Yeah, I don’t there’s a way around the GPS coordinates aspect of the dagger. And that’s okay. I’d wager that sampling 3PO’s Sith-eye voice would yield an AI voice capable of carrying a modified phrase or two though.

Just some sort of clue wedged in there that it guides its Force-sensitive bearer based on the dark side somehow.

And I like that new 3PO line idea! “I do believe I am some sort of… spy.” Perfect.

Here, Nev, here is that scene with 5.1 audio. It’s a first attempt, and so if you have feedback and are interested in making it better, let me know. The sync is not identical to the clip you provided, so you are aware.
The mov file is for use in editing, and the mkv is more suitable for straightforward viewing.

Here are my thoughts, ideas, and wonderings about V5 at this point.

  • Mute a few lines right after the swirling Knights of Ren photoshoot, just to let things breathe a moment

  • Including Rey reacting to Leia having known her dark heritage secret, but using a new line to imply she learned or sensed this sometime after TLJ

  • Anything else we can do about the dagger? And I wonder about reinstating it being depicted as her parents’ murder weapon; it was removed to allow for greater clarity that it can mystically reveal directions to the wayfinder.

  • Anyone else feel 3PO’s line “Terrible job, sir” was out of character? Wonder about maybe changing it to something like “Excellent job sir” … “Nobody’s perfect” or something. (Probably not.)

  • 3PO has one or two lines too many after the heroes fall underground. I’ll mute at least his last one of “we might still be.”

  • New lines for Zorri Bliss to give Poe backstory of having worked undercover, and to contextualize the fighting on Kijimi as related to Luke’s inspiration

  • And when arriving on Kijimi, I’d ideally like to replace some of the ‘Star Wars reference’ stormtrooper lines with lines that support the above recontextualization of the violence in the streets

  • Any ideas for the short exchange between the stormtroopers and 3PO?

Hal, what is your workflow like since this edit has two branches; Rey nobody and the main edit? Are they two separate projects in your editor and you copy and paste changes from the main timeline to the Rey Nobody project?

Just curious. Thanks for all your hard work!

I’ll duplicate (copy and paste) the main timeline and then implement the Nobody pieces.

And yeah, the AI voices have compelled further work after I felt settled with V2 because the tech solved problems we didn’t think we could.

Sorta sounds like he’s got a big ego on ‘im.

If I had to make a call on the wording right this minute and live with it, I’d go with “Leia learned the truth after my passing.” Doesn’t explicitly comment on Luke’s own knowledge and leaves it open, though implies she learned it from Luke and preventing the misunderstanding that she knew during the prior movies.

And I think I’ve come around on Poe as undercover cop. Zorri does tell him “He’s not stupid enough to come back here.”

So… there likely will be a V5 at some point. It’d be silly to be hasty about it, though. I imagine waiting until all the Rey Nobody pieces are finished to Dom’s satisfaction and then release a final version of both at once.

The analytic part of my brain would feel better having that partitioned off, though, lol.

You’re right it’s not necessarily the case but I just want to put up the bowling bumpers around that for the audience. Something that says she learned or discovered the truth would be enough, not merely that she knew. Because that leaves it open to maybe she knew from the moment she first saw her.

“I did a postmortem reconnaissance mission and dropped a shitton of military intel on her, and told her about your grandpappy.”

I’ve been thinking about Leia and the conversation on Ach-To since it was brought up here recently. It really would be good to have some mention of Leia somehow, because the scene barrels right into a Leia-centric conversation. And the film honestly does work better (in a vacuum) when Leia is aware of Rey’s heritage throughout. What I don’t like is the implication that Leia and/or Luke knew during the events of TFA/TLJ. Asking the audience to watch those stories again and try believe that is a bridge too far.

What if we simply replaced “Leia knew it too” with “Leia learned the truth after my passing”? That way it doesn’t state Luke told her, but it’s implied.

It seems a bit backwards to massage the film to mesh with prior EU material since EU material will already bear that out in time as it does. If we say Poe left to join the Republic, even if that helps things that have been published so far surely it’ll come into conflict with future EU material.

Nothing wrong with making the change because you prefer it that way, but current EU seems like an unusual motivation.

JJB, you’re suggesting that we depict Poe as never having actually been a spice runner but doing so only undercover, and so he’d be taking our main characters back to a group he was working to betray all along? Seems foolhardy, even for him. I do like the Skywalker line, to contextualize what we are seeing going on there and add to that thread we tried to build up.

Certainly not going to promise a V5, but I will note these alternate lines for the moment, as well as Nev’s idea to mute lines for that shot.

It does seem like Rey and Kylo have a much larger reaction to Leia sensing/resolving what to do than they do when she actually does die. Kylo in particular when he stares off into space after collapsing, dejected; seems like he’s maybe just feeling that way because he himself is about to die.

Also the music repeats itself once, so I might see if there’s another cue to sub in that works.

Not sure the idea 100% works, but I’ll enjoy recreating the audio to the best of my ability when I get the chance to!
