On the January 20, 2009 episode that covered the inauguration of President Obama, Jon noted that former Vice-President Dick Cheney's temporary wheelchair (required due to a back injury when leaving) made him look like a supervillain. He stated the only way for him to look more evil would be to play the "Star Wars Imperial March" and pet a white cat (a reference to James Bond's nemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld). In the following day's episode, a clip was edited to show Cheney in his wheelchair, passing Obama's presidential motorcade, with the Imperial March playing. Cheney in his wheelchair appeared again the following day, with the Imperial March yet again accompanying. Later, Jon said that Cheney "was this" and showed a clip from The Empire Strikes Back in which Vader says "If you only knew the power of the dark side." New Vice-President Joe Biden, meanwhile, is illustrated with a clip of Dark Helmet from Spaceballs, removing his mask as he exclaims, "I can't breathe in this thing!"

Correspondent Matt Walsh was doing a piece on Osama Bin Laden's mountain fortress and Stewart asked him if there were any weaknesses. Walsh replied that there was a small thermal exhaust port just above the main port. The graphic changed from USA Today's graphic of the fortress to that of the war room on Yavin as Walsh explained that a hit directly into the shaft would blow up the death star. Preserving the...<em>cringe</em>...Star Wars Holiday Special (Released)
Time

Video Collector:

Coincidence maybe, but Stephen Sansweet is head of Public Relations at Lucasfilm, I believe, and has been since the mid 90s. That makes it very likely that someone working for him would have access to the HS.

I guess Josh Ling is in trouble now...

Yup that's one of the things which makes this more substantial.  But the date Mr. Ling was offering up the tape (92) was before his work for Sansweet. (94)  The tape offering could be a reason why he got the job, on the other hand.  Sent over an e-mail, wait and see.

During a meeting with the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) on 03/17/2005, writer requested authorization from MPAA member companies for permission to exchange copyrighted material which is already being offered on Bit Torrent (BT) websites.  The only stipulation was that the FBI would not be originators of newly released material.  ***REDACTED*** Worldwide Enforcement, MPAA, ***REDACTED*** stated that he would request authorization and forward the documents to writer.

If i'm reading this right, does this imply that possibly the MPAA had asked in the past for the FBI to be the first leak?  Odd that they would not want to do this in the D-Elite case as they had the network compromised for multiple months.  (they had access to the harddrives which kept track of users files and downloads)

Poking through usenet, there are few mentions in the 80s, (possibly only one in 1989.  Few in 1990 and 1991, but in 1992 there was posted about the special by a 'Joshua Ling' (e-mail address (in 1992) at USC) who offered to make copies for folks:

Searching for Joshua Ling and USC brings up a LinkdIn profile which mentions:

This could be one of the people who got the tape trading going.

I go by SKot's research in this category so: http://www.starwarsholidayspecial.com/versions.htm is the resource of merit.

My first copy came from a usenet resident tape trade, has a John Williams conducting piece tacked onto the end, mid to late 90s.

Info: Digging up those blacks - using the STAR WARS Blu-ray for preservations
Time

You_Too wrote: Every single scene would probably need tweaking on it's own if you want it to be perfect

Towards this goal, if you all find it of use, there's a spreadsheet which lists every shot in the SW films.  Feel free to take the spreadsheet and use it as a tool to help keep track of the color correction.  Maybe it's easy to drop the color correction settings into a cell/cells of the spreadsheet.  This way people could see what's been done and what's still left to do, and at the end will be a complete listing of how to color correct the films.

You_Too if you create a guide, that would be a great way to get other people involved and collaboratively with the spreadsheet, coordination of getting the whole film/s shot by shot corrected might happen a little sooner.

The spreadsheet can be found from this thread:

Making of Return of the Jedi (the book) Thread
Time

SilverWook wrote: Is this the first time a "Marquand Cut" has been acknowledged as actually existing?

The 'Director's Cut' terminology could play out different ways.  Hard to be accurate descriptive in a tweet.  But from the Preecher's book: (pg 268)

JUN 23   1st Rough Cut

JUL 7     2nd Rough Cut

JUL 28   3rd Rough Cut

AUG 6    4th Rough Cut and SCREENING

SEP 30   Director's Cut

OCT 22   Fine Cut

NOV 1    LOCK PICTURE

I think calling it a Marquand Cut is a stretch as Lucas seems to have been always around.  Speculating that Director's Cut is how they envision everything to be, but then you might have to sacrifice a scene here or there to fit the limitations of film reels and other realities of the medium.

Saw last five reels of Director's Cut of Jedi--some scenes different/longer. Saw Lucas's re-cut of sarlacc scene. Writing, up to page 40...

Watched the first seven reels of the director's cut of Revenge of the Jedi at SR this morning on a KEM; sound is really 50% of picture.

Yesterday started writing rough draft Making of Jedi. After 7 months, 530 pages, 218,000 words of research. More to do, but had to start...

Found elusive revised second draft of Jedi at SR--interesting collage script. Hit 150,000-word mark--still only research. Urk, as they say.

lots of other tidbits in his feed.

Sounds like the book is coming along with much info to be discovered.  Hope it's longer then the ESB book, which looks a little skimpy next to the SW making of book.

Sluggo's Expanded RotJ script: http://starwarz.com/starkiller/2010/05/revenge-of-the-jedi-expanded-script/

Wonder how close the revised second draft is this revised rough draft: http://starwarz.com/starkiller/2010/03/revenge-of-the-jedi-revised-rough-draft/

Shot List Spreadsheet - v0.6.05 - 6 films - <strong>Multiple SW Audio Mix Changes Added Recently</strong>
Time

Have a first pass on all the films done, with most of the visual changes from SE to DVD and BD incorporated.  Below is this new version and a version which anyone can edit.

ShotList-StarWars-v0.5.00 :

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtjXdIjRQo5NdHd1U19DZXdjYXduMF9EN1ZWVjN4NFE

ShotList-StarWars-v0.5.00_public : (this version can be edited by anyone)

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtjXdIjRQo5NdE9RcndMaU9tSGNvd3J6eC1KemRoMlE

Not sure how this public version will work out.  But feel free to save your own copy and make changes.  If you do make a change, let me know, so I can incorporate it into a backup version.  As this is public document, it might get corrupted so might periodically revert it back to it's original state.  I guess if anyone reading does make a change, maybe change the border so it STANDS OUT.  This will make it easier to find when I do a review.

I would guess he plays up the fussy butler image of 3po in public situations but when one on one he's normal.  He definitely hams it up for the press.  Knowing what we know of him now it's great to compare him to a post SW interview where he doesn't even know he's coming back for the sequel.

Your first statement makes the second incorrect.  According to you, Lucas won't do anything to stop a fan preservation, so the only thing holding a a fan preservation back is technological ability.  Which is something this community can learn in time.  If we can learn in time then that makes it possible for the fans to make a worthy preservation and since Lucas won't do anything about it.  C'est la vie.

I don't mean to be Debbie Downer Asshole

You do.  You're above contradiction proves it.  Embrace your Dark Side.  You generalfrevious and kenkraly200whatever should do a pod cast together.  Light Side, Dark Side, StarWarscide.  That would be great podcast/radio.
