I like this one. Only two modifications I’d make are removing the bold font of First Order and Resistance. Also, I feel like the last paragraph of the one we currently have is better. Although perhaps we could bold HIDDEN POWER in that one.

Here is the crawl with your suggestions:

Flames of rebellion burn across
the galaxy. Inspired by Luke Skywalker’s
heroic sacrifice, countless systems have
taken a stand in the name of resistance.

To suffocate this growing uprising,
the tyrannical First Order has silenced
all communication between neighboring
systems. Fear is everywhere.

Meanwhile, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren
has traveled to Mustafar, chasing
whispers of a HIDDEN POWER that
would allow him to destroy any
threat to his rule…

If we’re opening up the crawl debate again…

taken a stand in the name of RESISTANCE.

To suffocate this growing uprising,
the tyrannical FIRST ORDER has
silenced all communication between

has traveled to Mustafar, chasing
whispers of an ancient artifact,
that would allow him to destroy any
threat to his rule…

The novelization had his last line be in Rey’s head after he dies: “Noones ever really gone.” Not only is it a nice callback to Luke, but it also explains why Rey suddenly looks happy as she’s flying away in her X-wing.

Too bad he never said that anywhere.

It would be pretty easy to include “Rey, you’re not alone. You’ve become what you were meant to be.” using quotes from the hand touch and throne room scenes in TLJ.

Edit: Although that quote may be better to include in the Jedi voices section.

Anyways… since Dat_SW_Guy appeared to drop his project of extending the ending of the film due to either personal/technical reasons on his end, is this still being considered and/or has someone decided to try working on this?

The scene being the Falcon going into space above Tatooine so the end song can end a little more triumphantly before it cuts to the credits.

Hal, maybe you’re right. But I feel like I recommend against making the mention of “Skywalker” be the thing that causes Rey to look at the kids - she looks at the kids in the first place because they are what she and the Resistance are fighting for.

The movie is called The Rise of Skywalker

The scene immediately afterwards she is asked for her “family name”.

The whole puppet show and surrounding scene is used to help reinforce the ending of the film and actually make Rey’s name change feel earned.

Rey reacting to “Skywalker” helps to show that the spark that will ignite the fire that will burn down the First Order because of Luke’s sacrifice is still alive and it is worth it for her to continue fighting and accept being a Jedi. Because THAT’S what she and the Resistance are fighting for.

But as I stated, the scene with the children establishes a connection with the galaxy in just TRoS (as if it were a standalone movie and not a sequel) and raises the stakes. It’s more personal and thus meaningful than just reinforcing TLJ. The heroes are fighting for the future of the galaxy, which the children symbolize.

But the problem with that statement is that this is a sequel in a very disjointed trilogy, and any connections to help make it feel more connected should be a welcome change.

The stakes are still there. The kids have hope for the future because of Luke’s sacrifice, just like Rey. It’s another reason for Rey to want to fight, to make Luke’s sacrifice worth it.

I’ve mentioned this before, but I don’t really like the idea. I feel it’d take away the original point of the scene: to establish the stakes for the movie, hence Rey looking at the children - the future of the galaxy. Terrio even confirmed this in The Skywalker Legacy documentary. Now, it’d just be another reinforcement of Luke’s return on Crait and how it inspired hope.

Not trying to be rude but it feels like you disagree/argue with every change being considered in this edit. Maybe there is another edit that is more suited to what you would like to see or just stick with the Theatrical Cut.

The issue is, of course, the footage and the music. Only “I am all the Sith!” and the back half of “…scavenger girl is no match for the power in me.” have shots of Palpatine’s face, unfortunately; so one of those has to be his last line - unless you choose to put “you are nothing” over the tension-building silence before Rey speaks.

I think putting “you are nothing” over the silence would be a good idea as Rey would respond more quickly to saying she’s is a Jedi, which I think helps even more to remove the Endgame-ness of it. Are you able to mock that up?

The problem with leaving in “I am all the Sith!” is that Rey’s new “I’m a Jedi!” response has to specifically be to Sheevie’s “a SCAVENGER GIRL is no match for the power in me!” statement, right? (edit: just as the poster above said!) Perhaps swapping Palpatine’s lines would work. Here’s a crude mockup of that idea (forgive the unpolished audio and lack of ghosts).

This is perfection and would be a mistake not to include.

EDIT: I also did a bit more work on this thingy: https://streamable.com/ffimpr

Blended out Palp’s Theme (I hope) a little bit better, cleaned up the word “a”, added a clip of Rey panting to cover up the omission of “and,” and also trimmed down the dramatic pause before she finishes her line (to help fudge the lip sync). Any better? The video cut on Rey’s line could be a little tighter and overlap the line on her catching the second saber more; I’m just worried about carving too deeply into the closeup shot.

I’m loving this change, but I feel the jump is still too noticeable around the 0:11 mark. Rey’s line change sounds flawless.

During ‘Revenge of the Sith,’ there can be the following conversation.

PADME:
Obi-Wan, tell me what’s going on.

OBI-WAN:
Palpatine is the Phantom Menace we’ve been looking for. He caused the Attack of the Clones on the Jedi to bring about the Revenge of the Sith.

PADME:
That means he’s been behind these Star Wars the whole time…

So that’s it? What? We some kind of Phantom Menace?

We can only pray that we find A New Hope before this new Empire Strikes Back. The Return of the Jedi is what we need Padme. The Force Awakens in us all. None of us want to be The Last Jedi. Come with me to face Anakin, we must save him so we can see him defeat the darkness and witness The Rise of Skywalker.
