Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

I'd recommend people who are willing to upload to any site pm D_J, If he agrees to this methodology.  Once a crew is set up, preferable at least three for trrnts, three for file sharing sites, three for usenet.  The source disc on D_J's end is RAR split and a third goes to each team member and they put that where they can.  Makes it easier on each of the people, and with all the RARs on all three sharing platforms the same, people can pick and choose where to get it from.

This might be a headache for D_J as he's going to have to explain to the randoms who don't read and don't get why one 'x' (lets say torrent) doesn't equal the whole file.  But the positive is D_J is not responsible for any of the uploads, just the initial distribution by mail.

Draw backs, if one of the segments on all three platforms fails, wasted time.  Also if blu-ray and star wars is mentioned in the file names, it's going to get confused with the official SW blu-ray leak, and that could mean headaches for the uploaders.  But with each of them only deals with a third, maybe confusion won't take place.

If you use one of the foreign language versions for Jar-Jar, it'll make the subtitles easier to read.  I'm hearing / reading different englishes, mind can't focus on either, easily.

I always thought this was on purpose.  To show how the Republic got corrupt by having those in charge being relatively stoic and unable to relate to the problems right in front of them.  Much like how people react to real world politicians.  They are often seen as saying one thing to get in power then doing another.  Where I think the PT lacked is there's no sense of the 'General Public'.  Everything is warrior/army/police types up against politicos.  There's no common man represented.  But having this dynamic between the PT and OT builds the story.  Until the reveal in ESB...  Then it's mythic family strife and looses me somewhat.

Jar Jar.  My hatred for him is still as alive as it was ten plus years ago.

My take on Jar-Jar is George gave up on him.  Maybe the backlash hit so hard/irrelevant and kids did like him that GL couldn't make the sacrifice, he felt some need to either keep Ahmed Best periodically employed or he saw the characters as the connective piece into other mediums.  But swap the Youngling killings and Jar-Jar, toss in Jar-Jar having spent so much time in the senate around Palpatine that he figures out the Sith connection, and you've got a Jar-Jar story arc.

Who are you and what did you do with Frink? The Frink I know would rejoice at a thread being derailed and pour a few barrels of gasoline in the fire :-)

Frink already tested fate by posting a pic only post (http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-coming-to-Blu-Ray-UPDATE-May-4th-2011/post/496809/#TopicPost496809) outside of off-topic.  He's gone mad from the lack of accountability.

corellian77: Seems response at starwars.com isn't too positive:

How hard is it to also post the link:

http://starwars.com/movies/saga/bluraymay4/index.html

Seems more like you are being highly selective.  5 selected negatives out of 132... (and there's so many double posts...)  How could you gloss over post 2?

20th Century Fox only has a piece of SW and ESB, right?  Wonder if that also goes for the documentaries, and explains why the later RotJ docs are not there.  For instance on the old VHS releases there is a 20th Century Fox logo on SW and ESB but not on RotJ.  It seems to me that this blu-ray set is predominatly made up of Fox centric material.

It's also interesting that there is no video from CV where they set up a booth to record fans talking about SW.  (think this has also been at other comic-con like events)  Maybe they're waiting till after the PvsG doc to get physical release.

Fun fact: I helped pick out the box art for the blu ray! YOU'RE WELCOME.

@KRLgrrl Katie Lucas
@Zack_Parks @VideoETA haters gonna hate. And then haters are going to buy the bluray set and keep complaining.

Especially with twitter as it seems the search functions for twitter are worse then the OT.com search function...

4:3(1.33:1) to 16:9 question
Time

What's the best approach when you are not sure the original source is in any normal ratio?

For example, starting from:

Initial idea is to maintain the approximate resolution, convert to proper ratio and remove the top/bottom bars.  For output to a smallish DVD.

Is it best to take an official source and use it as an underlay, tweaking till it's close?  I'm expecting that there is some l/r cropping in the source.  Which would mean there might end up having black bars on the side like the Bond examples shown several posts back, to maintain the 16:9 ratio.

^ Nice research.  Makes you wonder how many other random named versions there are.

Some additional mentions of the pre-full title CTP AotC:

If only I could lay them up like that on purpose...

Here's some files from the maythe4th.starwars.com site not currently being used:

Something about a screensaver...

this is odd:

HIS WEBSITE IS OPERATED BY FOX HOME ENTERTAINMENT. IT IS NOT HOSTED OR OPERATED BY LUCASFILM LTD. OR ANY OF ITS AFFILIATES.

yet it's on .starwars.com.

and in the code but not showing is this funny named-thing "facebook_like" and it points towards:

/afs/foxfilm.com/content2/maythe4th.starwars.com/html/global/html_footer.php

but not sure of the origin domain...

*EDIT*

things seem to be pointing back to foxmovies.com.  which is hosted by amazon.
