Most people have to pay to use newsgroups. Most providers are monthly subscriptions but some - ie Astraweb - are pay as you go.

The cost there is 90GB for $25 or 25GB for $10. The 90GB package works out at arond 20 SL DVD downloads and costs less than the price of beer for a night out.

Try this guide.....

I hope this helps. Most people do not regret working out how to use the newsgroups.

Sorry to ask this, as I've probably skimmed over the post in question, but is this available anywhere outside of newsgroups?

Not that I am aware of............

The Mono Guide I referred to earlier is now available online here.

***//BUILDING EMPIRE\\: PAL & NTSC DVD - NEW EDITION NOW ONLINE! ***
Time
I got a couple of damaged files on NT-HELL. No surprises there.

They have not been too bad lately. I have not had a newsgroup issue with them for over a year now and my 90GB for 13 quid Astraweb account covers those problems. For a free service compared to most people here having their hand forced down the Premium Service route, I think we can sit here and feel quite smug with ourselves. Should they ever stick to their (alledged) 1GB/day upload/download limit I am totally screwed!!!!

Firstly, I would like to see the evolution to the FINAL release but also I would like to log the differing releases here so that people will be able to work out what version they have.

Are there any takers on this??

I´m playing on this for hours now. have a membership at astraweb and using free agent.
But I still have a question.
Is there a way to search only for the building empire release? I don´t want to search for all news on a.b.starwars.
Thanks for your help

Welcome to the big wide world of the newsgroups. Few people ever look back!!

a.b.starwars is one of the smaller binaries groups that are in use with not too many headers. If you simply get all headers/get new headers and group the headers by subject. That puts all of the files in a post together. They are then very simple to find and download.

Looking at the Astraweb server, there are currently lots of goodies still available there. My advice would be to get the older stuff first before it drops off the server BUT Building Empire is probably too hard to resist!!

A quick update on the Galactic Trade Federation website...............

Due to technical issues, I have been unable to update the site for quite a while now and it is a bit out of date.

I have got around this by temporarily uploading all the files to my ISP webspace at this temporary address.

The first phase is to add all the latest releases from all the talented folk out there and once all titles are covered, I will be going back and getting rid of all the missing info currently shown as ??????????

Titles to add include work by Dark Jedi, Rikter, ADigitalMan, OCP, Daveytod, JD, Starkiller and countless others. I will also be listing a handfull of ***NUKED*** and pre-release titles simply as an aid to people who may have the earlier versions.

You will also spot links to pages of basic details of the Laser/VHS source of the transfers. This is very much a Work In Progress at this time but will soon list all the UK and US retail releases in all formats and possibly a TV broadcast section too.

Also check out The Starkiller's Guide to the Star Wars Mono Sound Mix which is also currently on my ISP webspace. If anyone knows of anything missing from there, please let me know.

Dr. M's Reinventing The Wheel Edition (PAL to NTSC+) (Released)
Time
Is there any chance of someone posting an Idiots Guide to adding the Moth3r NTSC Mono soundtrack to Dr M ANH.

I managed to do the PAL version a while ago but am really struggling to do this one.

My perfect disc will have the existing PCM track and the Mono track too which I am sure can be done.

The file I have is from the newsgroup (I think) and is called mono_ntsc.ac3

So where does one begin................

First and foremost, one way or another, get a copy of this DVD NOW!!!! Even if it means getting on a plane, flying into Stanstead Airport UK and crawling on all fours northbound along the M11 Motorway and calling at every city, town, village and hamlet until you find Mr JD.

If you were after Deleted Magic for Empire, this DVD is not it.

If you were after Sith Revealed for Empire, this DVD is not it.

If you were after Star Wars from the Film Vaults for Empire, this DVD is not it.

However, it does combine elements from all three.

Building Empire is not a film, not a documentary and not simply a commentary either.

"What the hell is it???" you ask.

It is a combination of the best bits of all of the above done in such a way that you could watch it in place of the actual film or as a documentary/commentary as it works both ways.

I could waffle on for hours but there is no point. Just get a copy and see for yourself.

The equivalent title for Jedi is in the pipeline and I cannot wait to see that. As it is done in such a different way to Deleted Magic and others, I also hope to see a Star Wars version done in exactly the same way.

A great project might be a "hosted Star Wars" with one DVD with a choice of the clips that were shown at commercial breaks of the '84 TV airing with Mark Hamill, and the two Sci-Fi Channel airings. Did Sci-fi just do the first film, or the entire trilogy?

I am still interested in seeing this in full to see if it is an existing or different cut of the film........

I have a VHS recording of Star Wars when it was shown in 1985, I think, with the introduction by Mark Hamill. This was my copy of Star Wars that I had most of my childhood. I still think that when I get the hardware to do it, I'm going to capture it onto DVD for memories sake, being the version I grew up with. Didn't record any commercials, though.

.........have you thought any more about doing that??

The "hosted Star Wars" idea sounds pretty cool too.
