No, I don’t think so. It’s fine.
No, I don’t think so. It’s fine.
Yeah, poppasketti, that’s wonderful as is. My idea for perfection is that the second that they see the Falcon jump to lightspeed, they immediately turn about in order to head back to the Destroyer they presumably came from in order to quickly move or take further action from there. It’s like, “Shit, immediately head back because we’re done here and time may be of the essence.”
That would certainly make sense, but there’s only really opportunity to get across a concise message. I was hoping to tie this movement in with what Luke did in the last movie. Partly to explain the big difference between no one showing up and everyone showing up this time.
It would’ve been interesting if they did that at Finn’s behest, though it really doesn’t look like they’re being stunned in that clip.
Are there any other shots from the trailers and documentary that you’d like to add in, Hal?
I don’t think so, other than what Dom plans to send.
I think part of it is just that a stormtrooper is saying the line, and not one of our heroes.
This might be it, I’m not quite sure yet. I’ll come up with a few dialogue options and send them to Hal.
👍
Why did Hux’s “I’m the spy.” line get removed in WP V3? Poe and Finn’s reactions feel kinda jarring without the line.
The next new stormtrooper voice line sounds like it was obviously added in. I think the audio there could maybe use a little reworking or maybe a better filter.
Agree with both of these.
Yeah, me too. Axlanian, do you think you could make a regular voice recording sound like a FO trooper?
VNC to the rescue. Here’s what I have at present.
I hope I can send you that tomorrow, but I’m in for a super dense day. You need it for a timing reference, right?
YES, that’s what we neeeeed. If anything I’d have them peel off sooner. I’ll be happy to put together audio for it. I’ve got the original 5.1 mix for reference of how it should sound coming into frame.
Also, I think I made the removal of Babu from the battle feel much better audio-wise!
Nice, snooker! 😃
And, poppasketti, that’s already preferable to what I have, assuming the music won’t be an insurmountable issue for me. But I agree, a more dramatic, sudden set of twists away from their trajectory would make for a more unmistakable read.
Would it be possible for them to abruptly break apart, sort of like how a TIE in TFA breaks from chasing POE right after he enters the rip in the thermal oscillator? Like there’s no point going straight anymore since their prey is totally gone?
Hmmmmm… it still feels weird to refer to jumping to lightspeed right after physically bursting through a barrier as ‘lightspeed skipping.’
If poppasketti wishes to share the clip, he showed me something he did to show the TIEs continue along their trajectory without jumping to lightspeed. However, that would fit into an Option A scenario.
Option A) The company breaks through the ice wall and enters hyperspace, ending the scene. TIEs may or may not be seen following, though they do not enter hyperspace. Then, when they arrive at base, reference to lightspeed skipping is removed. Rey and Poe start to argue in medium closeups while Finn presumably walks toward them, asks them to calm down, and they proceed to talk about the spy.
Option B) The company breaks through the ice wall and enters hyperspace, followed into hyperspace by TIEs like one second later, ending the scene. Then, when they arrive at base, they refer to “lightspeed skipping,” evidently something Poe must have done to evade the TIEs offscreen. Rey and Finn hug, Finn uses sarcasm, etc.
I like Option A for restoring a sense of, well, SENSE to how hyperspace works. TLJ doesn’t seem to leave room for TIEs that can instantly chase the Falcon into hyperspace one second later. Even if Option B were what was put into theaters, I still would probably have fan edited Option A into existence, honestly.
However, Option B is still way better than the theatrical. So, I’ll take it if it is needed to sell the removal of the main lightspeed skipping sequence.
Or arguably our unhealthy obsession. 😅
+9000
There’s no time to replace “ghouls” with anything longer.
Also, we figured no one would see Klaud in that shot unless you already knew he was there.
I’ll take another listen to those things. With removing Babu, is it the score being interrupted, or the transition itself?
Also, anyone want to add the planet Coruscant to the establishing shot of the roundtable scene? It can be as close or distant as is workable, perhaps distant enough to recognize its wholistic appearance and make sense not to appear in the window later. Snooker?
Hasn’t ever been an issue before.
Lol “ice speed”
Thinking ahead, how might we do a group commentary track? Through Zoom? We could stream the movie through there and each maintain our own recordings of our own voices, to be edited together later.
We could either make it a real party or just have 3-5 commentators. As long as sync isn’t an issue a party would be okay, but I would be a little concerned about sync.
To have them mention lightspeed skipping to me goes better with the TIEs chasing them into hyperspace. What we saw Poe do with the ice wall doesn’t seem to fit that description.
Gotta lose the voiceover. Sounds like Schmi doesn’t want her son having sex
I love the idea, but the effect would need to be erased and totally redone, and explosive contacts removed. 😕
Yes, that would absolutely have been plan A for me if it were really possible. The TIEs just veer off course because the chase is over.
I can certainly play with it, but the color correction will be the last part of the pipeline, once the edit is ‘locked.’ I could imagine maybe using this as well as the regular LUT, meeting someplace between.
Well put, and that’s basically my take on it. I like the TIEs NOT following them into hyperspace, making a clean getaway. But I’m okay with it if it helps make for a more clean and effective removal of the skipping sequence itself.
It treated hyperspace as straight-up teleportation. Felt like HGTTG.
