ANDOR - Disney+ Series - A General Discussion Thread
Time

" No I know exactly what they mean. While the OT is very clear cut with the Rebels vs Empire conflict and frequently lighthearted, the PT has a more complex war where the ‘bad guys’ have terrible military leaders but are mostly made up of systems seeking self-determination, while the rise of Palpatine shows how dictators can manipulate a conflict to gain power. These kind of adult themes were completely absent from the OT. "

Gotta strongly disagree on these points ^ … while those systems in the PT are made up of systems seeking self determination ,we are merely told this and not shown it ,we never see these disaffected ordinary citizens in those movies . Those disaffected citizens are shown in the OT…they are the members of the rebellion who joined to fight the tyranny and oppression of the Empire as a consequence of those events .I wouldn’t say those adult themes are completely absent from the OT ,for instance " How will the Emperor maintain control without the bureaucracy? Governor Tarkin: The regional governors now have direct control over their territories. Fear will keep the local systems in line ,fear of this battle station " Clearly showing a dictator manipulating a conflict or event to STAY in power ,which has real world implications in our “adult” world.

anyway , I am enjoying Andor and am glad to see the show delving into these disaffected citizens and a deeper look at the genesis of the rebellion .

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

Random thought / observation …nearly every prequel rewrite or idea I come across still uses characters that were created for the movies that came out between 1999 and 2005 . Darth Maul , Grievous , Dooku , Qui Gon, etc . Be nice to see a rewrite or idea using original characters as well as the ones from the OT that would logically carry over …

Icons Unearthed - new 6 part documentary on the OT (VICE)

can someone upload this?can´t watch it…😦

The first episode is now on youtube , here you go …https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Hmp5-VT6cs also , if you go to the Vice TV website and look under shows , you can view the other 2 episodes there , just choose the free pass option , which gives you 30 minutes viewing time . I know the episodes are a bit longer but you get up to 3 free passes and you don’t have to sign up . The way I did it was to watch 30 minutes of an episode and then use another pass and forward the video to where I left off . Did this on separate days for each episode . I am guessing the other 2 episodes will be on youtube in the first and last part of August as well . I am enjoying it for the most part , even if the editing style of this documentary series is too over the top , Hokey and Tabloidish . That ironic humor cliche of cutting back and forth using short clips of the films for " witty " effect is way overdone these days in my opinion and I roll my eyes whenever I encounter it . I do like that there is more unseen footage and artwork snippets being shown though and between this and the ILM documentary on Disney Plus , it seems like we are getting more of the complete story on the making of the films . The Disney documentary series does the "witty " editing cliche a bit too , but the Vice series beats you over the head with it . I also didn’t appreciate how they delved into Carrie Fisher’s drug problems in the Empire episode of the Vice series either …I feel it was inappropriate and unnecessary . The Vice series needs to tone it down as the tone reads as, " Look , oh my ! such a scandal ! " I think a lot of that is down to the narrator .In spite of all that , I still think it is worth watching for the interviews with the creators of the OT and previously unknown info .

ILM - Disney+ 6 part documentary series
Time

just watched the first 2 episodes and loving it so far , like adywan said , lots of previously unseen stuff . Was surprised to learn the actual story of the design of the Falcon straight from Joe Johnston …for years I had read behind the scenes accounts in making of books , film magazines etc ,that it was based on a hamburger with an olive to the side that George Lucas was eating . The Steve Sansweet book Star Wars From Concept To Screen To Collectible was one of those sources .Turns out there was a hamburger mentioned in regards to the look of the finished model , but only after the final design was completed . And while it is great to see documentary footage and the craftsman being interviewed , Disney really needs to do the right thing and make the work of those academy award winners available and honor them by putting the original theatrical cut on the platform for all to enjoy .

Has anyone done a marathon of all the "official " films and shows ?

I did a Star Wars film marathon not so long ago. An used The Holiday Special and the two Ewok movies for when I really needed to get to sleep!

But not with the series too.

What is the running time for that, the 2003 Clone Wars series and 2008 TCW film included?

And safe bus trip. May your legroom be plenty, your set comfortable, and have no imperial entanglements (annoying loud kids!)

Thank you . Not sure of the runtime for that . I may just do the 2003 Clone Wars as part of my watch , as it has a runtime of about 2 hours , rather than all 7 seasons of The Clone Wars . Though I might slot in choice episodes of it .

Just wondering if anyone has done a marathon of all of the canon films and shows .If so , please share your experiences here . I have never done this myself , but saw a post that was made on facebook , right after Book Of Boba Fett ended , that the watch time for all of it was around 6 days and 21 hours . Bit more now with Kenobi .I have a long bus trip coming up ( about 31 hours each way ) so might see about trying to at least start one for both legs of the trip . I don’t know if I will be able to continue it when I get home though .

Tales of the Jedi (animated series) - General Discussion Thread * SPOILERS *
Time

Yeah , I was disappointed to hear this is focusing on prequel area characters too . Although , Dave Filoni is helming the show and he played a large part in bringing a lot of EU characters and concepts back into "canon " . He has also been known to play his cards close to the vest and not revealing things to the public and sometimes his own crew . I don’t think he would have used that specific title , that specific logo for this show without some kind of connection . Going by the original Tales Of The Jedi comics , the sprit of Exar Kun is still trapped in the temples of Yavin 4 in the time period this is set in …while things probably won’t play out the way they did in the EU , I could see an eventual reworking of some of the events of the Jedi academy trilogy or I Jedi , where Exar’s spirit is discovered and dealt with ,being transposed to this time , with it being these prequel era Jedi that have to deal with him .Thrawn was brought back into the current stories , so I think anything can happen .I would like to see this series get more than one season and end up heading this route and leading to something bigger . I am selective in my reading of current Star Wars books and comics and not fully up to date on "canon " , has Exar Kun been referenced at all in the modern materials ?

I am curious as to your plans to incorporate the radio drama scenes into ESB , especially the scene of Han and Luke in the tent and the opening scene . Do you have footage in mind for this or plan to shoot some of your own ?

This will be a fresh shoot since we have a full han hoth outfit and most of luke hoth, thinking alot of over the shoulder shot but will do some face ons. Plan to use deep fake or simular. We have Hamil for the voice acting here obviously and some lines from Harrison, but will need to do some audio work on solo and get and some lines for him as perry is good but not Harrison 😃 and deep fake audio for the lines if not happy with results. There are actually some talented people out there on fivr doing Solo lines so will have to see. But yea, will have to be shot in winter so probably one of the later scenes to be honest since it is spring in my location now.If this scene does not happen it’s not the end of the world as it is not a crucial scene…although does have some good lines

cool , I hope you are able to pull it off as it would be cool to see , as would the opening space battle from the radio drama

I watched the 2006 GOUT version of Return Of The Jedi yesterday and noticed something I never caught after decades of viewing this film …not a visual thing , but an audio one …at the start of the scene where Threepio tells his story in the Ewok village , a few notes of the Imperial March are played on Ewok Drums . Who’s side were they really on ? Their stomachs apparently .

I don’t think it’s supposed to be “live music”, it’s just part of the score to set the scene.

Perhaps , but while they don’t show Ewoks playing it on screen , the sound is definitely that of tribal drums playing a few notes of the march .

And face it, Threepio was pretty comic in the OT.

Face it , Threepio’s comedy in the OT was actually funny and played off the other characters in service of the story .The prequels had him resorting to bad puns and quips …" I’m beside myself ." " This is such a drag . " , " What do you mean naked ? My parts are showing ? Oh my !" etc I did like some of the early episodes of Clone Wars where Threepio was teamed up with Jar Jar though , as he was annoying ,even to Threepio . I felt that show handled Jar Jar better than the films overall .

Thanks screams in the void, but I think some things need to happen in the Prequels, other scenes could go and be replaced.

Episode II would be showing more of Anakin’s fighting and piloting skills, being more of a good friend, and have more of a personal relationship with Kenobi, hinting toward the end that this dark side lingers inside him.

I would also have it where it would be more of Kenobi’s fault for not letting Anakin get to his mother on time, and feeding this anger toward his teacher and friend.

I do think there are scenes that are good for the overall story and others, like Jar Jar and the Gungans should have been omitted and focused more on Anakin or Kenobi’s character.

I loved Shmi Skywalker, the pod race and Darth Maul, but Jar Jar and the slapstick comedy had to go, it was a waste of film (not for kiddos though)

The first film should have had a more serious tone with less comedy.

“I would also have it where it would be more of Kenobi’s fault for not letting Anakin get to his mother on time, and feeding this anger toward his teacher and friend.” Great idea that ! and I agree that ," The first film should have had a more serious tone with less comedy."

I agree they were poorly written , though I do enjoy some aspects of them . Your ideas seem interesting CarboniteSolo , though when I read them it seemed like they rely on leaving too much of the prequels intact when it comes to the antagonism between Obi - Wan and Anakin . If anything , the prequels need to play up , " And he was a good friend " from the original film and actually show us more of their friendship before things fall apart .One angle I was ok with in the prequels was Anakin as a slave , but thought it was a missed opportunity and he could have showed more resentment to the Jedi council for not helping end it and free his mom as well as all the slaves . It was something that was foreshadowed in TPM but never really followed up on . I have mentioned this elewhere , but I think him going beore the council and saying , " How can we call ourselves guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy , when we turn a blind eye to one of the most serious injustices ? " It would have gone a long way to making his turn more believable . I think you are right though , we should have started with Anakin early on . I would take it a step further and have him be around Luke’s age in the original film .Also , go with things implied from the original film more . Have Anakin start out living with the Lars on Tatooine as an ace starship mechanic and pilot . Have the clones be the Mandalorian Supercommandos from the early design phase of TE
SB . Maybe start the first film as a mirror of the opening of the original and have Kenobi fleeing from a Dreadnaught class cruiser like the ones in Zahn’s Katana Fleet , as he is fleeing it , the Dreadnaught drops a Mandalorian Starfighter out of its hangar and it pursues Kenobi to the surface of Tatooine . Kenobi’s ship takes a hit and he crash lands near the Lars Moisture Farm …they see smoke on the horizon and rush to help and the story is set in motion .Later on , reveal to the audience that a slave trade is happening on Tatooine . Maybe Anakin and The Lars family are indentured servants to one of the slave traders and it may give more plot motivation for Anakin’s turn later , among other factors .

This looks awesome Bobson , can’t wait to see the finished edit ! I started my own edit a few years back using some of the available resources at the time that conformed to the order of scenes in the Marvel comics adaptation .Only got as far as the first issue , but now I am feeling inspired to continue . Love your coloring and edits !

Yeah , maybe an amendment to the start of that thread along the lines , Thank you George , for giving us the original Movies we fell in love with and then go into the rest of it . It’s also worth mentioning , that in the initial petitions , George is shown appreciation for his efforts to evolve the saga , “While many of us appreciate and enjoy George Lucas’ creative evolution of the classic Star Wars films via the various releases of the ever-changing ‘Special Editions’, we respectfully state that there is tremendous importance in the original theatrical prints of the Star Wars Trilogy.” This info can be found at the top of the home page to this site and I highly recommend it to new members as well as those who may have misinformed ideas as to this sites purpose …https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/ReleaseTheOriginalTrilogy-OriginalTrilogy-coms-enduring-goal-How-you-can-help/id/90534
