Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Ha ha ha this is so terrible, it is not even funny!  Luca$ is a hack, and he simply got lucky with the OT due to budget and time constraints...his "failures" then ended up being great movies simply because he wasn't involved that much and couldn't meddle with things too much.  Now that he can, we see how much talent and skill he REALLY has!

I can't wait until the next release, where we learn that the story was off a little bit and Darth and Luke are actually brothers, and Howard the Duck is their father...and then we will get to hear Luca$ telling us that this is what he REALLY meant all along, but he couldn't quite finish the story because of the "technology at the time"...

I will never, EVER buy anything else SW-related again (and for the record, I haven't in over a decade now) until the OOT is restored properly...period.  And I know that day will most likely never come, so I know that I will be spending my money on bigger and better things, and supporting ARTISTS who treat their work and in many ways more importantly, their FANS, with the respect they deserve!

FU, George Luca$!  Thanks for ruining pieces of film making history!  But hey, I will be able to sleep at night knowing that the next chicken wing you are stuffing into your face was not purchased with my dollar!  Just give the fans and the people who made you who you are today what we want, and all will be forgiven.  Until then, forget you...

Wait a minute, I am confused at what you are saying here, as "Bring my shuttle" was not in the OOT, it was in the SE, so you were watching the '04 DVDs.

No, "bring my shuttle" was the original, in the SEs it was changed to "Alert my star destroyer to prepare for my arrival."

LOL wow, I stand corrected and this shows just how little I care about SW anymore!  I have seen these movies literally hundreds of times now in my lifetime, and I seriously did not remember that being in the OT at all and only recall the SE version.  Maybe that is because I pretty much gave up soon after '97, and I haven't watched any of the movies all of the way through since...

And it also goes to show, sadly, that Luca$ may be winning the war, as my OT memories are being replaced with the SE ones since that is the last thing I have seen HA HA HA

If only we knew that the colour correction done prior to the files been sent to Lowry included the crushed blacks or if there was more work done after this process.

Slightly off topic, but i was really surprised the other day when i went into my local Currys store and they were playing ESB and the Clone Wars DVDs on their TVs. Now i know thats not surprising because they have the Star Wars promotion with 3P0 & R2 at the moment. What was surprising is this: i wasn't paying much attention to what was playing apart from that it was the scenes prior to them rescuing Luke. But i almost broke my neck because my head turned around so fast when i heard "Bring my shuttle". They were playing the GOUT and NOT the 2004 DVDs. Way to go Currys. :)

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

I don't own a BR player at the current time (yes, I am one of those people lol) and I have no plans to buy one anytime soon.  If Luca$ would have done this right, I would have bought a BR player just for this.  However, he did not...and nothing about that surprises me at all!  From a business sense, I think he is terrible because he keeps putting out shoddy products and finding weird ways to justify it.  If he were an auto manufacturer (for example), he would have probably indirectly killed dozens of families by now, been sued 10 times over and forced out of business.

SW, like most of us here, has been a very important part of my life for decades now.  I won't get into the whole story, but I had a really rough time growing up and the SW movies were an escape for me...I also have very fond memories of bonding over SW with people who have since passed away.  So when people say they are "just movies", well, to some of us they are not because of all of the nostalgia we have attached to them.  From a more artistic point of view, SW was groundbreaking for its time and was one of the greatest achievements of human culture...whether you like it or not, you cannot deny its impact on the world.

Now let's take us to today.  I don't own the '04 set, I don't own the GOUT, and I have purchased NOTHING SW related in the last 10 or so years and I will continue with this until I see what I want and like.  Luca$ has every right to do what he wants with his product, and that is the perks of owning your work.  For every 1 of me, there are probably 5 more who don't mind the changes or are too young to know the back story and the OT (this second point is extremely sad to me, but a whole other in-depth discussion for another time).

I had a theory once TPM hit, and with each passing year, I think I may be right:  the original SW films were a total fluke due to the "perfect storm" of events and circumstances, and that total fluke ended up producing amazing and memorable films.  I say this because it is painfully obvious to me that Luca$ does not know what he is doing, and makes it all up when he goes along.  This is what happens when you have way too much money, way too much time on your hands, and people who will continue to tout your greatness while making excuses for you, and who will continue to buy your inferior, corner-cutting products no matter what...

Did Lucasfilm advertise the 2004 DVD boxset as...
Time

I remember buying the '04 set because I saw the '97 SE in the theatres, owned them on VHS and while not ideal, I could live w/ those changes.  But I read some things on the internet a few days before I purchased the set that had unnerved me (Hayden?!?  Coloring and sound issues?!?) but I, like many others, thought that it was some sort of a cruel joke.  I picked up the set because they were selling fast in my area but left it unopened...a friend had bought the set and was going to keep them either way, so he watched the movies and confirmed my deepest, darkest fears LOL

I returned the set for a full refund and never looked back; I didn't even bother with the GOUT because I knew that would be crap too.  It's amazing how much SW sucks now and how little of a business sense Luca$ has.  I know people may argue that fact and say that he made millions off of the current business model, but I firmly believe that he could make even more if he did things right and offered the seemingly limitless choices that are available w/ the SW franchise...and satisfy what ALL of the fans across the spectrum want...

For God's sake what is WRONG with some of you people on here??!? Adywan posted a video clip from the celebration with MARK HAMILL introducing it, AND confirming it's HIM in the clip.

FFS!

Well I was going off of the first video where he basically said that the shooting didn't happen.  But now w/ the other info, I stand corrected I guess.  I still think the Vader crap was pieced together, though, and I have a hard time buying its originality.  Hey this is what happens when someone (Luca$) lies to you time and time again...even when they are telling the truth, you still think they're lying.  Just ask my ex LOL ;)

But again who really cares from my end, I am still not buying this without the OOT!

Sorry but I just don't believe anything Lucas tells us anymore.

Exactly my point as well.  Luca$ has blatantly made up and twisted so many things as he went along that who knows what the truth is anymore.

But regardless of this scene's authenticity, the underlying point is still the same for me:  No OOT, no SW Blu-ray purchase for me!  I don't care how many deleted scenes and bonus crap they put on there!  Not interested in yet another SE version (because we all know that there will be even more changes by the time this comes out LOL).

Come on, guys, look at Luke's chin in that clip and look at Mark's chin...not even close!!!  Another typical Luca$ continuity blunder, and he can't even get faces right anymore LOL  Plus, even through a cell phone cam the footage looks way too high quality and new.  And Vader's dialog, straight out of the PT writer's vault...how horrible! LOL

Mark saying he never shot this, what I mentioned above...I swear, this looks like a hack.  I think we're going to find out sooner than later that this is not a legit scene from the 80s.

I don't think that this is even worth discussing seriously at this stage of the game because *A LOT* can change between now and the release date...Luca$ has shown us all time and time again that he will never do what you think should be done, and what makes sense from a product point of view.  To sum it up for me:

1.  I currently don't own a Blu-ray player, and don't have plans to buy one anytime soon.  My DVDs are good enough for me.

2.  IF (and that is a huge "IF" there) this release is worthwhile, maybe it will be time for me to purchase a player.  How can this release be worthwhile to me?

3.  Tons of extras, the OOT properly restored (no exceptions), etc.  Outside of that, I am not interested at all.

I didn't buy the '04 release, the GOUT, etc., and I won't be buying this one either if it's not exactly what I want.  I vote w/ my wallet...always have and always will.  Unfortunately for Georgie Boy, I have an excellent memory and have seen these movies so many times now, the PT was such a train wreck overall and with how poorly he has treated the fans over the years, my interest in SW has dropped *considerably*.  So if you don't give me what I want, I don't care enough anymore to even compromise a smidgen and purchase anyway.  Take notes, Luca$, this is what happens to fans/customers when you treat them like crap time and time again. :)

Oh and I really doubt that this will be all 6 movies in one shot, and I get the feeling that he may separate the trilogies again.  But again so much can change between now and then, so who really knows...

Star Wars on Blu in 2011?
Time

Oh wow 2011, LFL you are soooo up on the new and current technology!  Hey maybe in 2012 we can get the super duper version on Betamax!!!

LFL/Luca$ has shown us all time and time again that they are a total joke of the industry, the originals were flukes and only ended up as the magical masterpieces that they were because Luca$' fat hands were inadvertently kept out of most of it, and he has successfully killed SW and turned away all of the true fans...

Until I see a *TRUE* OOT restoration out there (no crappy Laserdisc rip, non-anamorphic crap either), they don't get another dime from me...

Yeah, throw out all of the stuff that you (or somebody else) PAID FOR!  Yeah, that will sure show ol' Georgie boy!  It's not like he didn't get your money already or something...

I say just hang on to the stuff, you never know what life will be like way down the road.  Do you know how many people later kicked themselves for throwing out their  baseball cards back in the day b/c they were mad at the player and/or team, or because they didn't follow baseball anymore?!?

Easily the worst of the prequels.

I almost fell asleep in the theatre!  Not only is AOTC the worst film of the prequels, but it is one of my most hated films EVER and I refuse to watch it ever again because I can't get through the damn thing.  Luca$ had so much potential with that chapter and he blew it...BIG TIME.

The Prequels: I seriously cannot watch Star Wars anymore.

The thing that works for me is to look at the PT as almost EU, so you can take it with a grain of salt and accept it or not.  I still do watch them from time to time if they are on TV or whatever (except for AOTC, I H A T E that movie and can't even stand 5 min. of it) but I just dismiss the parts I don't agree with and that don't fit into my idea of what SW is all about.

Isn't that the one about Luke and Wedge traveling across a volcanic planet in order to throw a magical ring into a pit of lava? I think I may have read that one.

LOL LOL LOL

And didn't Luca$ claim this was the story all along?  He then goes on to say that yes, Tolkein did something similar first but he couldn't do the story right, though, because the "technology wasn't advanced enough at the time".

:)
