I should also point out that, due to the use of AI, this might count as a Fan Edit, not a Preservation

Not that it is the same caliber, but would you consider AI being used on The Beatles’ “Now & Then” to isolate and clean the noise on Lennon’s vocals a preservation or an edit? It’s a bit of a gray area. It is not creating, only cleaning and adjusting levels and removing static and background noise.

Might want to find an AI that can properly recreate a red ball jett organ’s keys, instead of that ridiculous inverted, not-quite-right piano keyboard it gave you.

Good catch! I’ll give it a shot. I’m at my limit for image creation for the day but I saved a bunch of pics of Rebo’s setup that I can feed in for the AI to reference.

A little teaser for something I am working on:

This preservation aims to restore the full version of the music created for Jabba’s Palace.

There are some existing versions on YouTube that blend audio pulled from ROTJ and an ILM documentary. I am using several of these as a source.

The full clips are then being processed through AI to clean up the “lost” segments with the goal being to improve the lower quality to match the surrounding better quality audio.

I also intend to release an extended version once completed that extends out the music to 5-ish minutes instead of just 2.

More to come soon!

James Bond 007 Thread
Time

I’m actually really digging Patrick Gibson in the role. He will be the younger Bond in the new First Light: 007 game that is releasing next year. He was great as young Dexter in Dexter: Original Sin, and so far, I’ve loved what I’ve seen and heard about this upcoming game.

Ideally, since they will be rebooting the film-side of things, they’ll need to have a younger actor that can carry the franchise for the next 15-20 years. I’d love to see them just cast Patrick, he’s 30 years old now, and could easily play him for the next 20 years.

The game, or let’s be real… games if this sells well, can focus on 007’s origins, while the movies can have him be slightly aged up and get back to a more traditional film structure.

Looking back, it appears that @Nev said the first 2 paragraphs are locked in for him, so I would recommend this as the final crawl for the next version.

The only issues I see with the current paragraph 3 is that we need to better establish why the Resistance exists. Their goal in the movie isn’t really to find Luke, but they are the Rebels 2.0 because JJ needed Empire vs Rebels again. I took paragraph 3 from the existing edit and the ideas in the thread to make an updated version.

Eagerly awaiting an update on this project as well. I’m curious to see how we can use some of the AI line suggestions that were made to finalize this edit!

Just wanted to let anyone know that I’m planning to watch season 2 of Andor one episode per week despite the release schedule, so I won’t be in this thread until July 9th.

There is another version of this likely coming, just need to give it some time.

I think it’d be silly for me to dedicate any time to this until after we see Andor Season 2, but there may be enough to do at that point.

Would you be able to do textless versions for the movies?

I’d need VII-IX, Rogue One and Solo in a 2:3 format.

I’d love to use these on my Plex server and have had zero luck finding good textless art for the above in the 2004 style. I’d even argue your versions look better than the ones you found.

Maybe a remake for those ones?

Hello, You can contact u/Megakyle from reddit, the guy who made sequel trilogy and spin offs covers.

Will do! Thanks!

Is it really a bump in this thread without a new crawl rewrite? 😄

The Last Jedi establishes that Luke did have his own Jedi Academy. I think it is stronger for Luke’s character if it is clearly established that he did bring back the Jedi Order, but it was destroyed. If this was the case, I feel his story arc in The Last Jedi would have been responded to better: Luke did bring the Jedi Order back, it all went to shit, so he went into exile. Instead of it seeming like he only had a few students.

However, I could see people complaining how Order 66 part 2 was in a crawl instead of the movie itself.

I guess it is time, for the Jedi Order to end.

I enjoyed the new maximalist AOTC. The upscaled footage looks much better than before, and putting the younglings scene in didn’t bother me. I did see 2 small errors during my watch.

The black bars in the kiss scene are light black and when it transitions to Kamino they turn back to dark black. You can also see the transition swipe in the black bars. It’s a lot more noticeable watching it compared to the picture below.

In this scene there’s a thin white stripe that appears for a few seconds.

Has this been reissued yet?

Maybe its not my place to say this but I feel like maybe y’all should hop off Hal. He’s voiced that he wants to be done with the Prequels. The fact that he’s made all these alternate versions of his edits is a courtesy. He doesn’t really owe anything, it’s his own passion project made mostly for his enjoyment. While I’m the last one to criticize someone for making suggestions to other editors (especially because the editor might want and like feedback), with how much Hal has voiced wanting to move on, at this point, make your own (like I will eventually, even if it takes eons lol).

Fully understandable!

I believe he is reissuing Episode II to fix a technical glitch so I figured I ask before he locks it in. He has the “wider-canon” cuts of TPM and ROTS coming still, which will be my preferred versions when released (I like the OG titles).

I’ve been around since V2 or V3 of his prequel edits. It’s come a long way for sure… but after a while, I’m sure it feels like people nagging to change a Krayt Dragon yell for each version because of reasons I guess. We all owe Hal a great debt for these, especially since it is all a labor of love with no rewards except the glory. Gotta put it to bed at some point!

That’s been my biggest issue with the prequels is Anakin having issues with the Jedi from the beginning and being aware he’s the “Chosen One”.

I think it makes for a better story that he’s not aware of this and why the Jedi are making sure that they help him. They are not “holding him back” like Palpatine suggests, he is supposed to be the “best of them” and they are carefully making sure that is the case.

The first time Anakin should ever know about the prophecy is when Obi-Wan is yelling it to him while he burns to a crisp.

I’d have to prefer GAT’s version, if it were spruced up, personally.

Yeah, I threw it together in like 10 minutes. The audio needs to mesh a little better and maybe cut off a few more frames before it cuts to Anakin sitting down. Maybe a little foley for the garage and some crying sounds for poor Ani and it would be golden.

Up to Hal though! I think it would be nice to include like you said though because it is really the only time Padme gives any feels back to Anakin before the arena scene.

That’s where mine is different. Anakin is more questioning of himself not being able to fix things. He only carries his anger inward, not towards Obi-Wan or the sand people. It is more nuanced, which Padme then picks up on and consoles him about it.

The nice bookend is then Anakin promising to his mother that he wasn’t strong enough and he won’t fail again.

It’s funny how including only that first snippet and the aftermath, plus the words to his mother, help reframe that Anakin thinks he is a failure as a Jedi and he blames himself for being weak, not everyone else for holding him back.

Then with Hal’s Episode III edit, Anakin’s fall comes about more from a distrust of the Jedi holding things back from him. Here Anakin is thinking the Jedi are teaching him all these things and then it turns out, or at least he is led to believe, that the Jedi fear him and are holding him back which causes him to go off the rails.

I don’t want to sidetrack Hal’s thread though if he doesn’t plan on adding any of the garage scene back. I did go through the edit again and this would be the logical ordering for it:

Carrying Shimi -> Garage -> Obi’s Message -> Funeral / Viewing Message

Hey Hal, another suggestion to add to along with JarJar’s since you are hopefully making some small tweaks/fixes on the wider-canon Episode II cut, I mocked up a shortened version of the infamous garage scene that I think would be nice to add in. Basically, it removes the cringey whining lines and red flags about slaughtering a village, but it still keeps Anakin confiding in Padme that he isn’t strong enough as a Jedi and her comforting him afterwards.

It was pretty quick to mock up and I just recycled some music from before with Anakin and Padme. If anything, it maybe needs a little bit of foley added for the garage.
