The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread — Page 349

I’m working on an idea for TCW+RoTS(NCC) edit. Which is trying to see if the scene of Grievous arriving on Utapau and speaking to Sidious can be edited to be used as a Planet arrival scene like the other movies use. (My movie doesn’t have one because we currently start with TCW footage.)

My idea is to use the scene as it exists, but edit some of the Sidious and Grievous dialogue, based on what I’m thinking I wanna try and have this

Grievous arrives, activates the holoprojector, and bows to Sidous.

Grievous: “Yes, Lord Sidious.”

Sidious: “General Grievous, the end of the war is near.”

Sidious: “I suggest you make your move.”

Grievous: “It will be done my lord.

Grievous: “The Chancellor will be ours. And Count Dooku …”

Sidious: “Dooku is weak.”

Sidious: “Soon I will have a new apprentice. One far younger and more powerful.”

This is based on the existing scene, as well what I imagine I’d be able to piece together from Sidious and Grievous lines.

Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions on the lines or places to look to source them from?

I’m keen to see this idea! Your ideal script looks achievable given the original scene.

From The Phantom Menace, at 19:00 Sidious says ‘naïve’, which could substitute for ‘weak’ in your ideal script. Also, in Attack of the Clones Sidious calls Dooku by ‘Lord Tyrannus’ at 2:12:35, which may be useful if it matches the tone of the spliced dialogue better, though it may be a little confusing to call Dooku by his lesser used title. There’s music in both scenes, but it doesn’t sound too prominent.

Maybe the line in TPM at 40:00 - ‘you will then have no difficulty in taking the Queen’ - could be useful for Sidious commanding Grievous to capture the chancellor? But you’d have to add sfx to match him speaking through the hologram. He also says ‘chancellor’ in a sinister manner at 1:32:10 in TPM, which could be spliced with the above line.

There’s probably dialogue useful for Grievous somewhere in the Clone Wars show, but I’m less familiar with that. Even thought the actor is the same, the sfx there sounds a little different to me than in the films. I’m not sure how well they’d hold up side by side in this scene.

Would need to look at the sequence again but I think there’s enough material to work with, Maul falling down the shaft could be done just by using the beginning of his fall before the split and cut to insert of Kenobi’s reaction then back again to a composite of the empty shaft. Re-timed this wouldn’t even need a score change everything moves fast already.

I think you’re right on this, that shot should be long enough to trim in this way. It’s definitely worth attempting. I may give this a try myself soon, once my setup is viable for editing.

I wonder if any of Sam Witwer’s Maul lines could be added here also, to have Maul goad Kenobi at the end of their duel, and help sell the transition to Clone Wars Maul. Though perhaps that would be too much to add this here?

Nah, I’m not really that skilled in editing. Even then, I’m just a kid (read: teen) living with my family, and I also don’t think I have the… mental capacity or intelligence (not that I’m mentally retarded) to create such film-tier edits.

On the subject of adding Exegol to the prequels, maybe there’s a way for the lab where Darth Vader is created to be on Exegol. Because as a kid (who was too young to see Revenge of the Sith when it first came out and so had to learn the story from the ROTS video game, which only shows the lab from the inside) I assumed they must have been on Korriban or something. I was actually kind of disappointed when I learned it was just Coruscant.

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

Has anyone tried changing Yoda’s saber to gold? That way, so in TRoS it’d imply Rey would become a Jedi grandmaster and start a new Jedi Order?

Redub General Grievous so that he sounds like the 2005 Doctor Who Emperor Dalek.

I’m just a simple man trying to make my way in the universe.

Star Wars has 3 eras: The eras are 1977-1983(pre Expanded Universe), (1983-2014) expanded universe, or (2014- now) Disney-bought version. Each are valid.

Have any prequel edits removed the Chosen One?

I’d say most of them have, it’s only the super conservative ones that don’t. It’s not a hard thing to remove, it’s talked about in a few scenes in TPM, mentioned once in AotC, twice in RotS, and never comes up again.

If you used an edit that removed Yoda’s duels (eg Hal’s edits, which only leave one moment of Yoda using his lightsaber during Order 66), this could actually be a doable and cool idea. Something about prequels-era Yoda having a gold lightsaber feels right, though I can’t explain it.

I like that the prequels gave Yoda of all people a character arc. He goes from an army general yelling “Around the survivors a perimeter create!” to “Wars not make one great!” in the OT after realising he and the Jedi failed.

Yeah. Probably unintended but a nice side effect I guess. I like to reinterpret Yoda on the basis of the old Order’s shortcomings.

Though there has been possibly more than a dozen of Clone Wars/Revenge of the Sith supercuts out there, I’d like to see an attempted edit of Matthew Stover’s ROTS Novelization. Minor rewrites to tie into more of the established continuity of TCW, similar to what NFBisms had done with their New Canon Edit.

Insert a Sith Wayfinder or two Palpatine’s office in either Attack of the Clones or Revenge of the Sith.

Is there any edit of TPM that removes the Queen twist? The principle of an elected underage monarch feels weird anyways. I only wonder what changes to the third act would be necessary. Maybe the Queen could send Padme and the Jedi in secret, while staying on coruscant in an attempt to get the republic to help? Maybe the queen disgruntles the Gungans due to being prejudiced and Padme jumps in to negotiate?
No matter how the finale plays out there would be the huge possibility to rewrite and rerecord the queens dialogue as she would be a different character now. Maybe even age her up. Heck make her ancient and go full Princess Dragomiroff style.
Princess

Her headdress looks nabooan already.

Anyway I am getting off track. Has anybody here tried to remove the queen twist? And apart from that what are your thoughts on this?

A friend of mine thought that making Jar Jar be revealed to really be the king of the Gungans would help to strengthen his character. His idea would work in a way that Jar Jar would suddenly turn serious and switch to a more serious voice.

I feel like Jar Jar is supposed to be an outcast. He overcomes that by becoming key to saving Naboo. Adds to Star Wars’ themes of redemption.

It’s interesting idea, but it’d be a bit much to have two characters revealed to be relevant monarchs in the same film.

Or a means of proving himself worthy of the throne after doubt had been cast onto him. Maybe someone accused him of nasty things on Twitter. 😆
