What about Luke’s haircut?

Now that we’re nearing the end of 2021 (thank fuck lol), I’d like to reiterate that I am anticipating the long-awaited release of V2. Compared to other TRoS edits circulating on the web, this is easily the most ambitious and thoughtful of them all as it stays true to the story beats chosen by J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio — although I’m sure some of us would still like to see Colin Trevorrow’s Duel of the Fates brought to life one way or another at some point in the foreseeable future. 😧

I have no idea if an official extended cut of Abrams’ film even exists and is just sitting idly in the Disney/Lucasfilm vaults, but until we get to see it, or at least a feasible collection of deleted scenes, this collaborative fan effort shall suffice for the time being. And for that, I couldn’t be more grateful. 😌

I just hope you won’t be forced to omit MoviesRemastered’s ambitious “crackling saber” effects in light of his hardware troubles. If I have to be honest, it’s becoming a real chore for me to keep up with what goes on for him behind the scenes, disregarding the broken computer or otherwise. That’s one of the many trepidations that comes with spending day and night on social media sites like these forums. You can barely keep up with much of anything these days! That’s partly why I’ll be going off the grid starting November 1st, actually. 😅

Whatever the case, Hal, please keep up all up to date on your progress with The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant. And if it is at all possible, I hope to see an .iso file made out of this excellently crafted fan edit so I can watch it on my TV. That would be nothing short of ‘kick’ and ‘ass’! 😁

Thanks for your attention,
Cameron S. Murphy

I still haven’t sent my individual files to Sherlock - BUT! - I might actually have my first chance to sit and export it all for him (and others) tomorrow during my lunch break at work. Fingers crossed!

Also, thanks, Burbin!

If someone could give me all of the necessary assets, files and instructions so I can do it on After Effects (which I have access to), I could set up my desktop and just try to chip away at the actual work a little bit each day. I have the necessary equipment to do the work, and I just need someone with the knowledge to help me stay consistent with what has been done.

Like someone could make a Google Drive that has a word doc with instructions, the individual shots at the right resolution, and a project file(s) that has the right settings plugged in, that would allow me to just do the time consuming part that no one has time for.

EDIT: I can’t make any promises, but this is also something I would like to see completed too so maybe I can figure out a plan.

To add, I have played around with applying the saber effect plug-in before and creating key frames to adjust it’s size and position. So I know how to do that already. I guess I need to know the exact plug-in and effect that is being used, and any other adjustments that have been made to it. That way I can remain consistent with the shots we already have.

And thanks Chase, I’ll PM you!

I cannot wait to see jonh’s new version of the Phantom Four scene. I wonder how his expertise has evolved since early last year? ^^

CaptainFaraday, please also send those files to me, as I have the rest and can just sit down to mix together what seems best.

And RL, I’ll send you the raw material needed for the remaining saber shots. Hopefully MR can export his project files and be able to write up serviceable instructions.

I’m very close to at least sync-locking things for V2, so that I and others can begin working on things that depend on that while purely visual things remain outstanding.

I can provide AF project files if anyone wants to try? I’ve been unable to open them in months so that’s about as much as I can offer in regards to the crackling saber atm.

@chase did you ever manage to find the time to find the Nihilus statue work?

I think we decided it looked passable enough even though jonh wasn’t fully satisfied with it due to a few minor visual issues.

I’m also curious about that Nihilus statue because I thought that looked passable as well.

Also hope we get that Nihilus statue.

I had forgotten all about that statue idea. If someone can get it to me, I’ll be happy to include it, but I won’t keep track of it otherwise.

And I did not hear back from Nev About tidying up Luke’s haircut specifically, no I hope he can at least regraded at footage and we can go with it whether the glitches have been fixed or not.

I’m also planning hopefully later today to try to reach out to jonh via Vimeo or whatever else I can find as a last ditch effort to secure the updated ghost footage from him in time for version two.

That would be fantastic, Cap! I was actually just saying the other day that I was still hoping to work in some of your changes with what I had done!

While we’re talking about the new saber VFX, did anyone have any thoughts on doing that “flicker out” effect on the Death Star? I was looking into it, but I don’t trust myself (and my complete lack of any experience) at all.

Also, MR, were you able to export a finished version of the sabers finally sparking out on Exegol? I seem to remember it looked really, really good back in the day - you just needed to finish tracking some smoke or something?

If I have time to do the remaining crackly saber shots, I’ll put this idea at the end of workload. It isn’t necessary, but it would be cool to see.

MR, if you could send me you AE project files and whatever useful info you might have, I would appreciate it. At the very least you could explain what you did generally if I can’t use your files.

Hopefully jonh will return soon. I assume he’s busy with his film career.

Chase Adams made the Nihlus shot, but the youtube link is no longer available

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

Did we settle on using the “I am a jedi” with or without the saber ignition sound? I remember it sounding great without it.

And I am so excited to see the haircut with the regrade and the new saber effects!!!

I believe if you listen closely, you can hear Anakin’s saber ignite faintly in the original audio.

@Hal, the statue shot was never finished. Needed the accompanying wide shots done.

@Sherlock, I’ve not opened the project in months but I think I finished this sparking bit. I uploaded a few test shots on MRYouTube a while back but I gotta keep some scenes exclusive to my edit else people will just think it’s a copy.

@RogueLeader, PM me your email. Would probably have to do a zoom call to talk through it as I’m a little rusty and shit at explaining via text.

I do have Chase Adams’ Darth Nihlus shot saved before it got taken down.

But that’s gone through YouTube compression and stuff we’d need the original source.

And, yeah, according to MR there would be a continuity issue in the wide shot if it isn’t modified as well.

I couldn’t figure out which statue it would be on the wide shot. It’s hard to tell as Kylo is turning mid shot from what remember. I also planned to and Revan to one too.
