Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Redux Ideas thread — Page 168

Sade, I was working on a cut that moves Rey’s death to immediately after Palps explodes. I think it removes some of the feeling of “Wait, why is she randomly dying all of a sudden?” and connects it more immediately to what she just did. It was up for discussion a few weeks back on the Ascendant thread; I can try to find the link for you a little later.

Hollyyyyyy shit, if Snoke is the canon Luuke that’s insane. I just saw a reddit comment I really liked regarding this:

I was just thinking it kind of deepens the idea that Kylo is trapped by the Skywalker legacy even when he ran away after the Temple incident. It would mean he unwittingly traded a flawed but well-meaning Luke for the openly manipulative and abusive Luuke, and Snoke is all the worst things about Luke that Kylo saw or imagined, so the “true enemy” line and continued build-up of hatred towards Luke could hit a little harder (especially if we ever find out that Kylo learns of this from Palpatine on Exegol in a parallel to this comic scene).

Yeah isn’t the entire point of that line that when Snoke says “And now he KILLS his true enemy!” he’s so caught up in arrogance that he thinks Kylo is about to kill Rey and doesn’t even notice Anakin’s saber turning toward him because he’s the actual true enemy

Hal removed that moment from TLJ anyways. It’s a kinda cringe moment IMO. I think it works better when Snoke is just quiet as Kylo lifts his blade and suddenly out of nowhere he gets skewered.

Ah ok, I like it but tbf I love almost everything about TLJ ¯\(ツ)

Also I just finished my first version at adding a bit of Across the Stars to Rey and Ben’s kiss, I’m just struggling a bit to have it blend in and out seamlessly:

I think it blends in just fine. Blending out is a different case. I’m wondering if it might be possible to push out the other music just a little farther.

I hope this is some kind of misdirect, or he’s like, just taking some of Luke’s genes to get the Midichlorians for his strandcasts or whatever. The new canon mostly does a decent job of not plucking the sillier elements of Legends. Doesn’t Mando, which is set years after this comic, suggest that the cloning still hasn’t achieved Force sensitivity - that’s why Herzog wanted Grogu so badly, right?

Edit: irrelevant note - does anyone have any idea of how to more clearly communicate that Rey deflecting the lightning back at Sheev is also killing her? In the movie she just randomly collapses, and I think it’d land a lot better if it was made clear that she was sustaining injuries while fighting him. It’d also make her come across as braver to keep pushing despite being hurt, it’d make Sheev continuing to zap her seem mildly less foolish if he was actually doing some damage.

EBSynth might be able to put burns on her, but I’m not very familiar with it

You could try masking out her body and desaturating her skin tones to imply a drain on her life force, though the scene’s so blue I don’t know if that would even be noticeable.

But a “dying battery” symbol on her forehead that says “life force” above it.

Perfect fix. 😛

If this Snoke=Luuke thing turns out the way people think it does, that technically makes him Bigger Luuke. Which would probably be the greatest thing to ever happen to this franchise.

I wonder if it would be possible to put Luke’s hand in the background when Kylo is on Exegol. Just in a tank somewhere in the background. Would be funny.

Vader in ROTJ and Mace in ROTS both got crackly blue skeletons overlayed onto them when they were absorbing Force Lightning. That could potentially be added to Rey?

Yeah, that’d be interesting to see. Like the other two, she does die from it.

Also, what in the comic implies anything about Snoke?? I just see Vader and Luke’s hand. How the fuck does that have anything to do with Snoke?

They’re in the cloning facility from TROS, there’s a bunch of unsuccessful Pickled Snokes in the background, and Vader refers to Luke’s hand as them now having “the blade of creation.” So I guess it’s just an implication, but for it to be anything else would mean this would have to be a pretty overt bait-and-switch.

What they’re probably going to end up claiming is that the first successful Snoke wasn’t created until the time of the sequels. Probably the other Snokes were lacking in power or were straight up dead.

IMO, kinda sucks that they’ve focused so hard on giving Snoke a bunch of clones when in reality it should just be about Palpatine clones, and Snoke was their first lab experiment that went right.

Not only that, but the Sith fleet was already in heavy production. It shows at least “hundreds” of them completed or near-completed as well as the building-sized chunk of kyber that Palpatine has been using to fuel each ship’s canon. It’s interesting because while the Death Star just used regular, light-side attuned by default kyber crystals and Starkiller Base used it’s (well, Ilum’s) core of light-side kyber, it shows that somehow Palpatine has bled the entire “mountain” of kyber to the dark side and has his minions continuing to torture it with weapons, so it’s screaming loudly and Ochi can barely handle being in the room.

It’s a fascinating issue

Has anyone rescored the Ajan Kloss celebration at the end? I’m looking to remove the Force theme but I’m not sure what track to replace it with

Geez, all of this stuff with Luke-Snoke/meta-crisis Doctor just reminds me why I’ve never bothered with “expanded lore” (comics, novels, etc.), even back in the pre-Disney days. I’ll keep myself confined to the films and t.v. shows, thanks.

(Not knocking anyone who does prescribe to all of this supplemental material; just saying that it personally feels like a massive can of worms to me.)

I’ll second that. I followed the old EU for a while, but after so many planet/Star destroying superweapons and Force users becoming so overpowered that you think, man if Obi-Wan or Vader had half this much power in the OT, they would have been completely different movies, I had to give up the nonsense of it all. Not that there weren’t some excellent stories, just so many ridiculous ones too.

Whoah.

Edit: Wait, hang on. We know the Sequel trilogy often had names which were directly related to other characters.

Kylo = Skywalker + Solo.

So how about this:
It’s not Luke
It 's not Luke
‘S no’ ke
Snoke

Too much of a stretch? That ‘ke’ at the end there is suspicious either way.

And damn, if there was one person Palpatine would want to clone into a servant, it’d be Luke…

Wookiee
Wo ke
Ke Wo
E Wok
Ewok

IT ALL MAKES SENSE.
