The last part of this thread’s title makes me feel weird.
The last part of this thread’s title makes me feel weird.
Written English in Star Wars would be a little off-brand.
A couple decent hints at Kijimi being a boilerplate like that would dovetail with this edit’s crawl’s opening paragraph. I forget the exact words, but flames of rebellion spreading across the galaxy and needing to merely be united.
I’m all for it!
The shorting out is not a necessity, but seemed to fit in naturally with the added crackle effect conceptually.
The puppet stuff, still looking forward to it!
Kijimi graffiti could be cool, to hint at the pending ‘rise’ of ‘Skywalker’ in the heart of the people, if indeed someone wishes to bring it about. Otherwise, it’s not necessary.
And a “canon” suggestion that in TLJ no one came to help because the First Order left the phone off the hook is dumb as hell. I’m really starting to not care much at all for “canon” surrounding this movie or the ST overall. Death of the “author” is best for those, it seems. (I see this as a separate concern from not going out of my way to make edits inconsistent with books-and-things-like-that to come.)
Poppasketti has the Midas touch. Literally in this case.
I think if we applied Bricks’ Razor we’d whittle our whole change list down to nothing.
If the theatrical had this change, it would at least signal that someone somewhere along the line recognized “oh wait why’s he still got his ship after it blowed up?”
(FWIW, in my prequel edits I retained Qui-Gon saying that Anakin would’ve been identified early in the Republic. So not necessarily 3 years old but the gist is still implied.)
I like it!
And I’m pretty sure on Ach-To the paint is totally burned away by the time we get a look at it.
Y’know, I think I do. That insert shot is pretty short, but…
Let me put it this way: if editing the scene conventionally, I’d absolutely prefer the second. However, with the fan edit-y constrains of just having the shots we have, perhaps not.
Well, we’ll have options if the dub pans out! Great work, sherlock!
Yes, that’s pretty solid! I can’t tell in my head whether the shot of the guy would be better after 3PO’s shot. But otherwise it’s a pretty good version of the scene to use if we go with the 3PO dub.
Just add the Senate camera droid hovering around during Kylo and Luke’s confrontation.
Oh, yes, right. 😉
I liked RogueLeader’s idea of introducing the B portion of Across the Stars to their hand moment in TLJ and then in TROS. But I don’t plan to implement it in my projects. I like the existing music in the scene, and I think it’d be confusing or weird to insert it there and nowhere else.
Then again, ‘Luke and Leia’ as Jannah meets Lando, so…
The dagger wasn’t with her at that point.
Great discussion, guys. I appreciate the back and forth, even though I’m still out of it for now.
We do have the resources to mix together a choppy sentence, “Was I any different when you taught the Jedi Master who taught me?”
Whether it’s a GPS coordinate or knowing to use the knife in a mystical way, it’s still a piece of exposition that they needed 3PO in order to reach. I guess it does soften the impact of his sacrifice in a way not to have something pretty concrete to gain from it, that’s fair. In movie parlance, you’d expect information like that not to be costly, and would arise on its own. Y’know, sort of like how it does in V1 with Rey hearing whispers.
I’ll give it to you, that is something to weigh and consider in assessing this potential alteration.
What’s really lost, though, just that one joke about Babu being 3PO’s oldest friend?
It’s not that the canon story has technical contradictions, it’s just that it’s very counterintuitive to the viewer. I really like the 3PO dub idea in principle, as it elegantly simplifies the dagger thing.
It’s still dumb, and it’s still just macguffin-ception, but at least this way it’s tied into Rey’s character, even if its clunky.
I’m all for anything that allows the audience’s intuition to function without being chloroformed by retcon-heavy canon stuff being hurled in reaction like so much orangutan diarrhea.
I don’t care so much about the immediate canon surrounding TROS, since it’s just antibodies rejecting a transplanted organ. I just don’t want to take radical swipes that would make this edit not at all function with the eventual 12-novel Luke Skywalker series I’ll hopefully get to read.
Right.
Well, it wouldn’t be removed without reason. Babu didn’t hear an “Endor” destination in this version.
I do like V2.
Option 3 seems pretty good to me.
Hi, can you send me a link to your edit? Thanks!
