I was thinking about how Krausfadr said that hopefully people would continue looking at ways to move Palpatine’s reveal to later in the movie, and I just thought of something: What if it were moved to the midpoint, right after Rey escapes the Star Destroyer? It would go something like:

  • Kylo feels he’s failed at getting Rey to team up with him against Palpatine
  • Kylo goes to Exegol to try and kill Palpatine by himself
  • Palpatine reveals he’s dying (someone already altered that scene to have him say “I don’t have long”) and offers to make Kylo the new Emperor
  • Kylo is told to kill Rey
  • The next time we see him he’s on Endor, seemingly ready to do just that (we’d need to remove some dialogue, but that shouldn’t be hard because a lot of what he says in that scene is spoken off-screen anyway).

Why wouldn’t Palpatine want to do the spirit ritual with Ben if he’s dying?

Tbh, I think that’s a fair question even of the theatrical movie, where Palps’ body is basically a cyborg corpse from the beginning. The answer in both cases could be that he still fears Rey and wants Kylo to take her out without risk to himself, a plan which he changes after Kylo fails and Rey comes to him willingly.

Presumably because he isn’t sure Ben is strong enough to be the new host, so he wants him to kill Rey to make sure. I kind of assumed that’s what was happening from the beginning (Darth Sidious is no stranger to the “pit your potential successors against each other and whoever survives is more worthy” plot).

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

In the film it’s obvious he wanted Ben to win (“The princess of Alderaan has disrupted my plan…”).

Also wouldn’t he resort to desparate measures?

I mean, he later decides to do the ritual with Rey

Both Neerb and Ed are right. From how I understand it, it’s for two reasons. First so that he doesn’t die in the fight against Rey. Second so that the most worthy of his Sithy spirit is the last one standing.

Is it possible to paint out the lightsaber in that first wide shot during the training course? The next shot has the lightsaber deactivated, so it’s just a continuity break in the theatrical edit.

Related to what Sherlock said, I’m assuming it’s a similar concept. How does one technically remove a time stamp or watermark on certain footage?

Why do you ask? What scene do you have in mind?

In TLJ’s case you just crop them out whereas I’m not quite sure what the process is for TFA’s. It appears to be long and arduous but it’s been done with at least higher priority scenes like Kylo searching the Falcon. Presumably uses either rotoscoping, AI, or a mix of both. There’s a thread dedicated to the matter.

I’ve been doing some of my own rotoscoping and masking for scenes for my own edits. I’ve shared some early WIPs in this thread. For starters I want to remove the ILM logo watermark from the galaxy fleet charging the star destroyers. Hal’s ascendant has most of the clip with the watermark removed, but there’s a longer clip of that and I was wondering on how to give that a go.

Which thread should I go to? I can’t seem to find a search feature for these forums… sorry

This thread is a good place to start, and though it doesn’t specify TROS I’m sure no one would mind that being included.

https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Star-Wars-deleted-and-extended-scenes-database/id/51879/page/1

This is also a good general info area, though it again doesn’t include TROS since there are no official deleted scenes for the film so far.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

I’ve always wondered if there was a way to change the Captain Phasma fight from The Last Jedi to Ontop of The Star Destroyer during The Battle of Exegol in TROS. Masking it may work, idk though for sure.

Why bother? Just make it the inside of the star destroyer Finn and Jannah take down as it’s going up in flames.

The only issue I can see is that Finn’s costume and hair is different between the two films.

Also that scene works perfectly with his arc in TLJ, idk if I would want to extend that arc across the entire trilogy. But also Finn has no arc in TROS so maybe it could work

It would’ve been cool to see Finn have some sort of arc of “leading a revolt among several first order troopers” but within the context of disney that’s just too complex for family theme typed movies and would only cater to a specific sub-group, us the enthusiastic fans.

In a sense, they just gave his “arc” some justification when they met jannah that they also revolted giving him the feeling that he’s not alone. I guess that’s better than nothing. hindsight is 20/20

I was thinking, when the Jedi show up on Exegol behind Rey, what about some type of light flare as they join in with her, something shining to show the light is still alive.

I think the killing of stormtroopers kinda invalidates that whole thing, I remember someone was trying to do stun effects for some of the stormtrooper shooting scenes but idk if it got anywhere. I think Rey killing stormtroopers playing into her embracing the dark side is a great idea, which I think Neverar did in their edit.

Someone managed to recreate Sebastian Shaw’s appearance using Tobey Maguire as a template and faceapp noting that they have a similar hairstyle and head shape, maybe that would help for future attempts? https://m.imgur.com/t/faceapp/Xn1rp99

That was me, but aside of that picture, I didn’t do anything else
I can see some potential, though

I know this discussion should be moved to another thread, but potentially taking footage of Tobey Maguire’s head and using some sort of image manipulation or deepfakes to put Sebastian Shaw’s face onto him and change the hair and clothes to Jedi robes could work.

I’m really stunned how well this works. What a keen eye!

I feel like the clothes would be a lot harder than faces, though. I’m not pretending to have any idea how deepfaking works, but the fact that there are plenty of videos on Youtube successfully replacing people’s faces and not people’s outfits makes me feel like clothes would be harder to change with current technology.

Definitely agree.

As for the classic stormtrooper rebellion idea, I did share a proposal on Discord for how it could be done.

About to be executed, Finn and Poe are arguing about something other than Finn’s secret because that plot thread goes nowhere when they hear a shot. They turn around and see Hux dead, and the one of the stormtroopers says something idk what to confirm they did it and are on their side now. This would require a shot of a dead Hux on the ground and a shot of the stormtroopers. The latter should be relatively easily to create.

Back in the hangar, Rey’s looking for the others. She asks 3PO where they are and he says they haven’t come back. That’s when she sees not Kylo’s ship emerging into the hangar but rather the Millenium Falcon. That single edited shot should do the trick. No dumb lineage reveal to replace.

Maybe the Finn/Jannah conversation can be repurposed but more likely these rebel stormtroopers aren’t seen again until the final battle. There’s only really Kef Bir between their mutiny and then so it shouldn’t be too weird. Maybe insert them into the background in certain shots on Kef Bir. Anyway, they show up again in the final battle with colorful handprints on their helmets, echoing Finn’s bloody helmet in TFA. I got the idea from fanart I saw years ago but unfortunately did not save.

Author

That would be really cool. The only thing I would want from that is a reason for the troopers to rebel, kinda like how in the Trevorow version Finn gave a little speech so it doesn’t happen out of nowhere. But idk what that would be.

Author
Time

Finn could give a speech before his attempted execution on the Supremacy.

I have never liked that Kylo was visited by a non-force user, in this case Han Solo. Whether it was all in his head or not.

What if… THIS is what kills Luke, just like it kills Leia. Either Leia was too weak to do it by herself, or it just took the two of them to conjure up Han Solo’s essence in Kylo. I would accept the fact that Luke went to Ahch-To to die, because he knew that he would be sacrificing himself to save Kylo.

In this instance, he dies WITH his sister. MUCH better than a death to provide escape for a small group of fighters on Crait. It could even be explained that bringing someone back from the dead even temporarily, is against the will of the force and the force took their lives as the price. Even THAT is a better explanation than what we got in Last Jedi.

It ALSO brings the Big 3 together one last time… kind of…
