There are hints throughout the film towards her having a saberstaff (when she’s training she pulls a stick to herself and uses it as a staff, and when she’s on the death star her vision has her with a saberstaff.) And it would be nice if that had some sort of visual pay off, even if it’s only in this final scene.

That’s a great idea. I think it can be done but the amount of time it would take to execute a good-looking scene would be way too much for a few seconds.

I was actually going to commission an additions scene of Rey building her Saber and merging Leia and Luke’s broken kyber crystals into one to give her the purple Saber but Covid has stopped that idea in it’s tracks.

That idea is one that I would still love to see as the film needs it and I really like Rey having a purple saber at the end, since she should be carrying on Leia’s legacy of being something other than a Jedi.

Exactly! Hopefully I can still pick it up at some point but the girl I wanna use as Rey lives in Florida and we’re still on a travel ban here (can’t even leave my city).

I’ve just invested in a pro 4k camera, Hans dice and Kylos gloves for a small extra shot in TROS which I’ll now have to do all myself.

MR, that looks great! And dialing it up a little helps the audience notice the saber crackles now, for lack of a dedicated shot to clearly dwell on it, even if later scenes aren’t cranked to the same level.

And I don’t think I’d want to make Rey’s saber into a double blade, to fit in with material I hope to eventually see or read about that continues the story.

Looks fantastic! I agree with Hal - since there’s not really an establishing shot of the blade being damaged, it’s important that the audience can obviously see that it’s been scarred from the last movie.

Can’t wait to see all of the new blade effects in v2. Huge kudos to everyone who’s been working on them!

I keep getting into arguments with people about the extra Mustafar scenes having leaves on the trees but you can clearly see them in the original footage aswell as I think it all works as a scene. F the haters!

When I see this kind of shot, even though I remember how silly the movie is, I can’t help thinking “hey, at least this movie looks good!” 😄 (I think it looks way better than TFA which is the least interesting looking SW in my book)

As well I kind of think the added blue glow is a bit unnecessary, sort of overpowering. But then I’m not sure how much of that is what you’ve changed for this and what you’re doing in general in terms of color correction, as I’ve noticed, color-wise, your clips look a bit different than the film.

Yeah, I’m totally guessing the blue as I can only see primary colours. I made it pink at first thinking it was ice blue 🤣

Thanks. There is a swatch colour select tool but it seems to go a little green. I’m glad someone else did the purple Leia Saber cos I can’t see the difference. 🤣

Btw What happened to the epic Mustafar extended sequence in which Hal used the footage from some game? 😊

lol, to be fair I noticed it while watching a test clip once I had plugged in MR’s and Burbin’s recent FX tweaks.

Also MR’s recent footage looks fantastic. I agree with Dom about the mist but even so I wouldn’t have batted an eye.

And sometimes while I think the nuances of color correcting people get on about (“there’s a bit too much green in the highlights” and stuff like that) evade me, you’re pressing on with a challenge. Just out of curiosity, you’re saying with Leia’s saber you literally do not perceive a difference between the new and original footage?

I can’t see the difference between a dark/navy blue and purple or blood red and woodland green. It’s a nightmare being a colour blind graphic designer.

Damn, just thought. I’m not sure if my source footage has the Skenera’s LUT added. Once these scenes are done it shouldn’t be an issue to switch them out if I make a mistake. (Be awake 25 hours and counting)

Will the sound of Luke’s crackly saber be changed to more closely match the chainsaw-like sound of Kylo’s?

(Apologies if the sound has already been tweaked. I’m looking at the footage muted.)

I don’t know if it’s just me, but the new effects for the crackle saber are almost too subtle compared to what kewlfish was doing originally.
