I know we discussed the infeasibility of training AI software on longer dialogue but is it possible to re-dub Obi-Wan’s lines to be 100% Alec Guinness when he calls out to Rey? This is more of a nitpick on OT consistency if anything.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Ewan and his delivery but I feel it would be more appropriate with Alec (or at minimum a Stephen Stanton impersonation). The voice would only be needed for “These are your final steps. Rise and take them.” I’d imagine doing something similar for TFA with “These are your first steps” - when the technology catches up and is more convincing.

EDIT: Another bucket list item for me (mentioned previously and also when the technology is there) is adding Sebastian Shaw as force-ghost Anakin with great deepfake captures and fidelity. Again, these are both far and difficult reaches as of now but just my thoughts.

I really liked having the ghosts be more fluid in the age they wish to present themselves as. So if anything, imo it would probably be a better idea to simply add Shaw’s voice to the Jedi voices scene and that’s it.

The Crackling Saber is on hold as I got a lot of negative feedback with various scenes. The effect changes so much between day/night and with distant and close-up shots so it takes a lot of tweaking. I just don’t have that amount of time to invest in such a consuming thing atm as I’m trying to get through the other 19 shots I’m working on, plus my computer keeps overheating every time I use After effects or Premiere Pro for a long period which isn’t helping at ALL!

It’s a real shame this isn’t working for you. For the record, I thought it was looking really good in every iteration you posted.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Thanks Man, I really appreciate that. I will finish it when I can but it was driving me crazy!

Yeah, age-fluidity is an interesting concept for force ghosts. Guess my head canon on that is more purist. And definitely agree, having Shaw’s voiceover would be a great addition to the Jedi voices.

I was kind of hoping to see something like Dave Bowman in 2010, in order to involve Hayden while leaving room for Shaw.

And MR, I’ve never noticed anything but apparent perfection in the clips and I suspect you’re being far more critical than any viewer will be. That said, take all the time needed.

MR, could you share the scenes you’re still thinking are not good so we can have a look again? As far as I remember, the effect was very well done.

Here’s the last scene I worked on. Feedback was the effect didn’t flow right, I added too much mist, The particles were too chunky and random and a lot of people said some of the day shots didn’t even look different. I’ve redone most of the day ones but this one proved to be difficult to get right and I didn’t wanna move on incase I had to redo them all again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEq_ztkY9hc

Just got another response from Speaking of AI on additional lines for Ben Solo.

“Yep, time permitting, I should be able to help out with some Kylo Ren lines if needed.”

Nice! Besides “No ones ever really gone” and “We’ve become”, what else do we need?

Also, MR, I think that clip looks just fine. Don’t know what people are complaining about.

@MR - Bro, your saber stuff has been fine! I agree with the rest here! Keep it up … until your computer catches on fire!

@Lawdog - nice job keeping in touch with AI, it’ll be promising. Good work!

Honestly, I don’t even know how, “No one’s ever really gone” would fit into the movie. Besides, I kinda think it would be gimmicky for Ben to say that to Rey after Luke says it to Leia in The Last Jedi. It worked with Leia saying “Never be afraid of who you are,” only for Rey’s Dark Side self to say that herself because the line was being repeated to the same character.

I think having Ben say things like, “Rey,” “I’m sorry,” “Please forgive me” under his breath when holding her could work.

Yeah, it wold need to be very brief, and for the noble sacrifice to remain strong he shouldn’t ask for Rey’s forgiveness. I think some ‘Rey!’ and ‘No!’ would work while he’s crawling toward her, just to indicate that he’s vocalizing more in this scene, then have one brief line after she comes back to life. I’m thinking in order to tie it into his character and maybe provide some closure to his ‘I will finish what Vader started’ bit, have him say ‘It’s finished’ or ‘It’s done’ right before she says ‘Ben’.

Having this note of vague finality before he dies might also help to offset the awkwardness of his abrupt death.

“It is finished.” Ben Solo out here about to turn into Jesus Christ lmao.

Anyways, that line “no one’s ever really gone” would be placed after he has faded into the Force and Rey is looking sad at his empty clothes. So there might need to be an ethereal filter applied. For me, it would explain why she suddenly looks happy while taking off in her X-wing, and also indicates that Kylo is chill with his uncle now since he’s quoting him. In other words, since we’re shown the other two OT characters forgiving Ben in this movie, I wanted to imply it with Luke as well since Luke didn’t really seem to give a crap about Kylo at the end of TLJ.

EDIT: Apparently the novelization actually has him saying “I will always be with you” and Rey responds with the Luke quote (which literally makes zero sense since she never heard it). I suppose just that alternative Ben quote could work instead.

Also, I wanted to mention this since I found this an issue with V1, but I felt the music that plays at the end where Rey sees the ghosts was too quiet as it started up.

I agree - I also think “No one’s ever really gone” would feel gimmicky. And I think it would undercut the new addition of Ghost Ben at the end, if we’ve already heard from him after he disappeared.

I like the idea of him repenting, honestly. Accepting blame. Maybe something like “This is my fault” as he’s holding her? Or maybe “Don’t die,” or “Don’t go”?

I also was considering having him call out to her “Rey…” before she “sees” him on Exegol. Or maybe he could say something when the Knights of Ren approach him? I dunno. We went from so few possibilities to potentially unlimited!

God, maybe he could even say a soft “No, Chewie…” when he thinks Rey blows him up in the desert. Remind him of his childhood, and give him a few more layers in the process. I’m spit-balling here!

Oh, and MR, I also think that shot looks really good! Did you have that misty effect the last time you shared that shot? It works brilliantly, imo.

Yeah, I think any longer lines would seem odd. While “I’ll always be with you!” is a nice sentiment in the novel, it’d seem super, super shoehorned-in in the movie, especially since Rey doesn’t have any kind of facial reaction we could use for that. His ghost appearing shows us the same thing in a much smoother way.

My vote would be for stuff like “Rey!” or similar when they meet up. Then again, she does already know he’s there because she sent the lightsaber to him, so perhaps a “Thanks.”/“Thank you.” (both thanks for the saber teleport, and thanks for healing him and reminding him he’s not doomed to be evil) would work. It’d have to fit with the cheeky, Han Solo-esque body language that Adam Driver adopts once Ben gets his mojo back, so I’d personally lean into swashbuckling and glad to be there to help, rather than going too moody.

While I like the idea of better communicating to the audience that Ben is making a conscious decision to sacrifice himself to save Rey after he crawls out of the pit (as opposed to his death seeming like a surprise in the theatrical), I’m not sure any additional dialogue wouldn’t feel out of place in that scene. It’d have to be something very finely honed and thought through (so not NO, NO, NOOOO!).

I don’t really feel the need to add anything to the scene, but it’d be good to get some quotes of “Rey,” “no,” and things like that to play with.

I’d be most interested in the dyad line. Maybe request the complete sentence as well as various pieces of it.
“What Palpatine doesn’t know if we’ve become a dyad in the Force. Two that are one.”

“We’ve become a dyad in the Force.”

“We’ve become a dyad.”

“We’ve become…”

“Become a dyad…”

Etc. Just to have slight variation of the AI delivery.

Yeah, Dude! That’s exactly the same link from February. I think there’s 4 different layers just to create that effect. I can see a few flaws in it but to spend that amount of time on something to then get nitpicked for adding what people asked for really burnt me out for that scene.

I need a new computer but knowing where I’m living comes first atm.

MR, the saber is amazing IMO, really well done, looking foward to see how it goes in the whole movie.

Also, about the AI thing, i like the idea of a “thank you” as Ben last words, i think it could be a beautiful moment, also “Rey”, “I’m sorry”, “it’s my fault”, etc to go with the emotional moment, let’s experiment, see how it goes.
But anyway, it’s a robot, not a paid actor, so i believe it would not be trouble to ask for a little more, why don’t we ask for a couple of experimental lines and to the AI guy and then make a bunch of tests to see how it goes?
