I was really impressed with this one. Mayfeld’s musings and the Officer’s philosophy were obvious highlights, which, given that they were well-written dialogue scenes, was a pleasant surprise. Thought the seismic charge was a little fan-servicey, but not overtly so.

No idea why Mando sent Gideon that message though.

The thing this episode made me realize about Boba Fett is that - even though he’s already a really famous character whose return was highly anticipated - we don’t actually know much about him as a person. We knew him as a child/young-teenager, but now he’s a 40-year-old played by a 60-year-old (that dang twin-sun radiation is at it again) and the show is kind of just assuming that we already know what he’s all about…

In this case, it’s not just twin-sun radiation, it’s also Sarlaac Juice

You hire the man who made Spy Kids, you get what you paid for. While last season’s AT-ST vs farmers episode resembled Hercules & Xena in plot, this was the closest we’ve come to that in production quality. Everything before the stormtroopers showed up was pretty good, although getting to Tython was way too rushed, but once the action started, it was pretty bad.

Star Wars: Squadrons - video game
Time

Played for the first time last night, only did the Prologue and the first Republic mission, but so far it’s a very good X-Wing sequel, updated for modern times. Funny to see actual characters on screen, having pseudo-conversations with you between missions, instead of X-Wing Alliance’s emails. They’ve simplified the controls (see this vs this ), but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, and feels important for a modern audience. I mean, how often did I need to cut all power to shields just to get a little extra out of my laser recharge rate? This game’s way of doing things is fine.

I suspect that the Thrawn mention will come into play next season. Wouldn’t surprise me if we don’t see Ahsoka again until then.

Upon reflection, I was really impressed how this episode felt like every kind of Star Wars coming together in a unified whole and not feeling disjointed. PT (Clone Wars, Corouscant), OT (Yoda, explaining the Force, McQuarrie-ism), ST (the village, the guards), cartoons (Ahsoka, Thrawn), and EU (Thrawn, imperial remnants, Tython): it all felt like it belonged together.

Will be interesting to see how and when they get to Tython, and how that affects the show. It’s a Core World iirc, and this show has been very based in one corner of the Outer Rim. If we assume that S2 will conclude with dark troopers & Gideon, possibly with a kidnapping Grogu cliffhanger, then S3 is set up for traveling to Tython.

How did the village and the guards remind you of the ST exactly? Just outta curiosity.

Fair question. Although we saw some on Tatooine in TPM & AOTC, I feel like average street scenes with townspeople and vendors make me think of the ST. The guards voices reminded me of Kylo Ren’s mask voice, and the way that their uniforms represented a sort of Empire-reimagined (similar insignia & weapons, but localized and altered) gave me ST vibes.

What is the worst thing in the EU?

I’ve only had limited experience with the EU but I’d be surprised if there was anything worse then The Crystal Star. I can also vaguely recall a novel where Luke falls in love with a ghost or something.

Children of the Jedi is a gem and you will not speak ill of it.

I have just read the Wikipedia (yes, wiki) summary of it and its sequels. They include

 • Luke falling in love with a ghost living inside a computer, who later gains a body
 • A big cylindrical superweapon called the “Darksaber”
 • Luke fighting the same Wampa from ESB, and its friends
