Star Wars and Indiana Jones on Blu-Ray Discussion
Time

Okay, Spike TV is currently running the SW films again for some strange reason, this "new old" packaging with the OOT in it *again* suddenly pops up and a horrible economy w/ lackluster holiday sales = to me that Luca$ will be issuing an SW Blu-Ray set very soon...my guess is that it will be close to May.  I mean seriously, this is typical Luca$ right now:  bleed the market dry and then immediately hit the next thing.  IMO he is tapping the DVD market as best he can now (and unloading product that has been laying around) because he knows that once an SW Blu-Ray set hits, SW DVD sales will quickly fall by the wayside.

That "new old" pacakging is a really weird move I must admit, though, even for Luca$...

At this point i would not even take these sets if someone offered them to me free and unopened as they are a waste of the discs the movies are burned to, and the paper and cardboard used for the boxes.

You would even have a hard time making money off of selling them on ebay as almost everyone already has these who wanted them.

Seriously no fixed Blu Ray release for those 2004 saga fans, or even a restored original theatrical trilogy on dvd or blu ray for us oot purists.  Basically Lucas knows how not to please his fans.

He could write a book on how to fuck over your fan base and not give them what they want.

How many of these worthless pieces of shit do you want to bet are going to end up in landfills and being bad for the environment.  Gee you figure a liberal like Lucas would care about that, lol.

Amen! :)

Question about the 2006 dvds I think you call the GOUT
Time

negative1, people like Luca$ and companies like Disney are liars and bite the hands that feed them.  Nothing you can say about technology, etc., means anything and is even relevant here, and history keeps proving how greedy and how big of liars these people actually are.  Don't beleive me?  Check the store shelves in a few weeks and tell me what you see...oh yeah, the same exact discs from 2 years ago that were 'limited" and "never going to be avialable again" LOL LOL

well it looks like the clone wars film will be the first ever star wars blu-ray

I also hope to buy the saga on blu-ray someday when GL & LFL deside to

release them on 1080p Hi-Def.

Hey cool, another thing I will NEVER BUY! LOL

I would imagine this is coming to BR so quickly because it is the first SW release with Warner vs. the typical crappy Fox.

Crygor64 said:Lucas has always had a good relationship with Sony. Sony has to be pushing hard for a Blue-Ray version of the Saga. I know Blue-Ray is doing well, but this would really put it over the top. Unfortunately I predict Lucas will give us a stripped down blue-ray release, essentially the same stuff we have now only in HD, and not the mythical box set everyone is waiting for.

So what you are saying is that you think his version will be so bad that it will even be spelled "Blue-Ray"!

;)

I wouldn't be surprised if George Lucas still supports HD DVD, he's that pig headed.

LOL so true, so true...

And then years later he'll claim that he was with Blu-Ray all along and that was his original idea, and the only reason he did what he did w/ HD-DVD was because the technology wasn't there...you know, 'cause technology can change the entire plot of a story...

A guy you work with knows someone at LFL who has inside info on their business dealings with Sony, right down to the percentages offered?!?  NO WAY, how cool is that?!?

I know you said take it with a grain of salt and you weren't even attemtpting to pass this off as fact, but I still had to be a smarta** for a second there.  'twas all in good fun! :)

I haven't read all seven pages of this thread, only the first one. But has no one noticed that the special features listed for the PT are the exact same as the ones listed on the already released 2 disc sets? This isn't a new release guys, its the old release in a new "pretty" box.

And this is why you should read all pages of a thread before posting...

This is really, really hilarious, but I still stand by my theory that this offers us even more hope than it did two years ago.  Folks, we are now seeing the OOT T W I C E in 2 years when Luca$ once said that we would never see it at all, and then in '06 "Okay maybe this time, but this is it!"  The word is even out this time around to consumers to basically skip this unless you are really, really clueless and own nothing as of yet.  Luca$ has absolutely no choice the next time around but to offer something really special.

Through all of this crap, this is good news!!!!

Well I for one don't want a CG Yoda for many reasons, with one being that it actually gave the film some warmth.  Also, it is more tinkering and changing, and that is what ruined the original films...what was done is done and leave it alone!

Now, a director's cut version of EPIII with the Rebellion scenes back in that were found on the extra discs, that I would be all for.   I will never understand why those were cut in the first place, as the Rebellion is a huge part of what SW is all about.

The restored version of the OOT: never going to happen, period.

I disagree. Luca$ said we would never see the OOT again (especially on DVD), yet we did in '06. Now here it is in '08 and we are seeing them AGAIN, regardless if it is the '06 version again or not.

There's way more hope now than there ever was IMO.

I am probably about the only person here who never wasted any money on the '04, '05, or '06 DVD sets. I learned my lesson after I found myself owning three different VHS sets. My first set of Star Wars DVDs, if I ever get any, will be the only set I ever buy, so I am waiting for the right set to come along, which will probably never happen.

Not the only person, C3PX, and I didn't waste a single cent in '04, '05 or '06 either.  Like you, I learned my lesson many moons ago after I heard, "...will never be ____ again!" and then saw the same product in slightly different form a year or two later.   LFL and Disney are two companies I take with a grain of salt.  If I had a dollar for every time either of those two companies said "BE SURE TO BUY...THIS IS FOR THE LAST TIME!!!" I would be a very rich man LOL

To ESHBG and Doc, yeah, I thought about that too. It would seem very much like Lucas to try to bury news about an OOT release in order to sabotage it. But once again, think about the GOUT. I know occasionally they tried to pass off as the big selling point the fact that they were individually released, but all kinds of ads pointed to the fact that they were being released with the theatrical versions. So whatever George's exact feelings on a release of the OOT is, it didn't keep LFL's mouth shut back in 2006, so I really don't believe we can expect that this time around either. If there was a big, new transfer of the OOT, we would have heard about it by now.

Yeah but don't forget that a HUGE proponent of the OOT is no longer working at LFL.  I imagine all of the fuss was because of him being there and he was able to help create said fuss over the product.  Now that he is gone, though...

Were the GOUT discs THX mastered?

They weren't labelled "THX", but the laserdiscs that were made from the same masters as the GOUT were labelled "THX", so yeah, but it's THX circa 1993....

THX doesn't really mean anything anymore anyway, since they came out with that whole "THX select" thing.

Okay, thanks, Mielr! I don't own them so I wasn't sure. But where I was going w/ that was if the GOUT was not labeled THX and this box is, it could be a strong indicator of remastered versions.

Unless it DOES have an anamorphic OOT, Gaffer Tape, in which case Luca$ would be his typical self and try to sabotage the sale of it.

If this is all true, I think we will FINALLY be getting an anamorphic OOT here, folks, as the big fat well that is Lucas is merely a trickle now.  No matter how fancy they make these, no matter how many extras they included w/ the PT discs, MANY people around the globe have these movies 3-10 times over now.  Charging $50 a pop (if the price above is accurate of course) for the same darn thing again is not going to go over well.  Remember, we are living in much different times and in a much different economy, and people need to be uber-smart with their purchases and financial decisions.  If these movies are the same crap all over again, I doubt many people will be picking these up at the expense of other important things in their life.

If there is an anamorphic transfer of the OOT, who wants to take bets on how many more of the OOT sets they sell over the PT? ;)

And I won't be buying the PT set no matter what they include.  I couldn't bring myself to watch EPII AOTC one more time, my copy of EPIII ROTS w/ its extra disc is just fine, and EPI TPM I have on VHS and will probably upgrade it to DVD one day when I find a used copy for a few bucks...

Saga Book Boxset - The 6 episodes in one box !!!

negative1, it's funny how you try to point out "useless" posts with useless posts of your own...a little ironic, wouldn't you say? ;)

It was mentioned earlier about just how limited this thing was going to be, and I provided the figure w/ the link to back up what I was posting; I like to have sources when I can.

Thanks for your concern with my posts, though. :)
