No, he’s right. That reviewer captures my thoughts pretty well overall. I fundamentally approve of TLJ and disapprove of TROS.

I will harness the collective power of this community to execute a solid V2 as well as a Rey Nobody edition and then destroy the DeLorean.

My stance on revising fan edits.

A couple of other tiny thoughts I had while looking at the Death Star fight. The added shot of Leia holding the medal - would it be possible to add some of that bright white backlight color into the shot? Right now, the colors feel a little off between the Medal insert and the Leia silhouette shot. It’s just a small little thing, but it might help to incorporate the shot better into the scene.

The other thing is, would it make the scene flow better if Leia says “Ben…” before we see her, and then Kylo stops fighting, turns, “sees her” - as if he’s stopping fighting because he hears her voice and senses her presence. The way it is in V1 (and the original cut) is that Ben stops short, Leia appears, then says his name, and then he looks over at her. There’s a split second where the audience is thinking “Wait, why the heck is he stopping?” Rather than “Oh! Was that Leia’s voice?” The scene still makes sense as is, I just wonder if it might flow a little more cleanly. What do you guys think?

I agree, I’ll probably do this in my own edit

I think I prefer the way Hal last did it to be honest, makes it sound like 2 songs are overlapping

That was my intention, just considering John Williams’s own penchant for polyphony. I wanted the themes to overlap, rather than sounding like two separate pieces smooshed together; but if it doesn’t work in this case, it doesn’t work. Maybe I’ll play around with the audio levels a bit. Appreciate the feedback!

JJ can’t save the franchise, only Hal’s new powers can do that.

No but seriously Hal, thank you! Can’t wait for Rey Nobody!

Since you reminded me, I went ahead and replaced the DOTF snippet with the actual OST in higher quality. I put it in place where it was, and extended it backward to the beginning of the track.
What do you guys think? Too heavy?

Haven’t responded in a while, but just wanted to say I really liked this here. Anyone arguing Sequel music would fit better thematically for Rey and Kylo’s final duel than a Prequel reference is totally fair, but if you’re okay with “it’s a reference to the cancelled IX script” or “the chronological final duel rhymes with the chronological first duel” or even just “I want to hear DotF dang it,” I think it works really well here. It’s dramatic and menacing and different enough from the Phantom Menace version that it doesn’t feel like… well, a fan just ripped it from another movie and threw it in. And as for “too heavy,” I think it wasn’t heavy enough in v1. Now it’s long and loud enough to leave an impact, where as in v1 it was so quiet and short that I wouldn’t have noticed it was there if I hadn’t been following this thread.

Also, watching/listening again, I think this new music helps in a way I hadn’t considered before: it’s so full of dread, it feels like the whole fight is just something bad happening, rather than a battle of good vs evil, which I think works. If you could say that music is “from a character’s perspective,” this music is from Finn’s perspective, thrown back violently and helpless forced to watch as Rey gives in to hate.

The chorus in this rendition of DotF totally reminds me of the moment Luke snaps against Vader in RotJ. Which has the same effect of giving the scene a feeling of sadness and defeat as the hero gives in to the dark side.

The crackling of Rey’s saber only makes this implication more apparent.

This video explains perfectly why i can’t enjoy this movie with the 'Rey palpatine" plot

Great video. Probably not for this edit, but I wonder how feasible the idea of having C3PO translate the dagger on Pasaana and completely cutting Kijimi from the movie is. I think the biggest issue you’d run in to is Chewie. I don’t know that it’s feasible to completely remove him from the rest of the movie.

I tried re-balancing the audio mix so that the Kylo and Rey themes are more pronounced than the DOTF. Hopefully it makes the score feel less at-war with itself. Does it work any better, or is this still a case of “less is more”?

I think too much happens on Kijimi to get cut entirely. Lame fetch quest aside, this is the first part of the movie where things almost slow down enough for us to get some characterization for our main cast, for them to reflect on what’s happened so far (including a mention of Crait, which is some much-needed continuity and as much setup as we’ll get for the fleet at the end) and what lies ahead. Then after that, we get Kylo and Rey’s confrontation, which is easily the most visually interesting and memorable part of the movie. This is also where Hux gets his send-off and we learn the identity of the spy from the movie’s beginning, and while the sequence is certainly rushed, its absence would definitely confuse audience members as Hux is just mysteriously not in the second half of the movie.

And that’s all without even getting to the biggest point of the scene: the whole “Rey Palpatine” thing, where, Rey Nobody or not, we need a scene that explains why Palpatine wants Rey and why Rey will struggle with her emotions against Palpatine later.

Oh, yeah, and if you cut all of Kijimi, the movie becomes laughably short compared to the other Star Wars movies.

Yeah I was thinking that it would make the movie more like an epilogue more than a proper episode, which personally I’d be fine with. The other points are good though, and again it’s probably not a discussion for this thread.

Spotted weird mistake on Ajan Kloss, Poe’s X-Wing on the Resistance Base set only appears to have 1 s-foil either side when it should be 2 by 2,

The image doesn’t work, but are you aware that the s-foils of the sequel X-wings lie one behind the other instead of stacked on top of each other?

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Yeah I know, the set build is just proportioned weirdly / different from before, theres also a oddly small Falcon on Takodanna in TFA aswell.

So apparently that animation is already finished, too. By Petrovelly (says so in description). But only viewable on their SubscribeStar. Doubt they are willing to share it, either.
IMO just kinda sucks that this fan editing community’s manpower is being divided because the Fixing Disney Star Wars team is using financial contributions.
EDIT: I realize they likely wouldn’t be able to create that Mustafar shot without that money, but it still seems kinda scummy imo.

I signed up just to see that clip. I applaud them for the effort, but rest assured that what we have looks better.

If you want to see it, PM me.

Something I’ve been thinking about a lot which I haven’t seen anyone else discussing: would it be in any way possible to replace Leia’s lightsaber with Luke’s green one?

The whole thing about Leia training to be a Jedi (and the floating CGI head Billie-Lourd-Leia flashback) feels so out of character and wrong to me. Plus, the green would cause a change in overall lighting colour during the final confrontation with Palpatine, just as the balance of power changes, which appeals to me thematically as Rey representing all the different Jedi.

Also, extremely excited for Rey Nobody.

Part of me feels that Rey holding the lightsabers of the two Skywalkers who helped shaped her to be the Jedi she now is -
holding their legacy against the man who ruined their lives - is more symbolic and meaningful.

It is also symbolic of if Anakin (Skywalker saber) had stood by Mace (purple lightsaber) to reflect the lightning back at Palpatine. It’s about correcting the mistakes of the past.
