Isn’t it simple? In the prequels, Obi-Wan was a Jedi Knight who served the Republic. Bail Organa was a member of the Galactic Senate. Thus, “You served my father in the Clone Wars”, is a perfectly fine line. What exactly is the debate?

The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy is a political satire about current and very real threats to Democracy which exist in our world. The Original Trilogy deals with empires, weapons of mass destruction, super-villains, and the power of ordinary people. George’s films have always been a guide for me in terms of how I see the world. I’ve always taken the lessons that I’ve learned from the films and applied them to my personal life. A belief in something larger than oneself, the dangers of fear, and the hope that a brighter future exists for all are just a few things which I know many others on this site have been profoundly impacted by. In these insane times, I’d like to hear some thoughts from you all about what you have learned from Star Wars. Perhaps your words may bring me or someone else some consolation. MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU.

Absolutely. I’d say that the final entry should have been primarily about the First Order losing power from within, as their kidnapped troops were won over by the actions of Finn and Rose. That TROS casually murders these troops offscreen in the final scenes of the movie is the dagger in the back of the entire sequel trilogy.

That was when I truly realized that this was a movie with nothing artistically worthy to say. The mimicking of the ROTJ celebration and the crashing of the ships was hands down one of the most disappointing moments I have ever had at the movies. I asked myself two things; “what am I actually supposed to take away from this movie?” and “what was the point of being invested in the story in the first place if the conclusion feels like a complete cop-out?”. I actually really hate revisiting the way I felt sitting in that movie theater loll. But as someone who loves films and who wants to be a storyteller, I can’t thank the ST enough. Because its mere existence both inspired me, and made me invested in filmmaking as a whole. Despite my complaints with the story itself, it was a blast over the last few years hanging out on this site and talking about something that I love.

I love Mando, but I can’t wait to dive deeper into the other characters. I’m most excited to learn about Giancarlo’s character and his development to be honest.

It may be weird to post this on a primarily Star Wars site, but you guys are literally editing geniuses and i need some help.

Problems: I think the pacing of this is a bit slow, the music choices may be a bit dull, and I’m lacking graphics/visual statistics. I’m going to try and teach myself after-effects in a day tomorrow LOL. We’ll see. If anybody is actually interested that would great, if not, thats ok too.

Ahsoka is a great character, there’s no doubt about that. Seeing the prequels through the lense of her and Rex is just gold. Nobody can deny that after watching that CW finale. I very much enjoyed her in Rebels too.

If she shows up in any other piece of Star Wars, as long as Filoni is writing (which he will be because he is very protective of her), then it’s going to be great.

I agree with some of the statements above, because I really want to stop seeing characters that we’ve seen a hundred times before. Mandalorian is a leap in the right direction, because it’s not directly connected to anything within the Skywalker Saga. However it needs to get wierder, and i mean that in a good way. The stranger, and the less familiar, the better.

I don’t want to see Ahsoka in Mando season 2 (I also still believe that it’s just a rumor), because her character needs to be used sparingly. If we see her in this show I feel like we’re shrinking Star Wars down again. That’s the last thing we pretty much all want.

I think the Jedi in the trailer is most likely there to throw us off. Inside the universe its only really been 5 years since the downfall of the empire. I don’t think there are any Jedi besides Luke. I’m guessing she is an agent of Moff Gideon. Inquistor???

Hi guys. So I’m shooting a short film this weekend. It’s called “Mellow Dream”, and I feel like this is a good place for honest advice/feedback. I’ve had the idea for about a year now and I’ve just been in the process of realizing I’m never going to get anywhere unless I start somewhere. I’ll be sure to post it when it’s finished. It’s only 2 days of outdoor shooting. One day at a park, and another in the subways of New York. (Masks will be worn lol!) So the shooting day is this Saturday. Any last minute advice you guys can give me for when I’m on set???

I’d recommend watching the series again. Or at least Smudger9’s edit where he combines the first season into 1 film. The first time I watched the series I must admit I thought it was honestly just ok. But recently rewatching it I’ve come to appreciate a lot of the subtle storytelling. Mando and what he calls “the way” are completely deconstructed throughout the entire season. He really learns through Kuill and Baby Yoda that there actually CAN be another way to live. That violence and covering up who you are don’t have to be the answer to everything.

I understand your point of view, but I seriously think on closer examination you can get a lot from the storytelling in Mando. Filoni and Favreau know what they’re doing (I think). I pretty much feel like it’s the opposite of Rogue One. Like R1 was incredible the first time, and then you rewatch it, and it’s hard to enjoy the story itself on a deeper level.

Even a little bit planning would have gone along way, even if they’d end up changing a lot. Of course changes will be made, but look at what they did to my boy Finn!!! When you don’t have a plan, best case scenario is you avoid lost potential, worst case scenario is you lose a lot of potential! (Finn) *cough. Ugh, i’m sad. I like that they originally chose 3 different directors, but 3 different writers without a plan? Eesh. They ended up doubling down on everything that was wrong with this trilogy from the start. (And I loved TFA and TLJ).

I read “The Making of STAR WARS” book over the summer and it was just so humbling to read about George as a young man trying to create his space opera. The inspiration came from a place of optimism during the pessimistic 1970’s. He wanted to create a myth for young people after their positive reaction to American Graffiti. George says in his Charlie Rose interview that Lucasfilm was losing money, and he had employees to think about. Honestly it sounds like he was coming from a place of fear, even when he started to think about this new trilogy. My point is, the initial reasoning behind creating the ST came from a place of “we need a story to make money” rather than a place of singular inspiration.

On the bright side, my young cousins experiencing star wars for the first time with this trilogy really love it. They can’t see through the cynical cracks like we can.

I have been a big defender of the Sequel Trilogy for a while, as I loved The Force Awakens and especially loved The Last Jedi. However, I didn’t like how The Rise of Skywalker turned out, and it unfortunately sank the trilogy’s narrative a bit for me. I will say that I personally hate fan service, and while it can be used in the right way, it can also tank the narrative and quality of a film. The film had very rushed pacing and couldn’t even stand still and let the audience take in what is happening. Part of me believes that the majority of decisions were not done by J.J. Abrams. Even if some of them were, it surprises me just how bad IX turned out compared to his great work on VII. Palpatine’s return was clearly a case of breaking the glass in case of an emergency since Rian Johnson killed off Snoke, and even their origins and return were not explained well. The opening went by too fast, and it makes me even more disappointed that Lucasfilm is not releasing the deleted scenes in an effort to avoid fan criticism for cutting them. Rey being Palpatine’s granddaughter was poorly done and unnecessary, Finn as a character was wasted, and even his reveal to Rey wasn’t fully resolved in the story. The Jedi speaking to Rey didn’t really grab me, and felt kinda corny based on how it was done to once again, appease fans. Ben’s character, after being redeemed, was completely wasted, as we never spent enough time with him. Palpatine’s plan wasn’t very clear, and his death was terribly done, especially in comparison to Return of the Jedi. However, I was pretty mad at how Ben’s story was wasted by killing him off. There could have been so many great stories to tell with him, but his death wasn’t rewarding. Anakin had lived a full life and had done so much, Ben had not, and he is completely glossed over and doesn’t even appear with Luke and Leia.

Overall, I wanted to at least show my own voice on the film. I, like many were disappointed, but even though there wasn’t a plan, I still think you could’ve made a great conclusion to the trilogy, not the saga. My last complaint for here would have to be how rushed the film felt to cap off the entire saga, when it would’ve been better to focus on ending the trilogy, not the saga. Many got excited for a fourth trilogy, but after The Last Jedi came out, most people seemed to want it to end rather than continue it. Real shame.

Anyways, those are just my thoughts. I hope some great fan edits can come out of it.

I feel very similar in terms of appreciating TFA and TLJ for what they were, and also staying away a bit due to the extreme toxicity.

More than just saying “I wish they stuck with Trevorrow”, I think you really touched on an important point how this movie felt like damage control. Everyone knows at this point that they didn’t plan out the trilogy, but I think if they stuck with their guns, and stayed true to giving each director their own personal unique take on how to progress the story forward, this film would have been much more successful. It all comes back to what Lucas always tried to preach about the “fear of creativity” on the part of the industry itself. And even though it is his fault that he sold his franchise, he is completely right. What is upsetting to me is that I personally enjoyed TLJ compared to TFA so much because it felt so creatively free. But then Lucasfilm turned right back around and got cold feet. But that was most likely due to “fan response”, so who really is the one at fault???

At some point I’d like to try a WAR OF THE STARS II style edit of the sequel trilogy as one film. A hyper stylized version in which we can play around with time and mix and match different scenes from TFA and TROS. With the events of TLJ being the conclusion of the story, plus an epilogue of the force vision scene with Ben and Han to finish it all out. Also I’d like to just go crazy with flashbacks and interesting music choices. Maybe some synths, and fan made orchestral themes? Oh right, and have it all be Kylo centric.

L8wrtr’s Prequel edits for sure. They cut out more runtime than most other edits, and he makes the narrative very concise and tonally consistent.
