Deepfake AotC Palpatine onto RotS Palpatine to fix his inconsistent age.

Author
Time

That works too. Just make it consistent.

That said, his AotC age is far consistent with both CW series, as it’s the look theirs is based on.

Author
Time

My head canon for the inconsistency is that the pain and suffering of the Clone Wars is energizing Palpatine, allowing him to appear more youthful. Palpatine trying to maintain his facade as the benevolent leader of the Republic during the 10 years of peace preceding the outbreak of the Clone Wars was beginning to wear him down.

I imagine one of those Neutrogena commercials where models splash water on their face, but instead it is Palpatine moisturizing his skin with the tears of the innocent.

Author
Time

Look, as far as I’m concerned it isn’t his real face, so it’s perfectly reasonable to think he might have rejuvenated his mask between films, but it’s still a little awkward.

Author
Time

Huh, I’d never really consciously registered that TCW Palpatine has the liver spots of AOTC Palpatine, but he totally does.

The solution therefore must be to deepfake TCW Palpatine into AOTC and ROTS.

By introducing Anakin and Padme as two young people with major formative experiences seemingly enabled by the weakness of the Old Republic (slavery allowed on Tatooine, the Senate’s refusal to stop Naboo’s invasion), The Phantom Menace actually provides what would have been the perfect setup to their relationship and eventual split…except the rest of the trilogy didn’t use it.

Instead of Padme being a fairly generic pacifist type, she and Anakin should both be politically hawkish and support Palpatine’s calls for a stronger executive power. (Hell, Padme & Palpatine were also from the same planet, and the latter was even introduced as an advisor to the former, but nothing is done with that connection other than one line in a single ROTS deleted scene.) This way, the two could bond not just over mutual attraction but also shared political convictions forged by the conflict that brought them together. Then in ROTS, Padme is objective and principled enough to recognize that Palpatine is going too far, whereas Anakin’s views remain clouded by his struggle with the dark side, the Jedi, etc. from the official movie.

Sadly, this reinterpretation couldn’t actually be done with the source material, but maybe it could be made easier to infer by cutting from AOTC Padme’s appeals to diplomacy, opposition to the Military Creation Act (a plot point that should probably go anyway to eliminate the coincidence of the Republic discovering a clone army made just for them at the EXACT MOMENT they’re debating whether to commission one), etc, along with perhaps some creative use of audio from other Natalie Portman roles. Sometimes cutting out obstacles to a particular interpretation is all you need to do to make something click.

It should be possible to have Dooku and Sidious meet on Exegol at the end of an AOTC edit. This would enhance continuity with the ST.

Author

Yeah. That scene had always confused me because (1) nobody notices Count Dooku’s ship returning to Coruscant, and (2) the creepy lair where they meet is never shown again (aside from one of Yoda’s visions in TCW). Replacing it with the temple on Exegol would solve both problems.

Ooh, and then maybe I could color-correct my edit of CW03 so that Exegol is where Dooku meets Ventress. I’d have to remove a lot of stuff that contradicts it, but it might help tie everything together.

There’s a direct quote in ROTJ on Dagobah when Obi-Wan is telling Luke about his sister

To protect you both from the Emperor, you were hidden from your father when you were born. The Emperor knew as I did that if Anakin were to have any offspring, they would be a threat to him

This would mean that Vader/Anakin didn’t know that he had a son in ANH or that his wife was pregnant when he turned to the dark side. This would make sense since the closest he came to know who Luke was in ANH is in the DS trench run when he says “The force is strong with this one”.

The best way to fix this in the PT is to overdub the dialogue between Anakin and Padme when she reveals she’s pregnant to him and have the visions of her dying in childbirth removed and make his turn to the dark side a seduction of power. Then on Polis Massa, when the GH-7 medical analysis unit is speaking to Obi-Wan is when it reveals she’s carrying twins, with both of them being nameless and genderless when they’re born.

Anakin thinks Padme died prior to giving birth (and the babies with her), right? Hence she looks pregnant at her funeral. The recent Vader comic explores this idea a bit.

Yeah, my read on it is that Anakin believes Palpatine’s lie that he killed Padme, and therefore he thinks that she - and by extension, their child (he didn’t know there was twins) - died when he Force-choked her on Mustafar.

I actually really like this idea. Was just wondering if there was a way to incorporate Exegol into the PT in some shape. Would be hard to do but cool to see.

“Lord Sidious, I have good news…should I simply say the news or do you want to hear it in person?”

“Lord Tyrannus, you know that we must meet once a month for our dark conspirings.”

“Where would you like to meet, Lord Sidious? Perhaps someplace that isn’t too hard to get to this time…say, a nondescript location near the Senate?”

“Sometimes I question your dedication to our Sith cause, Lord Tyrannus. Just for that, take your solar-powered space boat and meet me at the literal ass-end of the galaxy, like so far away and hard to find that just asking for directions is illegal.”

I wonder how hard it would be to alter the shot in TPM where Maul falls down the shaft, so that he doesn’t split in half? As good as Maul gets in Clone Wars, it still bothers me a little that Lucas so obviously killed him and then went back on this. Could also add the ‘Kenobi!’ scream from Rebels here, just to make clear that he’s not instantly killed by the strike.

Would need to look at the sequence again but I think there’s enough material to work with, Maul falling down the shaft could be done just by using the beginning of his fall before the split and cut to insert of Kenobi’s reaction then back again to a composite of the empty shaft. Re-timed this wouldn’t even need a score change everything moves fast already.
