The Original Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread — Page 26

My idea for a Palpatine appearance would be after the Battle of Yavin, where he contacts Tie Advanced-riding Vader via hologram. Palpatine would inquire about the pilot and Vader would say he felt “a presence I’ve not felt since” (reused from earlier). One can imply that Vader is talking about the “son of Skywalker” and it sets the stage for their conversation in the next movie (where both guys know Vader is Luke’s dad). Distortion of the hologram can cover up whatever syllable mixing or speech synthesis is needed to complete the interaction.

Robot Chicken already covered that scene.

I’m talking more from Vader’s perspective, where he calls Palpatine to confirm he’s alive and that the pilot felt “familiar.” Hence why a distorted hologram covers up any audio editing needed for Palpatine’s dialogue.

Adywan’s Revisited SD included a scene of Jar-Jar and Bail Organa on Alderaan as it blew up. Has anyone tried remaking it in HD? Adywan said that it won’t be in his HD version.

The Jar Jar version should probably remain a fun standalone extra, but I’d love to see surface footage of Alderaan added to the movie itself. I don’t know if it’s still online anywhere, but years ago Timstuff (I think it was him?) had a great mockup that would be amazing to see fully realized.

EDIT: Yep, here it is!

I wonder where the additional footage is from, that’s not poached from ESB?

Some of the planet on fire came from Star Trek: Enterprise episode Twilight.

Could anything be done to make the breathing masks in TESB airtight helmets? It always bugged me they were out in a vaccum without proper protection. Just adding big bubbles around them will do fine. They’ll need gloves too.

Neat idea, but they’re not really in an asteroid though, remember. They’re deep inside the stomach of the space slug. Does that change anything?

Except that they don’t know that they’re inside the slug until later.

The only way I could see making the scenario semi-beliveable would be to put the hint of an atmosphere around the asteroid. It probably wouldn’t make sense for an atmosphere for a body that small, but their behavior and the gravity of the asteroid implies that it is at least moon-sized.

Or an automated voice over the Falcon’s PA system saying, “Atmosphere detected, though not breatheable. Advise wearing filter masks but not a whole space suit or anything.”

LOL
But yeah, I’m sure the Falcon has the necessary sensors on board. Han Solo knows what he’s doing. Not an issue for me.

A while ago, I posted about an idea to radically alter Episode 6, to incorporate some kind of biological weapon instead of another Death Star. Both to avoid a rehash of Episode 4 as well as raise the stakes infinitively. If our hero’s fail, the emperor will use this weapon to eradicate all alien life in the galaxy.

So basically James Bond made me think about this again.
————————————————————————————————
Spoiler alert if you haven’t seen it yet: Because of the Nano bots I had to think of this again.
————————————————————————————————

So here is me trying to incorporate it into the movie.
And first things first the Death Star needs to stay, at least optically. It would be to much of a pain to cut it out of any space battle, meeting and background shot. But it would be the remains of the first one now. The story I have in mind is the following: The empire was already working on their genocide-virus-weapon thing, back in Episode 4. (maybe add a little remark from on of the Imperials during their meeting with Tarkin and Vader in Episode 4)’, to set this up properly)
Then the rebel alliance destroyed the Death Star and unknowingly the rescued everybody. But the empire repaired the Death Star in part to resume their work on the weapon.

Now to keep most of the material in the movie, the Death Star would still be protected by the shield generator and the rebels would still try to fly inside the Death Star and destroy something inside, causing the whole station to blow up again. Only difference would be that the wouldn’t target the main reactor but some generator that is vital to the production of this toxin. Redub Mon Mothma and Ackbar to explain the plan during the meeting.

And obviously there wouldn’t be a trap in form of a fleet hiding behind the moon, but this fleet would rather be expected to be there, because the emperor needs the ships to deploy the weapon in every part of the galaxy.

And instead of the super-Laser hitting the Liberty, it would get shot with this weapon, killing all the Mon-Calamari on board.

So let’s avoid the repetition of a second Death Star…by leaving it in?

Author

Sort of xD.

Just not another super laser, but something far more sinister this time around. Something to turn this into an all or nothing situation, either the rebellion succeed or Palpatine will kill all the alien species in the galaxy. Sort of like a Thanos move, but wothout the random bit.

Would it be possible to eliminate the jitteriness in Obi-Wan’s lightsaber in ANH to make it look like the Prequel glowsticks? How 'bout the reverse and make Anakin’s in RotS pale and jittery? Would make for greater contrast and consistency. I guess it’s not worth the effort.

For reducing would perhaps require a misc algorithm. For jittering up would require minimal masking and messing around with the opacity a bit.

Have there ever been any attempts to replace the ANH Death Star explosion, to make it a little less of a “firecracker goes pop” affair and make it a bit larger and weightier?
