As an audience member I’d have a lot of questions about why they’d be assigned to raise and kill a child, as that phrasing makes it sounds like a single overall assignment.
And I still have a hard time getting over that Rey’s mother looks just like her.
Too bad to make Rey’s mother barren because she looks a great deal like her.
Also, I don’t get the thing about the New Republic busting a trade. Seems superfluous and needlessly confusing.
Nev, that’s a real nice mock-up for using a bit more of the buffalo with the chess game. I’m not entirely sure I’ll want to use it, as I’ve gotten used to the more striking introduction to these characters with, “T minus five!” But your approach adds a nice little callback aspect to the ending.
And JJB, you raise a titillating point about potentially using two audio tracks, with wildly different plotting for the Rey Palpatine stuff. That’s such a bonkers idea, but I’d be open to it. Moreso than using it straight out. It’ll depend on all the necessary audio being realized but if there’s enthusiasm for it, that seems like a safe way to play it. 😃

This concept seems to make Rey’s father superfluous.
I do like DZ’s wording best so far, for what it’s worth. Again, I’m not sold on this being all-around advisable for this particular project but would still like to see it realized fully if possible.

Here’s a stab at it, then. It might be a bridge too far, making her a direct clone. I mean, I get that an opposite-sex clone is possible and Omega from Bad Batch but it might have raised eyebrows in a general audience without addressing it directly.

I’d like to tool this a bit. Not committing to this direction for Ascendant, but even if we develop it and we don’t use it, I’m sure another project would. It would still be… somewhat friendly to wider canon, hopefully.

I wouldn’t want to include those bits anyway; they fit in their shows but the duel especially wouldn’t be seamless for a few reasons, though I like the scene. I’d rather see it in Kenobi than Ep2.

It sounds like he felt we improved things all around with no damage, but that in the end it’s still something of a mess. I’m okay with that. He’s right about the dialogue but that can’t really be helped much either.

I agree. If there was a good way to replace Poe’s (spoken onscreen with clear lip movements) to something other than, “I don’t know why they aren’t following us but I don’t trust it,” I would happily do so for exactly those reasons, JJB.
By the time the lightspeed skipping sequence ends, the movie has already announced itself to be an annoyingly-paced experience right off the bat. Can’t argue opinions, but mine is that the film is stronger without it, even logic reasons excused.

I really don’t want to add Sith eyes to non-vision Rey, as much as I appreciate and enjoy Nev’s TFA edit.
V5 will likely be further buttoning things up, rather than big overhauls.

No, I think it muddles what’s happening and I don’t think it works fully. I’d also rather have Leia reach out as herself first before we let Han take over the show.

Try the mkv I just added. The mov file is for editing rather than viewing, with six separate mono tracks that together comprise the 5.1.
There are certainly flaws here, so again, if this is something you want to develop further let me know.
