I’m down to draw some graffiti designs. I used to be a cartoonist for a living.

Oh yeah that’s right. Sounds good.

Do we have any idea where exactly the art would appear? Obviously on a wall, but at what point in the movie?

What about the walls where you see the storm troopers knocking on doors and messing with the residents?

Someone (I think RogueLeader?) suggested an image of Luke standing in the pose of the original movie poster. Are we all happy to go with that? I personally think it’s a fun idea that works in context, and I can visualise it a few different ways.

If there is a spot for nerds, I’d put on a wall Skywalker in aurebesh somewhere ….

But yes to a grafity style Luke in ANH pose. That’s iconic.

whichever the pose, he should have his “Jedi Master” black robes he wore on Crait.

Author
Time

Right. He’s in that pose with his lightsaber overhead, but it is old man Luke from Crait.

Faraday, or someone else who does graphic design, maybe we could get another piece of graffiti that says “Skywalker” or “Skywalker Lives!”

Written English in Star Wars would be a little off-brand.

A couple decent hints at Kijimi being a boilerplate like that would dovetail with this edit’s crawl’s opening paragraph. I forget the exact words, but flames of rebellion spreading across the galaxy and needing to merely be united.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Sorry, I meant in aurebesh.

Besides graffiti, I didn’t think to much extra would be necessary. You can already hear blaster shots and stuff in the distance I believe, during certain points of the Kijimi sequence. I think adding more sounds of distant blaster fire, explosions, even battle cries, could help keep that in the audiences mind. It looks like the stormtroopers are raiding houses, so you could even have something like a distant First Order announcement saying anyone harboring insurgents will be punished, or something like that.

Cap, that poster idea sounds really cool!

Hal, I don’t think English would be inappropriate. After all, English was in the the Original Trilogy before the Dark Times…before the Special Editions. I think it should be whatever is most clear for the audience; and I’m worried that a quick flash of a poster might just feel like a little Easter egg. (“Haha, look, it’s the original Star Wars poster! How fun!”) If there are multiple signs that the audience can read that say “Skywalker Lives!” it would help to make the uprising more clear.

RogueLeader, I went through the scene again, and I didn’t really notice any blasters or fighting, at least when they first arrive. There are some explosions when Poe and Zorii are on the roof, but they sort of come out of nowhere. Are the First Order bombing people who are breaking curfew? What? Before that, all I could make out were some marching stormtrooper sounds, and some demands to “Show us your identification.” In fact, it completely goes against the idea that the Civilian Fleet would show up at the end, because the whole sequence is just people cowering in fear in their homes. “They win because they make you think you’re alone.” No, Keri Russell, they win because they’ll f*cking blow you up if you’re outside after dark.

(There’s also some stormtrooper-ing after Kylo lands, but that feels like it’s on Kylo’s orders, rather than being a progression of ongoing fighting.)

And I’m not sure about a First Order announcement; I’d much rather put the emphasis on the Kijimi citizens rising up against their oppressors, than on the First Order doing more oppressing. Otherwise the theme of hope and rebellion will become lost.

I definitely don’t have the technical know-how for this, but it would be amazing if we could add some visual effects too. Like when they run into Zorii, there could be a bright flash at the top of the alley, as if an explosion went off. Or when Zorii tells them to keep low, and they run across the street, it would be cool if we could mute Finn’s quipping (“Poe Dameron: Runner of Spice! Tee hee!”) and maybe even show some blaster shots firing past them. It would be kind of a little callback to the opening of A New Hope with C-3PO and R2-D2. (Though ideally with a less-comedic tone.)

Thanks! Like I said, I think the idea came from RogueLeader. I agree with the comments about Crait Luke in the pose, and maybe some Aurabesh text. I’ll put something together when I can; I’m a bit busy with Real Life Stuff at the moment, but I should be able to sketch something in the next few days. Then we can revise it if necessary before I do any inks or colours.

Also, kudos for noticing the color in the reflection on the floor too, you cheeky bastard, you. That really helps to sell it.

Don’t mean to interrupt the conversation, but just have to point out it was Chase Adams that pointed this out in my original mockup. Got to give credit where it’s due!

However Poppasketti,
I think you need to… reflect on that clip you posted. If you catch my drift… 😉

I think just some graffiti and some distant blaster fire works to help sell it. Not everyone would rise or fight, so where we see the heroes and the troopers knocking on doors etc. would be like yellow zones and the FO is trying to contain the immediate zone.

The crawl already comments on the unrest of the galaxy, so doing some “minor” things would be enough.

It’s like we are trying to make the movie actually make sense. Lol.

What? No, that’s crazy talk. I thought we were here to implement every TROS idea from the Worst Edit Ideas thread.

If this clip gets created with more battle noises and the graffiti/posters added, I will absolutely add some yells to the background

After the interrupted execution scene…

Stormtrooper: “What are you doing down here?”

C-3PO: “I am a highly-trained Resistance spy.”

Stormtrooper: “Then why ar- wait, what?”

[PEW!]

Okay, here’s a stab at this. I don’t think there’s enough screen time to fit in a “What are you doing down here?” But I could try speeding up the 3PO clip.

(Note: I just muted the movie audio when they talk, so it’s just isolated dialogue right now)

Nice, axlanian. You have a much better stormtrooper voice than I do. 😂

Author

The first one sounds great for me axlanian ! (But both of them are good work of course)

Author

Weren’t we going to have him say “It appears” before that phrase? Unless we have another reason as for why he would know that information after a mind wipe?

Hehe, nice. And great trooper voice, no offense intended to RogueLeader.

I suppose there’s not enough time in the footage to have the trooper address 3PO before his line, but I imagine it being funnier for it to be a direct answer to a slightly irrelevant question.

Could the trooper maaaaybe be trying to talk over him for the first two seconds, as though 3PO interrupted him to say that?

I actually cracked up at this. Brilliant job!

I wonder if we might be able to speed up the 3PO line enough to squeeze in the first Stormtrooper line, just because he’s gesturing as if he’s saying something. (I think he original line was “What’s your operating number?” We could potentially squeeze a little more time out of it if you could record “Who are you?”) Or maybe there’s an extra shot we could slot in of some random stormtroopers in the hanger to pad it out?

Would it be possible for you to share just the line you recorded? I’d like to play around with it later.

I like where this is going. Could you try as both Jar Jar and Hal has suggested if possible?

Again, fantastic really, just being nick picky for the sake of it to really hammer down all the possibilities and avenues. The trooper voice is perfect for the scene and I couldn’t tell if it was from the actual film or not, so that’s good.

The line would work best if somebody had explained on screen to 3PO who he is after his mind was wiped.

But yeah, since that didn’t happen, he’s gonna have to say “It appears” beforehand (which implies that he either pieced things together or was told offscreen). Otherwise it sounds too much like something 3PO would say pre-mindwipe.
