Nice! I share your fond memories for this series.
Nice! I share your fond memories for this series.
Here is the laundry list for V4, what stands out as incomplete or undecided:
Undecided on whether it is better to use the Jedi healing illustration, which sacrifices the foreshadowing of the Wayfinder, or to allow her verbal reference to the texts be enough (not to worry, I know at least one other editor wants this illustration in their version, so it wouldn’t be a total waste!)
I still need the AI lines for Jannah, either on their own or the audio for the entire edited scene
It’s not too late to try replacing “lightspeed ramming” with someone else, but I’m okay with what is there
That’s a short list, guys!
Could we get a version without letterboxing encoded into the video? I have an ultrawide monitor and it looks like this.
There is. Only the large 1080p version is encoded that way, and it’s in order to be BluRay-compatible.
I’d like to take a gander as well.
Other than “memmber berries” I can’t see why this show would be exciting to the average viewer…or any fan who was wanting something that stands on its own. People are crying over Hayden showing up,.flashing into Vader or just SEEING Thrawn. What else is being highlighted? Where’s the story that had to be told? Fans are declaring it the best thing ever just because they saw Hayden in Clone Wars armor. THAT gets a 10/10??? Like…even if he didn’t say anything all that important or really serve a necessary purpose for being there…it automatically gets high praise?
That’s more or less my impression so far. It’s been a slog for me. Sabine reads as a real moron rivaling Bail Organa, and the titular heroine feels stiff and boring. It was nice to see Hayden, but it doesn’t impress me in and of itself. If it had been a 15 minute special with just those snippets I think they’d be just as effective and enjoyable as they are in their context as part of this story.
I wish you had been there to get this into the sriptwriters’ heads because it’s totally plausible without massively restructuring the movie!
I do agree it’s rather ambitious to have it come across seamlessly with what we have to work with. There might be a couple of those ideas that could be implemented to just give a slight implication of a larger effect for Finn. Even what we’ve got already for Jannah helps a lot already.
I would say the line from the “I like it” lady about there being more defectors would be nice, except… it just doesn’t mesh with the joyous slaughter of stormtroopers that happens throughout the movie. Or, maybe we could couch that within Finn’s line, “I didn’t know there were others.” As though his next line should be, “Oh, shit!”
If there were a scene of Finn sending out a message to inspire troopers to rise up, I’d buy a line about it happening all over the galaxy. But if all we can do is change the line of dialogue, I’m afraid it’d be a bridge too far.
Hmm, it’s an interesting idea, but might be clumsy. We would’ve griped about this if the movie did this.
EDIT: You just added it too, the lightspeed ramming thing.
EDIT: Replace Finn’s offscreen line to Poe about people rising up all over the galaxy with him saying, “Poe, I just lead a stormtrooper rebellion via hologram all over the galaxy. It was epic.”
Recreate the opening crawl of all the movies in order to add an additional space between all sentences.
As soon as Ezra was on screen for ten seconds, it was the least annoying ten seconds I’ve ever had with him.
Also, I think the cost of changing the name of the fleet would be too high. I had a lotta problems with TROS while walking out of the theater, but the name of the fleet wasn’t one of them.
If anything, our version of things which renders it as a modified Imperial stockpile contingency plan actually fits the name “The Final Order” better.
About using the new healing illustration and AI line about Rey gleaning it from the texts. It’s nice to involve the texts from TLJ in the story and show she’s been studying.
And as an added bonus which isn’t necessary but doesn’t hurt anything, if a saga-only viewer wants to have a headcanon about this ability having been lost, they can. But it would not introduce anything to suggest that this was the case, either. After all, Ben seems to know how to do it no-problem. Unless the head-canon-er wants to interpret it as him having learned about it via receiving it.
So it may introduce some slight confusion in that way.
I’d say the shot of the Jedi texts is allowed to tell us one single thing, not multiple. The crackly saber needs no overt explanation other than perhaps a reminder that it was broken in the prior movie.
I’m with Dominic on this. Neither force healing or the wayfinder really need to be shown in the texts at that point, anyway. With the healing illustration we get something new, and she doesn’t need to see Kylo using the wayfinder. Maybe a quarter-second flash of one wouldn’t hurt to toss in, but it’s unnecessary. It already seemed silly to me in the theater that Rey burned down the TIE only for Luke to point out, “hey be careful, there might be stuff in there that you need.” Also that Kylo must have transferred the wayfinder after Rey destroyed the first TIE on Pasaana.
Not that you need me to say so, but use any and everything you want from LOE. I’d love nothing more than to say “hey if you want Padme dead look at octorox.”
Ascendant throws the reveal to Rey about them becoming ‘one’ as being a revelation to the audience. So it’s not like there’s a big “duh-DUN” waiting for us on Exegol.
Yeah, I’m inclined to agree with Burbin. And not just because the audio would be a pain to work with. 😃
The problem would be visual I think, not one of audio.
I think that’d be more awkward. Almost certain I’d tried it even.
I agree but you’d have to have a super brief cutaway to Finn between the two lines or have Chewbacca give a delayed reaction, to the name rather than the substance.
Yeah, I’d considered if this shot could help in the past and it didn’t seem to. I think it’s fine to have them show up, since we see them snooping a little before they jump out. The worst thing is the sort of sudden transition from the Viceroy landing and being told they have the queen to her being marched out of the palace.
Here’s the Poe briefing as it stands. It’s a big improvement over V3:

Problem there is we’d go from pan up establishing shot of the palace to either a wipe or a cut to panning down from the palace to the queen being marched out.
Dave Filoni is a terrible storyteller.
I gotta non-angrily agree.
