The Kenobi Movie Show (Spoilers) — Page 11

The only way they will conceivably be remade is when Disney loses the copyright for the franchise, and it is a public domain IP.

But personally, I think the Saga is pretty great as it is. Its perceived imperfections are part of what makes them special, at least to me. Even if it was remade, no one will ever agree what is “proper” or not. Some might like the prequels or sequels remade, but then you would have a group of old timers who would see it as sacrilege to remake the original trilogy. It can never be done more “properly” than as it is now, so it will never satisfy everyone, in my opinion. With that in mind, why not try to appreciate the films for what they are?

Now saying that, I think it would be cool to eventually have comic book adaptions or new novels of the whole saga made in the context of the whole saga, with some slight liberties made to make the episodes more cohesive, possibly. But new movies that are just remakes of the old movies? Everyone who was alive when the OT was released would have to be dead before I can fathom that actually happening, when it is not as sacred anymore.

I don’t think I’ll live to see the end of Star Wars, so I’ll take all I can get before I die.

It depends on how old you are. I think I will. This Disney thing will not last long.

Won’t last long? How long do you think? Give me your prediction or best guess.

To clarify, remakes aren’t happening while George is around. There’s been enough speculation about a no OOT release clause in the Disney deal. There could just as easily be a no remakes clause?

Something about clauses in the contract regarding what they can and can’t do after they bought it never sounded right to me. Maybe it’s more of just a personal agreement between George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy? Would Disney care about that sort of thing? Not sure, but it’s as likely as them signing a contract that didn’t give them full control.

Maybe I’m just too pessimistic about the subject, but they haven’t released the Unaltered Original Trilogy for no other reason than none of them care.

They will remake or release whatever will make them money, and they’ll do it at the time it will make the most money. If we aren’t getting it, then the time isn’t right for them. It’s not about George or even us.

It all depends on how badly they wanted Star Wars? Disney tried to buy the Muppets when Jim Henson was still around, but they wanted the Sesame Street characters too. Jim said no, and that was that. They eventually got Kermit and the gang after Henson’s passing, but never got Big Bird and Elmo.

Hopefully so mate - the story has been picked and run by a few differing outlets now too.

Ether way, I imagine a fair few more people will now be keeping an eye on events at D23…

Ok, first of all; that Pooh film is fantastic. I’ve watched it twice. (Not kidding).

Second; FFS, I just made a post about there being two TV series on the horizon - and then I read this. Back in a moment…

Since Disney has said they’re putting the film side on extended hiatus, I can see them going with a Kenobi series. They’re rolling out a streaming service so this would make perfect sense. Plus there seems to be a huge audience for it who’ve been waiting and wondering for several years. I’m a little surprised this wouldn’t get a go before the Cassian series. Ben is a beloved figure on both sides of the fan base.

I’m very excited for this. Disney+ is going to be huge. Great time to be a Star Wars fan!

More doesn’t always equal better.

I’d rather them make new movies and shows than make none at all. Also, I’ve loved the new movies and animated series, and the footage I’ve seen from The Mandalorian looks excellent, so I don’t see the trend of me enjoying things ending anytime soon.

I’ve wanted a live-action Star Wars series since I was a kid watching the original Battlestar Galactica. Ewan McGregor was one of the bright spots of the prequels. Sounds like a really great idea to me. I’m even more looking forward to the Cassian Andor series. He’s a really great character.

It could be bad, but even if it is, I’d rather they tried than didn’t. I have a feeling these new projects will be better than the Holiday Special and Ewok movies. Star Wars was just fine after those, even though they weren’t the best, so I’m sure everything will be fine.

Well, it’s official. Ewan’s back, shooting next year. Couldn’t be happier honestly.

The vagueness of that tweet has me worried that this may not be a series ABOUT Obi Wan, but just that he’s in it, maybe just a cameo. I’m probably being dumb, though.

It makes me sad because this could have been a great feature film on its own and finally been the “space western” George talked about-because it fits right into the great tradition of dark classical Westerns with a post-war tarnished former soldier figure at the center of it whether in a tale of redemption or a quest of sorts. Or at least that’s how I would have done it!

I presume the series will be Kenobi centric but there could be episodes that focus on others. Best case scenario we get something as good as the LAST OF THE JEDI book series but I doubt it. (Even there Obi-Wan disappears after the first two books) It seems the KENOBI novel (which is excellent!) is pretty much very similar to the movie we would have gotten anyway.

An episode or two focusing on Beru and Owen and the perils of moisture farming might be interesting.

If the series covers the middle years of Obi Wan’s exile we’d get Luke and possibly Biggs as kids. I’m sure those two got into all sorts of trouble. Maybe we’d even see Watto at some point.
