No offense but AI is atrocious. It looks like a cartoon or a painting.

You know that movie is stuck in 480p, right ? So what you see here is the best result I could get at the moment with AI technology. IMHO it looks better in motion than the best official source. Look for comparison screenshots between the two in the first post.

I’m fully aware. My comment was based on the screenshots – ESPECIALLY that last 2 shots. Holy Hell. It’s wax.

New Lucas interview 2: 'Insists Unaltered Versions Of The OT Will Never Be Released'

I thought this deserved its own thread, rather than posting it digitalfreaknyc’s New Lucas interview - the originals “look terrible” thread, as it is a different topic being discussed by George Lucas doing the media rounds at Cannes, for his honorary award.

George Lucas “I think a film belongs to its creator. When Michelangelo made the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, he looked at it and said: I’m going to redo this part.”

A ScreenRant article on the subject:

George Lucas Defends The Star Wars Special Editions, Insists Unaltered Versions Of The OT Will Never Be Released

Many of the comments in the Star Wars Underworld twitter thread makes some very good points, and the majority are wanting the theatrical cuts to be released, or are calling George out for him comments.

There really was no reason to create another thread. They’re about the same exact thing.

Lucas also defended his decision to go back and “clean up” his original trilogy, using new digital technology to make the film look the way he always wanted it to.

“I’m a firm believer that the director, or the writer, or the filmmaker should have a right to have his movie be the way he wants it,” says Lucas. Fans hoping for a 4K restored version of the original 1977 Star Wars shouldn’t hold their breath.

“We did release the original one on laserdisc and everybody got really mad, they said ‘It looks terrible.’ And I said ‘Yeah, I know it did,'” said Lucas. “That is what it looked like.”

I can’t roll my eyes hard enough.

The 1080p version is designed for a BD25, if you keep only the English audio and one or two dubs.

The 2160p version is over 40GB just for the video.

Any recommendations for BD50 blanks?

For this one? Verbatim M-disc. It’s gonna be passed down like a family heirloom.

Until version 3.2. 😃

I copied it to a network HDD dock and took a look at it… and I hate to be the first to complain about this amazing piece of work, but it looks like the grain was scrubbed and then fake grain was added.
Was that the 4k source or am I hallucinating?

Thank you for saving me the trouble of downloading. I’ll stick with D+83.

For those unable to detect the snark, D+83 (OTD83) uses the same sources as Despecialized, with the same issues. If you’re happy with OTD83, you’ll be delighted with Despecialized.

No snark intended. I just don’t feel the need to have fake grain added to the picture. I’ll stick with D+83 unless I see some screencaps that sway me otherwise.

For anyone who loved this series as much as I did, it’s on sale on iTunes right now for $5.99 (down from $12.99).

There is a ‘Icons Unearthed: Star Wars’ companion book coming out in May:

https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/icons-unearthed-peter-holmstrom/1141939366

There are not many details and seems expensive $28 US. But I hope there is more stories and information from the cast and crew that featured in the series. And maybe even some updates too.

Yep. Their company (Nacelle) is coming out with two other books next year that might be of interest to people here.

  1. One is on the radio dramas: A Wind to Shake the Stars: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B8BJZ5LD/?coliid=I359QU1JNQ3NC1&colid=H7HTKBYC5QTS&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

  2. The other is on Indiana Jones: It’s Not the Years, It’s the Mileage: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B8BG696Q/?coliid=ILSNM5O9Y2NRQ&colid=H7HTKBYC5QTS&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

I’m assuming they’ve collected so many interviews with people who have worked on both that I wouldn’t be surprised if they threw them into these 3 books. ALSO, I wouldn’t be surprised if the next Icons Unleashed is about Indiana Jones to tie in with the new film (and that book).

Sea of Love (1995) - DVD/Blu-ray here
and here are three deleted scenes totaling 6 minutes. The three additional scenes add up to only 8 minutes, so I’m wondering if it’s only two.

If anyone has any of these DVD/Blu-ray’s and can verify these releases, please feel free to share them here.

One particular VHS for Sea of Love (that I posted to myspleen) has an extended version that’s never been released.

I don’t see any problem with not wanting to work with your ex. Seems like a natural thing for a human being.

I find it a little ironic that she apparently left George because he wouldn’t stop making movies, but now she thinks it’s unfortunate that she wasn’t brought in to do the prequels.

Still, it would’ve been interesting to see what impact she might’ve had on the prequels.

In what way did she “fix” ROTJ?

watch the doc. It’s absolutely worth it, especially the Jedi episode

Just watched that 4th episode.

Wow. That’s all I have to say. To all of it.

Very much this, and also The 5th episode of the series too. Some interesting views and opinions in it on the Special Edition and Phantom Menace films. Just 1 more episode still to be shown.

Everyone seems to be too busy salivating over L&M to talk about this. I find it far more interesting.

There’s no way they’re getting that price, never mind that I’m sure they have no idea if the tape still works. However, there must be more of these around. Why have they never turned up?
