Official Release Thread - Alien Appendix - Updated with #2 info (Released)

Redux utilizes cocoon footage from both the Director's Cut as well as the Laserdisc(DVD) extras on the earlier releases. They are two different takes of the scene. And yes the whole thing runs much longer. It is truely an edit for the die hard Alien fan that wants to see everything available in one place. The average viewer would feel it drags. It has a much different feel than the official version.

Totally agree with that summation RIJIR.

Right !

DL Discs have arrived and burning is underway !

Can I ask all those interested to send details to: meedermow@hotmail.com

First wave should go out Monday (tomorrow - Saturday if you're lucky !)

I would ask that those of you with Dual Layer burners or who only watch these edits on PC - then please can I send out 2xDVD5's as data discs, you can then rejoin them and burn them, or just transfer them to your HD and watch from there.

I only want to send out dual layer discs to those who absolutely cannot get friends etc. to burn a dual layer.

Apols, but the postage on the requests so far is pretty hefty

Let me know when you contact.

Cheers,

mm

I'm just gonna tell you, because otherwise you'll neverrrr find that thing. I don't remember exactly, but basically, you play the movie, and as it's playing, you manually enter in either "13" or "14" to go directly to that chapter, and that brings up the easter egg.

Phew - cheers for that. I'd never have found it on my own (indeed it's chapter 14 and I could only access it from my PC, not even my stand-alone player ! - that's an Easter Egg !)

Say, does this release also incorporate the alternate cocoon scene from the deluxe laserdisc version (it is also on the Alien laserdisc archive on the AQ set) where Ripley says she's getting Dallas out of there? I know the quality was kind of sketchy on it, but it's still a nice little addition.

It certainly does - in it's entirety (and in anamorphic, no less)

Info, & Help: looking for... Robocop - ITV Family Friendly "Freakin' Airhead" Version
Time

In the late 80’s the popular commercial UK channel ITV aired a version of Robocop that has slipped into legend. At a pre-watershed time of 8pm they took the classic film, removed (or should that be crudely dubbed) all of the swearing and heavily censored the violence.

Classics include:

Dick Jones: “Once I even called him (Change Voice) Airhead!”

Bob Morton: “You’re gonna be a bad mother (Change Voice) Crusher!”

Bloke shooting at Robocop in the liquor store, line changed from “F*** Me!” to “FuWHY me! FuWHY me!”

Unfortuantely I only ever watched it (with jaw dropped having seen the original version) and never recorded it - but if anyone out there has a version, I’d love to give it the full treatment it deserves !

Cheers,

Alien Appendix 2

Alien Redux - "The Virtual Workprint"

A fan-edit of the film ALIEN which interpolates all exisiting deleted scenes and a variety of unseen footage and unused score cues to create a version that runs considerably longer than both the 1979 theatrical release and the 2003 director's cut.

Running Time: 2 hours 19 minutes and 21 seconds

This is the second release in the continuing "Alien Appendix" series: a collection dedicated to the archiving of supplementary material inspired by the Alien film quartet at the highest possible level of quality.

There will be 2 versions out there - a dual-layer version which is anamorphically enhanced and a single-layer version which is non-anamorphic.

I'm waiting for a batch of discs to arrive, as soon as they are here I'll send them out to the usual suspects. Hopefully should find it's way onto myspleen and the newsgroups in due course. PM me if you'd like to be added to the distribution list, on the assumption that you will be able to pay-it-forward to like minded fans in your neck of the woods

Enjoy !

(#3 is teetering on the edge of completion - so hopefully there won't be the wait between 1 and 2 as there has been between 2 and 3 - damn real life getting in the way !)

Thanks to Jonno, Ash595, THX and ADigitalMan for their help on providing, prettifying (x2) and polishing this monster respectively !

Laters,

(I might d/l and find out - for research purposes !)

The version currently seeded on Demonoid is the Coal Black Easter Egg version - that's featured at the top of Page 4.

Bizarrely though, I've yet to find the Coal Black Egg - even letting the film run through to the end !

Phew.

Apologies for the radio silence, Alien Appendix #2 has just rolled off the burner and is ready to go. I'll hold off with all info until I see if I can secure some cover art from our resident cover guru, then will post the NFO here as soon as I can !

There's a single layer and dual layer made of this one, one with the bare bones and another with an extensive over-haul of the original source. Can't wait to share it with you

Encore help needed from Encore users
Time
Well, Jonno is definitely your man if anyone knows. He helped me out hugely in my times of Encore trouble !

With any Encore work I've done, I've fixed such things in Womble and then imported the mpeg directly into Encore, so not leaving anything to chance synch wise. I'm using 2.0 and it's quite buggy in it's "playback/monitor" mode - their techincal argument is that it's all about the GOP's - but I can fix these things in Womble far easier. Is that a possible route ?

I certainly could D_J - it depends if Spence wants to have another version floating around out there !

My suggestion would be, since it's already had some time on Demonoid that maybe it could be Spleened. We'd need someone who had uploader status though who wouldn't mind upping it and then I'd happily take over the seeding of it. Hmmmmmmmmmm, wonder if anyone would be up for that

I should have said that Jim's white on white text on the back of the cover is in fact perfectly legible, in case the preview makes it look a little washed out. I'll send you an email Jim about a few changes that could be made and CC Spence into them.

Cheers,

mm
