Star Wars: <strong>The Rise Of Skywalker</strong> Redux Ideas thread

  • Luke needs to survive Episode VIII.

I actually would like this, for the same reason I’d like Ben to survive. I think Luke deserves more time to redeem himself, rather than just die from over-exertion after doing one good thing. This isn’t really feasible through editing though.

  • Rey needs to be Luke’s lost daugther, that was hinted at in TFA and I still feel Kasdan and Abrams were going that way until VIII, Johnson and Kennedy derailed everything.

I absolutely hate this idea, for two reasons:

  1. Rey is more interesting as a nobody. If Rey just turned out to be another Skywalker, it would make the sequel trilogy seem boring and cliche. It’s much more ironic for a complete nobody to be the hero this time.
  2. There is zero evidence that JJ originally planned for Rey to be a Skywalker. All evidence, even before the release of TLJ, points to Rey being a nobody from the start. Terrio was the one who derailed it with his stupid Rey Palpatine reveal.

Because of that, I think Rey Nobody is the only way to go for a fan edit of the sequel trilogy. It’s by far the most interesting and thematically coherent option.

Her being a nobody is just pushing the identity politics agenda of Kennedy…

Even if you believe Star Wars is just supposed to be about the Skywalkers, there’s nothing wrong with having the last trilogy be about the influence of that family and their story. That’s still ostensibly about them.

Rey Nobody, a girl who becomes a hero from being inspired by their legend, is a meaningful way to cap off their legacy. It’s a lot better than a daughter inheriting her father’s responsibility and just seeing it through. (also why Kylo/Ben not seeing his through was interesting!)

Exactly.

To me it still is too much identity politics involved instead of a solid character arc…

…because they or some people at least figured out that they messed up and even the identity politics are not working at all.

Get over it.

We’re in a fan edit thread. Not getting over things is the only way we can fix them. I think he should be allowed to criticize. Whether his criticisms are valid is another question, but you shouldn’t just try to shut him up like this.

In fairness, it’s not just that his criticisms are bad, but there’s no way to accomplish what he wants. In which case my suggestion is legitimately the best thing he can do.

You’re probably right. His criticisms do belong more in the rewrite thread.

And as long as Kennedy is the president of Lucasfilm we will never see an alternate edit or anything even though it might or might not exist!

Honestly, I think I can say whatever I want to say as long as I don’t offend anyone what I’m not interested in in any way of course.

tobiwan1984 - you have a PM.

This is not the place for such conversations - as has been stated on several occasions throughout the thread - and also in the OP.

There are other threads in other sections of the site for those that wish to have such discussions.

Was this link posted?

It’s a “store” selling it.

Link to website removed by moderator - let’s not give them the publicity they wish for.

(though they were no longer selling Despecialized Editions when I checked earlier - which is good news 😃 )

They’re absolutely still selling it. In fact, it’s the ONLY thing that they’re selling.

For me there is no Despecialized listed on that site - plenty of other things for sale, like t-shirts and other items of clothing etc.

Ideas and an eventual edit: '<strong>Red Dwarf - The Promised Land</strong>'
Time

I really enjoyed Thursday night’s showing of it on Dave - probably the most I’ve enjoyed RD for a long while now 😃

The blu ray is scheduled for June 1st!!! (That is quick!) - and is advertised as having around 55 mins of ‘bonus footage’ on it - so it is likely there is some very useful material in there:-

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Red-Dwarf-Promised-Land-Blu-ray/dp/B0851M9L81

Already listed in the ‘Extras’ are deleted scenes, smeg-ups, audience reaction, and a documentary on it.

Wishing you all the best with this mate 😃

Did you really need to post this on 3 separate threads?

I just wanted to post my ideas about my vision of editing on this film and I did not think I would do that with bad intentions, if my publications do not have their places I can delete them, my apologies

No apologies and no deletions needed mate. And nice work too! 😃

<strong>Disney+</strong> streaming platform : <strong>Star Wars content</strong> &amp; various other info

I confirm that, as I was checking out yesterday if this was indeed the 19SE. But first the colors looked horribly like the 2004/2011 version and no Maclunkey! Just Han and Greedo shooting at the same time…

Is the French Disney+ advertising the films as being in 4K?

(I was just wondering - maybe they don’t know / confused as to which version they are meant to be showing?)

<strong>Coronavirus</strong> (COVID-19) Pandemic thread - <strong>relevant political discussion allowed</strong> in here

BBC’s Emily Maitlis with some powerful words and a piece - that needed saying, and also highlighting…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6wIcpdJyCI - at the BBC youtube channel (4 mins - taken from NewsNight)

or here https://twitter.com/ed_son/status/1248021250267656192

^ Didn’t think I’d see that on the BBC again - a presenter & journalist on a main BBC political program cutting through the Govt crap and dogma that has been so prevalent on its news programs and output for so long now. Well in, Emily Maitlis.

Help: Q2's 'Between Two Worlds' Edits (Twin Peaks)
Time

Hi Cal, it may be worth trying FE for more information as to Q2’s ‘Between Two Worlds’ edits:-

https://ifdb.fanedit.org/fanedit-search/search-results/?keywords=between+two+worlds&query=

https://ifdb.fanedit.org/twin-peaks-between-two-worlds-part-iii - has a link to a forum discussion for the Edit.

Q2 is also a member on the FE - so contacting him on there may also be of some help.

Good luck with it man 😃

It may be worth asking him if that is the case - just to confirm, either way?

(He is quite active and helpful in the comment section of that video - so you should get an answer)

Obviously not frame perfect but you get the idea.
He’s yet to reply to my comment.

And ROTJ. This one is frame perfect; and yes I did screenshot the 2011 Bluray and the video separate rather than cheat and use the exact same image.

Impressive work, man. Most impressive.

I hope you get an answer from him.

<strong>Star Wars (1977)</strong> - a general <strong>Random Thoughts</strong> thread
Time

Another reason why some of the changes made for the 1997 Special Editions make no sense; especially for Star Wars…

The Death Star has a clear line of fire for the Rebel Base on Yavin IV (which was added into the scene for the 1997 SE) - even before the Rebels begin their attack:-

All the footage he uses in that video is the 2011 Blurays, based on the colours, no? Seems somewhat misleading.

Are you sure mate?

BEAUTIFUL WOMEN NEW RULES IN FIRST POST (NSFW) UPDATED RULES
Time

Anakin Starkiller said:

Might I ask why exactly this thread is marked as NSFW if we’re not allowed explicit pics? It’s a bit strange, no?

‘NSFW’ is a good indicator that a thread may not be suitable for younger members - and that a thread contains more mature / adult themes or content.

Also, even though there are no ‘explicit’ images in here… some people - bosses, colleagues, visitors or guests, IT or HR Departments etc, may consider some of the images in the thread to be unsuitable to be viewed in a workplace environment.

That even viewing such a thread at work - may cause a person some issues and get them into trouble (depending on what workplace environment…) and so the ‘NSFW’ marker is an easy-to-see reminder that thread such as these are best not viewed whilst at work.

Some places of work may not have any issues with it - but we find it best to err on the side of caution.

I’m sure there are plenty of other sites on the internet that does allow, feature or specialise in ‘explicit pics’ - yet we are not one of them 😉
