ANDOR - Disney+ Series - A General Discussion Thread
Time

Knight of Kalee said:

I actually think Andor has a great premise. You have a character that is not that high in the power or popularity tier levels but that has shown hints of depth and a nuanced morality, this makes it a great protagonist for a smaller-scale setting and stakes that still could make for an engaging plot and worldbuilding thanks to the spy aspect. Hopefully they will tackle Cassian’s Separatist past, that could make him stand out even more (since the canon has barely delved into the benevolent people on the Confederacy’s side). I really like the Star Wars underworld as a setting, because it offers a lot of opportunities to reach further in regards of what the galaxy has to offer in regards to tone, locations and setpieces.

Same here. This is the series I am most looking forward to, much of what you listed above… as well as seeing the Rebel Alliance slowly start to form.

The Empire Strikes Back - a general Random Thoughts thread
Time

Verboten said:

So, I’ve thinking about how Luke is always upside down anytime he gains a new ability in the Force.

He’s upside down when he pulls the saber to him, when he has the premonition about Cloud City and when he calls to Leia for help.

I’ve never seen anyone comment on this and was wondering if you all had any thoughts?

There was an intriguing and insightful video on this not so long back…

I’ll try and dig it out a little later. 👍

Edit: found it:-

How Empire Turns Star Wars On Its Head’:-

Of course, Aussies wouldn’t understand any of that as they actually live in the upside down… or do they…?

IT: The King Cut (Released)
Time

thegreatredragon said:

Hey everyone, new user here, new faneditor.

Earlier this year, I struck out to make a fanedit of Andy Muschietti’s IT films, combining the two films and changing/removing certain elements. I know Muschietti has spoken about his own supercut adding in new scenes but as of now it’s nowhere to be seen.

What this edit does:

“The King Cut”, as you may guess, refers to Stephen King. The films are cut together to follow the chronology of the novel as closely as possible, while still retaining a coherent flow of plot. I’ve also changed/removed certain things that annoyed me or broke continuity in one particular instance.

Here’s how it plays out

-Chapter one starts with Georgie in the rain as usual
-When Pennywise appears in the drain, the jump scare cue is removed and replaced by a low rumbling sound to fill the void.
-The chapter one title card plays and transitions into Mike’s narration from Chapter 2
-Chapter two starts, the title card is removed
-Chapter two plays out about the same, except the scenes involving bowers are removed
-After Mike gives Bill the weird magic tea and he has his vision, the movie flashes back to chapter one, which picks up with Mike in the farm
-Chapter one plays more or less as normal
-When Ben kisses Beverly in the sewer, the poem revelation is removed. This is because it’s not consistent with the book (neither is Bev getting kidnapped but I can’t remove that without ruining the whole plot), and it is not followed up on in Chapter 2 or even in the end of Chapter 1 (Bev kisses Bill at the end, and in Chapter 2 she doesn’t remember that Ben wrote the poem, just like the book.)
-Chapter one ends and segways into all the Henry Bowers scenes cut from Chapter 2
-Chapter 2 plays, and a few bathos moments are changed (bill breaking silver, eddie and richie in the hallucination with the dog.)

I have a youtube video here showing most of the changes made. It doesn’t include the Eddie and Richie scene.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-w7muOm5So&t=8s

Please PM me if you’re interested in seeing it.

Any chance for a link?

Or you could simply send him a PM - as thegreatredragon stated - in his post you quoted 👍

FanEdit Reviews - Post Your Reviews Here
Time

No apologies needed, Vultural (that’s not a wall of text - you should see many of my overlong meandering posts on here! 😉)

Both you and Vilgefortz are correct - it’d be a shame to exclude people from seeing your quality work, Vilgefortz. Perhaps encouraging new/low-posting members to leave reviews etc rather than excluding them? Yet certainly ask for feedback on any glitches or technical issues. Though if anyone is being entitled - or being an idiot… then exclude or ignore them, for sure (or let the site staff know).

Personally, I’d like for newer members to have made 15 or so posts on here before being able send a PM - in a bid to give them time to look around the place, see how it works and how it doesn’t. Maybe even find the ‘Welcome’, ‘Project Index & Help’ and ‘How Do I Do This?’ sections, and join in with the community here - before requesting links… though unfortunately the site software doesn’t currently allow for it.

I don’t say it nearly enough as I should… a massive thank you to the few that do post up reviews in here (and also in the project threads) - they are very much appreciated. They are not only a big asset to the site - but also to the projects themselves. 👍

Babylon 5 reboot
Time

I never thought we’d see such a thing - yet here we are 😃

I hope it does well… if the quality is half that of the original it’d be a good watch, though am obviously hoping for better than that - or a show with a different take than before (circa the 2003 Galactica to the original BSG).

Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

sade1212 said:

The TFA novel was written by Alan Dean Foster, who also wrote this (Ctrl+F “resurgence”) interesting piece of fanfiction, so I’d take his ideas about the sequel trilogy with something of a grain of salt. Various parts of the TFA novel have also been retconned since - it suffers a lot from ADF not being privy to where the later movies were going. I don’t think TLJ or TROS were written with the idea in mind that Rey ever downloaded Ben’s training or what have you, though to some extent the dyad is another take on a similar concept.

Please don’t hide or disguise links that, sade1212. If you are going to link to a video by Jenny Nicholson (who seemingly hasn’t a clue who Alan Dean Foster is, other than from reading his wikipedia page) then link to it in an open and more detailed manner.

Thanks mate 👍

George Lucas and ILM Docuseries Coming from Lawrence Kasdan
Time

I do hope this will be an unofficial docu-series - and therefore less likely to contain the ‘official lines’ or possible restrictions from Lucasfilm or Disney - especially in regards to omitting certain people who have been ‘written out’ of the official history of Star Wars (or had their contributions overlooked or downplayed).

Though very much looking forward to hearing more about the series.

The 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special - a general discussion thread
Time

Rodney-2187 said:

This makes me think if there is ever a release of the unaltered theatrical versions of the original trilogy, it will be streaming on Disney+ only and not on a disc.

You could well be right on that, mate. Same for the 1997 Special Edition version too (of which pristine prints are already in existence - yet remains unreleased).

From Pablo Hildago’s twitter - https://twitter.com/pabl0hidalgo/status/1440524396569903113

When someone highlighted the image seemed to be of a higher quality than is usually out there - ‘Say…that’s an AWFULLY CLEAR screengrab…’

Pablo responded with - 'I have my sources. 😉

If Pablo is inferring there is a ‘high quality’ version of the Holiday Special in their archives… then hopefully one day we’ll see it up on Disney+. After all, there is not much point in such a version being kept in there and remaining unseen by the fans…

(not forgetting the many quality preservation projects of it on here, of course!)
