THX WOW! New 4K Fan Edit and Special Edition Versions (Released)
Time

Thanks for updating this. I love this demo so very much.

A couple of things, though.

It really would be awesome if you used true 4k sources once Indy comes out this summer. I know it’s heresy to say but I’m not a fan of using the scans unless absolutely necessary. There’s just so much more detail in the actual 4k scans.

We really should work on getting a scan of that THX trailer that ends the regular trailer. The one you used for the non-SE is nice but it’s definitely no replacement for the original.

Thanks again for doing this. Don’t want to come across as unappreciative!

Kim Simmons "Star Wars Photography" kickstarter book
Time

Is anyone backing this? I was really excited about it until I saw the prices. The bare minimum for just the (regular edition) book is $125, with the Special Edition $300. I missed out on Volume 1 and the only way to get both is by pledging $650.

Just insane. Dude has overcharged for his stuff for years, which is supremely disappointing. I’d love to back it and I’m a collector of books but this is ridiculous.

Such sad news.

One thing that I, selfishly, immediately thought about was a conversation I had with him that was, I believe, sent through PM on facebook. He has videotape copies of the SW workprint in his storage. Not sure if it’s B&W or what but he said he had it.

I wonder what is going to happen to his archives now.

And I was selfishly thinking about his upcoming Bob Penn ALIEN book.

By “SW workprint” you mean he has/had videotape copies of “The Lost Cut”?

Correct.

Dealing with People Selling Fan Projects

Was this link posted?

It’s a “store” selling it.

Link to website removed by moderator - let’s not give them the publicity they wish for.

(though they were no longer selling Despecialized Editions when I checked earlier - which is good news 😃 )

They’re absolutely still selling it. In fact, it’s the ONLY thing that they’re selling.

Digital OT owners switched to Disney+ versions without consent?

That would be interesting to hear the outcome of.

But I suspect the outcome will be “this is the only version that exists and it was never different because we’re Disney”

My main goal is just to raise awareness of this issue. I own a newspaper, have my own national TV show, etc, so I know I’m in a better position than most to raise a stink. Look at it like this: what if Prime Video, Vudu, Itunes, etc had sold Star Wars theatrical editions back in '06 when the limited edition DVDs came out, but years later they were allowed to change them to the special editions without your permission? It’s a very dangerous precedent and while most would assume Vudu’s TOS would give them great leeway here, shockingly, it actually doesn’t. I thought for sure they would have their ass covered in their TOS and couldn’t believe it only stated they had the right to remove access to your purchased content for a limited time.

99% of people won’t care, even if you raise a stink.

Idea: Preservation of the uncensored (theatrical) audio track of 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade'?

What Jesse Owens line?

https://indianajones.fandom.com/wiki/Jesse_Owens

“Jesse Owens was supposed to be mentioned in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade with the Butler’s original line before Jones knocks him out as “If you are a Scottish lord then I am Jesse Owens!” It was changed to Mickey Mouse because the filmmakers thought that many people would be unfamiliar with who Jesse Owens was. The line as originally intended is retained in the film’s novelization.”

The line on the story CD is “Mae West.”

In the theatrical version of Last Crusade, when Donovan is trying to convince the Sultan of Hatay to allow him to move across his land to recover the Grail, he brings the Sultan a chest of gold treasures and says, “Precious valuables, Your Highness, “donated” by some of the finest Jewish families in all of Germany.”
In all subsequent releases of the movie, the word “Jewish” is removed.

They simply muted the audio for the duration of the word, which is why there now is a pause between “finest” and “families”.

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have access to a theatrical print of Last Crusade?

I think you’re mis-remembering. I don’t think it was ever included. It might have just been in a novelization or comic book.

Movies aren’t coming out, and some movies have halted shooting/production. So I just see it for what it is, a corporate cash grab. Logically 3 days won’t make a difference, but then gain logically why do this at all.

Make no mistake, this was a promotional move. They actually had it on the news last night as a full story. Websites have it as a story.

Releasing it early gives them free publicity when there’s nothing else to talk about in the entertainment world.

Are you saying child actors are cheaper than adult actors? 😄

Peter Suschitzky’s cinematography in TESB is one tough act to follow.

Alan Hume actually walked out because he didn’t like how GL was treating Marquand. Alec Mills took over for the last month of production.

I’d genuinely like to know more about these.

With the exception of Warwick Davis, I think most of the Ewoks were played by adults. Child labor laws would have made the shoot even more difficult if all the Ewoks were children.

I know that it’s reddit but someone just posted this in another thread.

Now seeing the listings for the special features on Amazon, it’s even worse than i feared. So most of the special features for the PT & OT will be in Standard def and it’s all what we have already got before. When Disney digitised the archive they uncovered a lot of great stuff, showing snippets on reels at celebration etc. But this is what they are giving us?

I always said that theoretical “huge boxed set with the kitchen sink” was a huge lie.

Apparently the bonus features here clock in the same as the ones included in the digital collection versions. So the only thing new here are the films in 4K (though really even that isn’t new considering they’ve been on Disney+ for months).

Gonna be a no for me.

Same here. First time I’ve ever NOT bought these movies on a new format. What an incredible f*** up.

I said no in 2011 without hesitation, I will say no again in 2020 without hesitation.

The only reason I got that set is because of the deleted scenes. Now there’s no reason.
