George Lucas was admitted into the Academy of Achievement in 1989, however, two interviews of him were conducted for the academy in '95 and '99. Lucas’s remarks about fan-editing are in fact from 1995, 6 years later than previously thought, however, still showcase a remarkable level of foresight and imagination.

So far I love the show. The portrayal of Sabine is EXCELLENT!

Does anyone else get the sense that Ahsoka seems like one of the least interesting aspects of the show so far? Maybe it’s just because I feel like all of the other aspects shine so bright, but to be honest, I think Rosario Dawson’s portrayal seems a little dull compared to how we’ve seen Ahsoka in other series. Maybe that’s on purpose? This version of Ahsoka seems a bit more jaded after everything she’s been through. It seems like she has a lot of growing to do in terms of being a master and as a person. Maybe Sabine will bring back her more lively and youthful optimism? I hope so…

There are some quotes from George and Lucasfilm on fan editing, and also a lot about The Phantom Edit in oojason’s Star Wars Fan Edit Index, in “The Phantom Edit(s) - a catalyst for Star Wars fan edits…” section.

I’ve only read some of it, but it appears he/Lucasfilm were okay with it.

I’ve pretty much decided that the “Machete order” is the way I’m going to show my partner Star Wars for the first time. I think I’ve settled on showing her the L8wrtr edits for the prequels…

What do you think, is it appropriate to show a fanedit to a first time viewer of the prequels? I kind of think it’s weird, but necessary. 😂

So recently I watched the films in the so called “machete-order” (4,5,1,2,3,6), and honestly, I think this is THE best way to watch the films. Return of the Jedi is, as many have already pointed out, not a great follow-up to “Empire”. Yet watching “Return” after “Sith” is honestly super engaging. The opening of “Return” (Obi, Yoda and Luke stuff) gives you a nice recap of what you’ve just seen in the prequels, and it makes a lot of the themes in the series seem super clear. For example, the Ewoks taking down the Empire seems like a wonderful middle finger to the Emperor after seeing how evil he was in the Prequels, but more importantly, the idea of Palpatine manipulating Anakin to turn to the dark side for the sake of saving the people that he loved, is the exact same thing that he tempts Luke with. It also makes Luke seem really smart, but flawed, because he takes the opportunity to grab his saber and strike down the Emperor, to instead, fight Vader and try to convince him to turn to the light. Of course, Vader tempts Luke with the very thing that the Emperor tempted both of them with by threatening to turn Leia to the dark-side. Of course, Luke almost kills Vader, but at the last moment decides to show him mercy and not give into that same fear which got them all into this mess in the first place. In conclusion, the story of redemption becomes abundantly clear when watching the series in this order. I highly recommend!

Love the photos, and yes, that makes sense. I tried to do some research on the Academy Achievement interview to fact check if it really was '89, but I can’t seem to find confirmation. Anyways, I still think his foresight is very impressive even if the interview was taken just before or around TPM’s production.

Many people credit Dave Filoni for “saving Anakin Skywalker’s character”, by making him more likeable in The Clone Wars animated series. In Dave’s own words, he asked George Lucas if his Anakin could be “a combination of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo”. However, it was actually originally George’s idea to portray him as more charming and heroic. I’d like to put forth the idea that the way Anakin is portrayed in this series, is actually part of George’s overall imagining of the saga, and that one of the reasons for the creation of this series was that he had a similar perspective to a lot of fans. The idea that we only get a glimpse of Anakin and Obi-Wan as good friends in the films, and that there is a large gap from Anakin Skywalker in AOTC to ROTS, both come from George’s mouth. I especially appreciate his explanation of the creation of Ahsoka Tano, and how she brings out a more “human” and mature side of Anakin Skywalker. Ultimately, it was Filoni’s execution of these ideas which made the series work, so of course he deserves credit where it is due. However, the more you realize just how involved George was in this series, the more you realize that The Clone Wars is essential viewing for understanding the entire saga.

Point taken. If you watch the Sequel Trilogy I guess I would concur. However I think if you watch the Prequels and take into account the Hero’s Journey life lessons from the OT, you can actually make many comparisons to what we’re dealing with today.

Wanted to include this link here for Hal. In this deleted scene, General Tagge exclaims the phrase ”Sith Lord” all the way back in ‘77. With some cleanup it would be a fine addition to the collection.

I’m actually a fan of mixing the soundtracks between the trilogy as I feel it makes the entire saga feel more congruent. But only when it fits and works, and doesn’t mess with a soundtrack that’s like, super iconic.

Like, rescoring basically anything in Cloud City or Mustafar, for example, would be a big no. But one example I really liked was when IlFanEditore for his ANH edit added the track that plays when Yoda senses Anakin’s pain in AOTC after his mother dies to the part in ANH where the Millennium Falcon lands on the Death Star and Vader investigates it (mostly because of it’s subtle imperial march tone and the mysterious vibe to it) and I think it really worked. I also love how Ady added x to the Imperial meeting in ANH:R SD.

Ah yes! The “Palpatine’s Teachings” addition to ANH:R is absolutely fantastic. However, having the Imperial March in ANH is definitely a no for me. I’d love to see IlFanEditore’s addition though.

Since this is a ROTJ discussion, I know that the music at the end of the film is definitely up for debate. Of course we have the original and special addition tracks. But could there be a third track that we could use that may be superior to both? I came across this video awhile back which might spark an idea or two.

Not to completely change the topic, but Darthrush in his “Return of the Jedi: Remastered” edit, adds a beautiful John Williams cue from Revenge of the Sith (Anakin’s Dream) into Luke’s conversation with Ben on Dagobah. Now, I’m usually against faneditors changing musical cues in their SW edits, but the addition of this track takes an otherwise bland scene (dare I say) and gives it some much needed emotional weight.

If you go back and watch that scene, the soundscape is almost completely empty for when Ben starts talking about Anakin.
