Idea & Info: a Preservation of Alien Evolution doco?
Time
Indeed, I remember that part of the attraction at Disney/MGM - is it still there ?

I also remember that the Granada "back-lot" tour in Manchester had a site-specific Alien walk-through/ride, can't remember certainly never went on it. Did anyone here go ?

EDIT: Aha ! Right down at the bottom of the ALIENS trivia: Granada Manchester

Some of that "trivia" sounds a bit contentious in places !!

Indeed, without getting into names and the like, the creator of the Archives disc is a chap called Pheeks, I know him *very* well and am in contact with him on a nigh on daily basis at the moment. A number of his sources for some of the Alien archives and the Star Wars archives and the Jaws archives and the 2001 Archives and the Indiana Jones archives and the CE3K archives and the ET archives (and even the Starsky & Hutch archives !!!) are very close to home

He's not a member of this board and would be considered a bit of a "Dark Side Trader" since his going rate back in the day was £20 a disc, which indeed drop off, but its very much a monetary exchange deal. However I'm bringing him round to the lighter side of things (I was similar back in the day when the £/$ etc. ruled things - but I have now seen the light thanks to the people here !), but preservation is not the #1 priority in regards to quantity for Pheeks. Nearly every disc I've had from him in the past has now "expired" as Ash595 will remember with the 2001 debacle ! However if you have any Archives disc with a menu on it (other than a typical VIDEO_RM splash screen) then that is by my fair hand. And not an apt representation of the level I'm work I'm currently putting into these current menus.

Now, Adobe Encore is calling

Now we're cooking Thanks for the hard work in putting that together triffid.

Some thoughts:

I don't consider AVP part of the series I have to say - I can understand the connection (quite obviously) but it managed to, bizarrely, not feel like an Alien movie or a Predator movie ! Quite a mean feat when you consider it. Perhaps for the benefit of our collection Sigourney = Yes, Lance = No

Not directly quoting but hard no to address the questions put forward anything other than indivually:

Giger’s Alien - I'm guessing this could even be out-of-synch on the Archives disc ! But since it's a voiceover - I'll let you decide re. quality, you have both
Aliens: J. Cameron A Director & His Work - Complete would be preferable - otherwise Archives disc
Making of A3 UK version - If it can be remastered, so be it. Again the Archives would suffice if it meant too much additional work
Making of A4 HBO version with Ron Pearlman - Official VCD could well be preferable over VHS - depends on generation of Jonno's
Making of A4 Sci-fi Channel version with Brad Dourif - you'd be best to liase with Ash595 and t1971 re quality
Shock & Awe - as above. Quality isn't great (but at least now it's finally in synch !) - if better is out there, go with that
Ride at the Speed of Fright - can't wait to see this footage !
Alien War in Trocadero/Glasgow - everyone knows my thoughts on this = ALIEN WAR ROOOOOLED !

My thought's

Hmmmmmm, doesn't look great, though obviously hard to tell without seeing it ! What are the specs of the other version that you've been offered ? Just a VCD port to DVD, or something better ? Is there a financial burden that you'd have to carry on this ?

Certainly no "buts" for me on Jonno's conversion. I really don't think it could be better bar a digital recording from the source...

Evening folks.

This is all beginning to sound really exciting

Jonno - your other archives will go out tonight, though if Triffid is hunting down another "Director and His Work" documentary - I'm sure that will be better than the one I found, the last 30 seconds and credits are missing and the quality could be better.

*REALLY* impressed with the "new" Evolution that this thread has brought to fruition ! It is interesting how everyone seemed to gravitate towards it at the same time, but I guess that was meant to be ! The picture is definitely as good as I saw it during the broadcast - sound wise, spot-on.

I'm trying to throw together some kick ass menus, a la Mother booting up, but the time that this takes could well be prohibitive. As I've discussed with Jonno and agree with him, just plain, classy menus would probably be most de riguer. I'm happy to help in anyway I can. I'm sure Ash595 will be able to wrestle up some kick-ass cover/s so we all seem to be playing to our strengths.

Welcome tb1971, a valuable addition to the team as triffid before you ! You sound like you have some wicked material and it was great reading your memories of Alien War. God, I want to do it again NOW !!! I'm presuming Mark Kermode is walking through Alien War at the start of the documentary ? If the "insurance" story is to be believed then surely they could have set up elsewhere just as easily, the queues were always snaking around the bottom of the Trocadero and it was always fun to wait for people to explode out of the final hatch and normally land in a huge heap on the floor having gone through the "experience". I now distinctly remember the lift finale and the dropship - IT WAS SOOOO GOOD ! I remember a friend I took to it (having done it myself) who thought the Aliens were some kind of hologram or projection - so I made sure he was in the seat in the dropship where he was most sure to find that *not* to be true !

Keep on keeping on guys...

Klokwerk's CBB DVD Covers Thread (3 Covers + Disc Art Available)
Time
Right !

Here we go klokwerk - strangely it was the Doomed By The Boogeyman cover that demonstrated errors in the first .rar for me - the others were fine !

So here are the permanent home of those 3 (but note its the "old" Doomed cover and no stomp - the rest are the updated covers (just as jpeg's - would you have preferred the png's ?) and their respective stomps - if you want updated ones then I'll just rename the file each time, but keep the same link - so these will always feature the most up-to-date ones and like I say be an enitrely permanent home !

Hope all that makes sense - by all means send me a PM if you need further clarificafion Luke

Idea: Crash (1996) - LD to DVD transfer
Time
Welcome to the forums Dizzy !

I think that's a great idea - I've been a huge fan of this film and the commentary is by all accounts fascinating. I was in the audience when Cronenberg was interviewed by JG Ballard when the film came out as part of the London Film Festival before all the hoopla of "Ban This Car Crash Sex Movie" (a real UK front page banner headline in a "news"paper !).

If you've seen the preservation of The Game or Se7en that digitalfreaknyc has released - I'd say something along those lines would go down a treat - especially if you just capture it as a commentary only-track. It's far more effective that way.

Cheers,

Also bear in mind with the Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen line - Hudson could be directly referencing the AC/DC song: Shake A Leg. Pretty contemporary for circa 1985 when the film was made, slightly less so for 2179

SHAKE A LEG

CHORUS:
Shake a leg, shake your head
Shake a leg, wake the dead
Shake a leg, get stuck in
Shake a leg, shake a leg

Magazines, wet dreams, dirty women on machines for me
Big licks, skin flicks, trickey dick's are my chemistry
Goin' against the grain, trying to keep me sane with you
So stop your grinnin' and drop your linen for me

CHORUS
