Doctor Who

Quality episode that for me - and also another one addressing somewhat awkward and sensitive historical events with respect and care they deserve - from the POV of the people in everyday life who would just start to be affected by them.

And hopefully also serve as an introduction to the subject of Partition too - for those who may beinterested.

Loved the music at the end too (and also the cinematography throughout).

^ Not a big fan of Christmas tv adverts anyway - yet banning that above seems utterly ridiculous.

Glad you enjoyed those links. I feel they help show the problem with Climate Change: There are large powers invested in ignoring it, and there’s only so much we as individuals can do to stop it without radical change.

Fully agree, I hope that at the personal and local levels there is enough happening (and publicity and awareness) to help make that pressure count on the larger powers - if not now, then for the next generation - or hopefully sooner.

An OT-era Rebel Spy tv series? I’m intrigued and probably more interested in that than The Mandalorian (though will give both a go 😃)

Looking forward to finding out who’ll be writing and helming the show (c’mon Ron D. Moore…) and more details - hopefully a more pragmatic ‘greyer’ view and feel of the world a la Rogue One.

Astronomers find pairs of black holes at the centers of merging galaxies’…

For the first time, a team of astronomers has observed several pairs of galaxies in the final stages of merging together into single, larger galaxies. Peering through thick walls of gas and dust surrounding the merging galaxies’ messy cores, the research team captured pairs of supermassive black holes—each of which once occupied the center of one of the two original smaller galaxies—drawing closer together before they coalescence into one giant black hole.

Movies you watch every Halloween

Flash Gordon (1980) - not a Halloween or even a horror film (in that sense 😉) though a good enjoyable romp all the same.

One of my favorite movies. I never get tired of it. The soundtrack alone makes it worth a watch.

I failed miserably at squeezing in all the movies I wanted to watch by Halloween, so I extended my deadline to this weekend.

The soundtrack is great - a real stomping release really in tune with the film! Though every time I listen to it (or hear a track from it) - I can’t help but want to put the film on and give the whole thing a re-watch 😃

Am hoping they’ll do something special for the 40th anniversary for 2020 - maybe a nice and new 4K transfer, compiling all the commentaries and bonuses from the differing releases so far into one new sweet deluxe boxset, including the soundtrack separately or something similar…

Gonna go give Ted a re-watch 😃

The Blu-ray came out when Universal was still butchering masters with DNR, and while it’s not the worst release I’ve seen, it’s scrubbed enough that it doesn’t look like film. A 4K remaster would be a day one buy for me, especially if it got a sweet box set like you guys in the UK always seem to get (I import a lot of UK releases for that reason).

Aye, we’re pretty lucky in general re the deluxe / ‘something different’ box sets over here - the French are getting this pretty cool looking 40th Anniversary set for ‘Zombie’ - Romero’s Dawn Of The Dead soon (hopefully there’ll be a UK/English language version too):-

https://www.kisskissbankbank.com/fr/projects/zombie-dawn-of-the-dead-de-george-a-romero-coffret-collector-cult-edition

and the new Carpenter 4K ‘Collectors’ releases, posted earlier in the thread, look superb too (am looking forward to seeing some reviews for them).

^ Apologies mate. I’d somehow overlooked your technology thread when coming up with the idea for this one - I’ll keep this thread as more of an ‘IT news’ thread - if good with you? No worries if not - I’ll ask the mods to lock/delete this one if you wish?

How do you get rid of anti aliasing in the 80s transformers?
Time

A bit more info may be useful for anyone to be able to try and help, mate - like what release of Transformers are you referring to?

(dvd or blu ray : which region? : if there are multiple releases of the ‘80’s Transformers’ - which version / set do you have? : Is the ‘anti-aliasing’ on every episode or just certain eps? etc : do you have a screenshot or example of the anti aliasing issue?)

Earth’s ozone layer is healing, UN report says

… the upper ozone layer above the Northern Hemisphere should be completely repaired in the 2030s and the gaping Antarctic ozone hole should disappear in the 2060s, according to a scientific assessment released Monday at a conference in Quito, Ecuador. The Southern Hemisphere lags a bit and its ozone layer should be healed by mid-century.
