Sade, I think your Alt #1 flows the best, from a quick listen. Nice job!

For what it’s worth, I’m of the mind that it’s very nearly there right now. I can sort of hear the blip; but I’m also listening for the blip, and I’ve been listening to the same line God-knows how many times, so I’m a bit hypersensitive to it right now. (I actually took a break last night so that I could clear my head of it a bit.) As Sade explained, Daisy Ridley has such a unique tone in this scene that she doesn’t seem to have in many other places, which makes the line a bit difficult to replace seamlessly.

Personally, I would consider it between “passable” and “good” right now, but I understand the folks that are worried it’s not perfect. It’s definitely something I’m going to try ironing out more though!

I don’t have time to give the kind of post this discussion deserves right now but it’s too bad “you are nothing” can’t be his final line.

I alter alt #1 is the best so far.

Man, you guys continue to tear this up. I feel like the bumbling parent wandering in and out of the room while amazing things are happening and meekly starting to say “let’s not get out of hand” before even that sentiment gives way to awe.

My previous mockup was just done messily in stereo and with music from the OST, so it wasn’t usable in a 5.1 edit. It also noticeably omitted Palpatine’s final thrust of lightning just prior to the big pause and Rey’s lines. Thus, I have produced a second mockup.

“I’m a jedi” Sounds great.

I honestly think it works okay to have “you are nothing” over the shot of Rey. This whole change is a really great idea.

Add me into the chorus of people that thinks “You are nothing” over Rey works. The only thing about it (going off of Sade’s mock-up of it here) is that there’s some awkward pacing before the line.

I’ve got a cool announcement to make. I happen to know the actor who played Sors Bandeam in Revenge of the Sith, and I asked if he would like to reprise the role in this edit, and he agreed!

I messaged Hal about it and we agreed it would be cool to add him to the Jedi voices speaking to Rey. I thought I’d open it up to everyone to decide what he says.

While yes, it would be funny to have him say some variation on his iconic ROTS line, I’d rather not. This is a serious scene in TROS and I don’t want to detract from that; plus, we have a chance to write a whole new resolution for a character that’s become a meme and a joke, with the original actor from the movie - how often do you get that chance?

Mistress Rey… what are you going to do?

I haven’t had the energy to talk about this movie at all lately. But here’s something: does Anakin’s voice say “bring back the balance, as I did”? or something to that effect? because that always struck me as an awful line. He didn’t bring back crap

reylo?

Too bad his character was axed from my edit of Episode 3! But this is a pretty cool inclusion, so I am glad he offered!

Something about there being “many of us” might strike a good balance. It’s been a while since I watched the Jedi voices scene; do any of them mention Rey “not being alone” or words to that effect?

What are you talking about? Palpatine did die, albeit temporarily. In TLJ Luke specifically says “for many years, there was balance” when talking about the time between episodes 6 and 7.

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”

To be fair, that’s the only line that establishes that and it is arguably contradicted by Tekka’s ‘Without the Jedi, there can be no balance’. Luke never finished bringing back the Jedi, so it’s a bit more up for interpretation.

While I am personally not a fan of the way the sequels did a “Ummm … we want to revert back to the force not being balanced … so Rey has to do it instead of Anakin … so yeah! It was kinda balanced for just a little bit, so just forget about the whole prophecy thing and what the PT brought up in general” (Again, just my personal view)

If it was possible, a fun twist on things is if Anakin’s voice said “Rey, finish what I started” or something on those lines. It would have been a call back/twist to Kylo’s version of finishing what Vader started … and here Rey is finishing what Anakin started (Getting rid of Palps, AKA balancing the force).

Personally I really liked the theme of balance being something has to be actively maintained. That’s how things tend to be in the real world, after all, and Star Wars is all about vaguely applicable moral lessons. The importance of keeping up the work of previous generations - and if possible, surpassing it - lest you forget the lessons of the past is one of the things the sequels manage to convey (especially in TLJ) I think.

Agreed. It would be a shame to remove Anakin’s line. It’s there to signify that he was in fact the chosen one, but due to the unforeseen and unnatural abilities of Palpatine the will of the Force was delayed.

So cool! This would be a fine addition to the collection.

Maybe we could try to expand the voices scene to fit a couple of additional lines in it? Sors’s voice could be one of them, and I also tried to add in Plo Koon’s once.

One could also fit in an extra Anakin line in there.

I can’t recall who it was that originally came up with it, but I absolutely love the idea of “making” some sort of Sebastian Shaw Anakin line for this scene.

Does anyone know if there’s any recorded Shaw material out there (film & TV roles/interviews etc.) that would be appropriate and Anakin-esque enough for us to pull a line or two from? Maybe even just a single word?

I think I missed this change, but does Kylo now refer to General Hux as a Captain? would definately add small bit of development for him in his reason for betraying First Order, other than trying to sabotage Kylo; assuming it would be at “sense unease in my appearance Captain Hux”

Also regarding the force ghost scene, I believe Jon h shared an updated shot of a side angle of the ghosts reaching out, also fixing an error with Luke’s cloak; does anyone know if its being used for the next version or if Hal saw it?

That suggestion was originally brought up in the general Redux thread.

I like the idea of demoting Hux to captain, I even ended up making a rough mockup of how it would sound like with help of a fortunate LEGO line.

Of course Hal you can choose to not include this in V2 (after all it’s only a first attempt) but it struck me as an interesting way to make Hux’s heel-face turn slightly more understandable.

I think it would be odd for a mere captain to be at the board meeting, seated right across from an allegiant general. And I think Hux has plenty of motivation from 7 and 8 to hate Kylo (not that he even liked him in the first place).

Sounds like “Gaptain Hux”… just need to refine the editing but that is actually the right tonality, seems to fit well. Which line is that from?

Whoa, that’s really cool! It might cause a little bit of “Wait, who said that?” But I imagine that that happened for a lot of people when Ahsoka and Kanan started talking, so…why not, right? “That’s the guy who ordered my execution! Avenge me, Rey!”

Oh man, if we could get a Plo Koon line in there, that would be lovely as well. (I’d argue that he’s featured way more in the main canon than Aayla Secura or Adi Gallia, who both somehow made the cut. I even had to look up that last one.) Any ideas what would be a fitting line here? He has a lot of dialogue in Clone Wars.

And Knight of Kalee, I like the idea of demoting Hux, but I don’t think that first run is quite clean enough, unfortunately. Is there a recording of Kylo saying “Captain” kind of mockingly? Like, “I sense unease about my appearance, Captain?” We know who Hux is, so when Kylo calls him “Captain” and Hux responds, I think we can put it together (without saying “Captain Hux”).
