They finally did it, I assume now that it’s released we can talk about it now. Been curious to see this project for some time, anyone watched it yet?

It looks really fantastic. Extremely impressive work by all involved.

I skimmed through the 1080 version a couple days ago, and thought it looked awesome!

I just finished watching it. It looks like a lot of work went into it.
The grain looks much heavier on my setup than watching a projected print, but there is plenty of detail and colour.

A comment here: they mislabeled the 1985 and 1993 tracks, so if you’re remuxing the file, make sure that you list 4K77’s “1985” track as the 1993 one.

Those are beautiful, well done!

Like any “future SE” shots, these ones always tend to catch my eye. I’m not sure if I’m imagining things, but these shots of R2 tend to look really soft compared to their surrounding shots and the rest of the scene as a whole.

I first thought this with the 2004 HDTV preservation, lining it up against the blu-ray. Easy to shrug off because it’s a bit lower quality than the disc, of course. But other shots don’t really seem that soft when compared directly.

But it seems, to me at least, this way on film as well. Is it possible that there’s something weird with these shots? Blown up from a larger frame, or shot separately from the rest of the scene? There have been numerous other cases (some pointed out by Mr. Verta, for example) where we had previously just assumed changes were made because “why the hell not?”, and there turned out to be a plausible technical snag that they may well have been trying to cover.

Or maybe I’m just imagining things. 😃

Wait, is it officially released? We got the go-ahead to share the no-DNR versions out in the wild? I know it was decided that RC2 for the 1080p and RC1.1 for the UHD were probably going to be final, but I wasn’t clear that it was okay to actually distribute them yet.

Both versions are on Myspleen.

Ah, okay, hadn’t thought to check.

You’ll probably have to wait until it makes its way onto public trackers, at least as far as the apparently-forever-closed-for-invites MySpleen goes.

Yes, congratulations to all. Any 4K project is such a massive undertaking.

I’m pretty sure someone will upload it to alt.binaries.starwars soon, so just keep an eye on that if you aren’t on the Spleen.

True. And I’m sure someone will do a multi-RAR upload to MEGA or similar eventually.

Isn’t that on Usenet? Which is a paid thing? I’ve heard it come up every now and again and I still don’t understand how it works

You can use a free provider like free-usenet.com, the only catch is the download rate is limited to 1Mbps so it will take a while to download.

It really wasn’t, I thought it was some other private tracker like Myspleen but then there were different providers and fees and I found more questions than answers

I got as far as making an account installing BinBar, but now it wants a host and a port. I’m hopelessly clueless about this sorta thing.

it’s probably something like host news.free-usenet.com and port 443. They’re probably not the best free provider, I suggest you do a search for a good free provider.
