you like. Maybe puns, similarity to food or other things within the movie, mood match, subjective stuff, personal associations, etc.
Grab a Bib Fortuna and dig in.
RogueLeader, I like that a lot but I don’t think it’s going to be totally convincing and natural with what we’re stuck with.
Krausfadr, that’s certainly an intriguing idea, but sort of the same. I don’t imagine that really working gangbusters. They really should have FILMED something like that, though. Ugh.
Since it might take a little work to mask out the windows and such, perhaps Coruscant could just be added to the shot of the Knights’ flying toward the Star Destroyer. Maybe Coruscant could be added to the bottom of the screen, similar to how poppa replaced Endor in that one shot of the Falcon flying toward Kef Bir.
IMO, I think if you leave out the transports landing, but go straight to the interior shot of the stormtroopers disembarking and then charging into battle, it looks good. I also think muting the Battlefront footage would help, if you were to keep it in.
Strongly agree here. Not that I’m a big fan of the Battlefront stuff, but the landing is the worst part due to the odd speed and camera angle, and there shouldn’t be any voices when they leave so that it flows a bit better into Kylo’s reveal.
I threw together a SUPER rough cut in the default Windows editor of how this would look.
I like the battlefront footage, but I don’t want to throw half the viewing audience. The people that I showed this to that I know in real life were themselves split along the lines of people who play video games and people who don’t. I don’t know what it is about that footage, but if it is going to be drawing to a number of people I’d prefer not to include it in the very first scene. Just having the one shot of the TIEs added works better than I imagined it would. So I’m happy for the TIE fighters to show up, have a drum solo for a minute, and then proceed with the movie.
What is left to do for v1?
Not a great deal. You can look at the first post and see what does not have a check mark next to it. Most of what remains at this point are things needed from other people that are still being worked on. Also, since I’m crazy busy and have a full schedule all the time, I’m hoping we can give this thing a good gestation period in order to avoid doing a V2. Even if that means putting out a serious workprint with good specs, just not doing subtitles and commentary and all that other stuff.
I don’t know if anybody has suggested this yet, but I have an idea for extra footage that could potentially be put in to smoothen the pacing. When rey and the others escape pasaana in Ochi’s ship, the next time we see the falcon it’s being flown to the first orders Star destroyer, and ren talks to the emperor. There is a deleted scene from the force awakens where kylo is in the falcon searching it, and he goes up to the pilot seat, clearly thinking about his dad. Since the falcons abandoned on pasaana, we could add this scene in so kylo is the one who flies the falcon back, and he hears voices of his dad/mom when he is in the falcon. This could be done with some vfx on his helmet to make the red cracks on it, and some color correction so it looks like pasaana when he is in the cockpit.
That’s a really interesting idea. I wonder if his TFA outfit would be too much of an issue, though. The helmet is missing the red cracks, sure, but his cloak in TFA is completely different as well, and there’s also a potential continuity issue of him not wearing his helmet in the previous Pasaana scenes.
There are snowtroopers in the scene too, which would severely limit the available shots or require even more intense special effects editing.
+1
It was recently confirmed by (Lucasfilm art manager) Phil Szostack that the scene was filmed and finished but was cut for time.
I did want to ask, because I honestly cannot tell, was my voice in the sampler? Just find it funny that I can’t even tell if my own voice is there after the effects. Lol (And if so, I’m frankly glad it didn’t make it to the finalists!)
You were, you even got some votes! I didn’t put the full vote count because I worried some might be a little embarrassed if they didn’t get any votes, but I can post a sheet of who was who for each Knight if you’re curious
Nah, I was just amused at really not being able to tell!
Yeah, I’ve come to agree more strongly, too. If I hadn’t already committed to putting out a Rey Nobody version of Ascendant I would cite those points.
I would much rather they have stuck with Rey Nobody, and they could certainly have written something compelling from that point. But, I don’t think fan editing that point back in results in a better TROS in and of itself. But it’s ambiguous, so I’ll be glad to just swap out scenes and chunks for an alternate version!
What is the best source for the Palpatine message, shitty video game footage captured by some guy?
“Skywalker is dead, the Republic, Destroyed. The work of generations is complete. The day of revenge is at hand, the day of the Sith. Send the fleet across all the galaxy, let it burn. The Final Order begins.”
“Yes my lord”
It raises the steaks from “a world they know” to the entire galaxy. It also ties everything in the past two films into a neat knot.
Now Poe’s dialogue makes more sense in response to this. “so Palpatine has been out there all this time, pulling the strings”
That’s very nice. It will likely be quite a while before I’d be able to sit down and assemble that myself, but hopefully applying a uniform radio effect will make it all cohere. Where would “across” come from?
If anyone would like to get that audio together, though, please feel free. I think that’d be a solid opening to the scene. 😃
I’ve mocked up about every possible combination of the footage already. See my Vimeo channel (?) from that link to see the others. I didn’t put passwords on them.
