Films with alternate OFFICIAL releases.

Fantasia has had various versions throughout the years. The original roadshow cut was trimmed down for general audiences. It was the widely available version until 2000 when the longer cut was recreated with some alterations.

All I need are the titles, movie-censorship links, and maybe even more links. Not going to make it a long winded first post as the other user had. Tanks berry much.

Starting a new thread from https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Info-Films-re-released-with-alterations/id/50111/page/1

The link below will have the titles with links to movie-censorship, etc., detailing any different cuts, and will be constantly updated. Titles would be welcome. Most obvious inclusions are the STAR WARS OG Original Trilogy, and Prequel Trilogy.

I want a fan restoration of Executive Decision (1996) that is the theatrical cut in Blu-ray quality. Currently, the theatrical cut only exists in the standard-definition DVD and laserdisc format. If someone were to splice the scenes from the DVD/laserdisc version that are missing from the Blu-ray, and use software to upscale the missing scenes to 1080p quality with color correction/sharpening, that would be great. The closest already existing example I can compare this to is the uncut upscale of Scream (1996) where someone spliced the uncut scenes from the laserdisc to the cut version of the Blu-ray.

Why not a preservation of a 35mm film print for Executive Decision instead of this unneeded upscaled shit?

For me it’d probably be random Extended Editions aka Longer Cuts of films, not fan edits. The list is as such:
ALIEN
DUNE (1984)
IT (Chapter One and Two more similar to the book with tons of deleted scenes and exclusive bonus features.)
KILL BILL (Whole Bloody Affair)
PROMETHEUS
SCREAM 1 (1996)
STAR WARS
THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
RETURN OF THE JEDI
SUPERMAN II
SUPERMAN III
SUPERMAN IV: THE QUEST FOR PEACE
THE TERMINATOR

And MORE!

Is the RoboCop 4:3 DVD fully opened-up? Can anyone compare the 4:3 DVD to the Criterion DVD?

There is no Full Frame DVD of RoboCop, not Region 1 at least. The above images I believe are from a TV airing. The Criterion is the closest Open Matte RoboCop there is on DVD.

At least you type RoboCop correctly.
Myself I’m far more interested in open matte versions of movies instead of Pan and Scan bullshite. Interesting for alternatives, of course.

Well, why being so negative on the former poster then? The Criterion is more open matted, compared to any newer 1.85:1 dvd and BD release, due having a 1.66:1 frame, the way it originally was intended.

Wasn’t originally intended for 1.66:1 but maybe that’s for European markets. That, and the LD/DVD is quite old in terms of approval from the film-maker.
I have that DVD but wish Criterion ported over the PCM or whichever audio from the Laserdisc instead of making it lossy. Different aspect ratio but not currently on the rest of the releases. Glad I have the rest of the RoboCop releases I do, including the par most excellent ARROW 4K Limited Edition release (not the dreaded SteelBook). https://www.blu-ray.com/dvd/RoboCop-DVD/3692/ https://www.blu-ray.com/dvd/RoboCop-DVD/7641/ (I have this in a standard case.) https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/RoboCop-Blu-ray/89781/ https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/RoboCop-4K-Blu-ray/307415/
And only keeping the Criterion DVD because of the different aspect ratio which Verhoven approved at the time, video source ported most likely for/from the LD, and the exclusive bonus features not on any other release. Unless DVDCompare is accurate, and doesn’t mention any carry-overs from it on other releases.
Which makes me wonder if anyone has taken any open-matte HD uncensored broadcast, make it 1.66:1 to make the weird Criterion LD/DVD aspect ratio which Verhoven has abandoned in favor of the newer scans (MGM Remastered BD, and the superior ARROW BD/4K compared to the former), and have a customized BD25 or whichever with all the Criterion bonus. Including the audio from the Criterion LD since it would the DTS-HD MA 2.0 from the ARROW BD or 4K. Y’know, similar to what fellow forum user alleycat has done with other Criterion LDs and made custom BDs. BUT, that’s for a different thread altogether.

Would be nice to see a more current, HD quality or even 35mm scan, of the open matte for The Princess Bride. Only release I know of which has it is the old MGM DVD. Could be wrong on that too.
Then there are the movies shot on Super35, and that’s a completely separate list. Most likely belongs in this thread but best be updated on Letterboxd.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is an interesting situation. Was shot with two separate cameras, maybe at the same time or one after the other, to have two separate aspect ratios. Interesting case since it’s not open matte or Pan and Scan, just a different ratio. Both are official too. CinemaScope, and “Flat”. https://www.blu-ray.com/dvd/Seven-Brides-for-Seven-Brothers-DVD/26770/ https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Seven-Brides-for-Seven-Brothers-Blu-ray/134406/

Oklahoma did similar though both would be shot one after the other

A Todd-AO version was made for 70mm screenings and then a cinemascope version that played in wide release

Which is fairly cool.

All modern releases of Amadeus feature only the Director’s Cut.

No shit. https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=2234
The website I linked to is an excellent resource for this thread, this site, and for other sites as well.

The original German page is even better…
Analysing many more censored versions of different movies…

Best to use Google Translate for the Germerman site, I take it? Not just censored, but alterations. Which I don’t count if the movie received an alternate title card or whatever overseas. Helps with alternate versions on disc, and seamless branching. AND of course the various fan restorations, even the upscales which unfortunately remove the beloved film grain.

HALLOWEEN - Fixing the audio and re-creating 1999 color timing (Released)

Ok so if I were to make a composite using the the Criterion LD for the mono track, would this LD also serve for a color reference to color-correct the BD? Would the 35th Anniversary BD be a good source to use?

The 4K UHD disc/BD in the new Shout/Scream Factory release would be the best one to use regarding video source to color time compared to that BD.

@DarkJedi I would love to see this. Are there any extras or behind the scenes stuff in your version? I have an old rip of the unrated version but am always interested in comparing 😃

the Shout! Factory Friday the 13th collection has an HD version of the unrated cut so this thread is no longer necessary

Seconding, AND the corrected disc is BRILLIANT!

WHY NOT 4K 35mm STAR WARS Special Edition Trilogy too? An idea...
Time

As the title states, why not SW4K97, TESB4K97, and ROTJ4K97? Only suggesting this due to the fact of the 4K77, 4K80, and 4K83, no DNR versions preferred here, are beyond excellent for the OG Original Trilogy. This is one of the last times an official cut of the OT, of course the 1997 Special Edition versions, was released on film instead of directly to a disc format.
Calling for a preservation of the 35mm film releases of this cut in 4K, not some Laserdisc or HD preservation. Maybe it’s because I’m of the opinion where STAR WARS OT needs to have a ‘Ridley Scott’ release where every official cut is available. (i.e. BLADE RUNNER, LEGEND (1985), KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, BLACK HAWK DOWN, etc.)
So, has anyone taken on this effort at all?

Guess I fucking don’t, and will be “wasting” my money instead of holding out on another fan-made disc. Link me to this spectrogram instead of only typing about it. Unless whoever ripped it from the 4K disc grapped it as FLAC and not DTS-HD MA…
Otherwise, I don’t care.

This is the last time I’ll spoon feed you.
https://imgur.com/OtEQhwK
https://imgur.com/HhHl2P5
And FLAC is still lossless

Alrighty then.
ANYWAY. Might as well make an even better of this with BD50, video from the 4K+BD of Shout/Scream, mono from the Criterion LD as PCM or whichever the fuck, and etc. Time for this to receive a sorely needed update because this project/BD25 is fucking old. Not me, someone else should. That someone might need to retime the color for the most current 4K+BD too. Make it be the solely needed alternate movie/bonus disc.
Goes for a lot of other spoRv BD25s, not the majority of them, at least.

http://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=48183#2 It’s lossless on the 4K+BD main discs, not lossy. Or do you not know the difference between audio formats on disc?

It’s a lossy transcode in a lossless container. Or do you not know what a spectrogram is?

This is deader than a doornail.
These two are more than fine for official releases. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Halloween-4K-Blu-ray/210868/ https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Halloween-4K-Blu-ray/294501/
Would be nicer if someone made a custom BD50 with all the Criterion LD audio + bonus features, with one of the source videos from the 4K discs. The mono track from the Shout/Scream 4K is nice too.

The Scream Factory 4k mono track is the same lossy garbage from their boxset disc that’s been filtered to hell and back. Not to mention the compression on it is garbage. Hopefully we’ll get a better presentation someday!

Still going to buy an official release anyway. Where do you think we are?

I don’t know, where are you?

The Danger Zone.
http://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=48183#2 It’s lossless on the 4K+BD main discs, not lossy. Or do you not know the difference between audio formats on disc? Lossy = “Dobly” Digital, Lossless = DTS-HD Master Audio, and Uncompressed = PCM. Yay… Still going to buy the official Scream/Shout Factory 4K+BD release, which I doubt you even have.
Fan preservation as I typed with a BD50, mono from the Criterion LD, whatever. There’s your better presentation.
