Star Wars Episode III: Labyrinth Of Evil (Released)

From the NFB’s clips, to me the smoothest and seamless use of “General Skywalker” was from Grevious’ line. The rest of it didn’t work for me personally. Hal, if you wanted to try and keep the relationship between Anakin and Obi Wan, maybe having Grevious would work? Heck, he says General Kenobi already, why wouldn’t he extend the same title to Anakin if he wasn’t.

I don’t suggest this because of Clone Wars or anything, but it would help cement that the two are more on the same level … in that aspect at least.

Removing some of the “Obi Wan talking down” to Anakin does helps show they are more on equal footing. Using other audio for the whole “general Skywalker” is so jarring. It is not needing. I like Omni’s point especially for A New Hope’s line and motivation for Vader.

Heck, the others use Master when referring to each other anyway.

TAS is probably the “best” one since it it improves the original movie considerably. My buds kept thinking "why didn’t they (LucasFilms) use those deleted scenes in the first place?! Also Anakin as a character was greatly improved and the relationship between him with Obi and Padme much, much better. The only way you can “improve” on is if someone with uber skills can perfectly upscale the deleted scenes to 1080 and fill in the technical gaps/visual effects… But, I don’t think that is going to happen or is possible. 😉 So I agree, you do not need to do a new version at all.

I agree with your assessment, I’d try that approach with the tongue. The dinner scene isn’t too bad, but the Watto scene was too goofy. The dinner scene’s tongue at least goes along with Jar Jar’s style since it mimics the scene involving the critter on a stick thing and Sebulba.

Well, I’m toying with doing a V6 for Episode I. Episode I occupies a strange spot in my heart, and I’d like to reincorporate some bits and pieces. In a parallel to Lucas, in all likelihood, having children may shift my sensibilities!
I’m not promising anything right now, but if I proceed, here are my ideas for changes. Feel free to suggest anything else or share feedback.

 • Maybe add a “roger, roger” to the commander droid responding to a hologram of the Neimodians, in order to include one somewhere (and possible do the same elsewhere if there’s another spot where a droid takes an order from the living being, but not the first ‘treaty’ scene which is already cut out)
 • Reinstate Jar Jar sticking his tongue out at Qui-Gon in Watto’s shop
 • Reinstate Jar Jar snatching apples with his tongue at dinner ( https://youtu.be/2df6x2YEeu8?t=33 )
 • Put in truncated “it’s working, it’s working” scene
 • Ditch the ‘morning before the race’ deleted scene in light of the previous change
 • Maybe put back in “let’s go left” and “I’ll try spinning, that’s a good trick”
 • Add “when in trouble, gungans go to sacred place” as voiceover as they approach the Gungan shelter area (idea from MalaStrana)
 • I might edit the podrace completely differently, ditching the musical score I added. I did it originally in 2006 and was fond of it, but it might be better without it and not edited specifically to fit the music

My color correction needs are very simple, but does anyone feel like making a LUT I can use to just tidy up the image overall? Just to tone down the red from the BluRay, and whatever else would make for a good universal setting to apply to the whole film.

I am excited for a potential V6 of this film! Just this last Saturday I had my “belated” Star Wars day since I was out of town the first weekend in May and played this and “Approaching Storm” edit. Everyone thought Approaching Storm was beyond fantastic but a bit conflicted with this due to some of your editing choices.

I would add at least one “Roger Roger” since it is one of those fun/funny quoting lines like “Boba Fett?!”
Also, reinstated “It’s working” scene is like the “Roger Roger” quote. If there is a way to trim it to keep the theme that Anakin is capable and not just such a lucky kid would be ideal. The use of the deleted scene is pretty flat and boring and visually odd with Kit.

I’d be ok with Anakin’s comments during the space battle, so far in this edit he is portrayed as being capable, and less like Inspector Gadget, and those comments WITHOUT the whole “auto pilot thing” doesn’t take away from his character. He is still a kid, and my goodness, he is pretty calm!

As for the pod race, I would agree with that. My group of buddies did think the music wasn’t right and seemed off.

I admit I am not sure with the reinstating some of the Jar Jar stuff. Maybe the apple thing, but the sticking tongue out may be a bit too much? It may depend if you still keep the electrocuting tongue part in the “working, working!” scene.

However, I do applaud your efforts and still think you do a mighty fine job on your edits.

Star Wars: Remastered - A New Special Edition (* unfinished project *)
Time

I gotta agree with the comments of making it match the original shot. We are talking about one of those iconic scenes … I wouldn’t mess with the timing … keep it as close to the original but with the updated/modernized look.

As for the engines, I wouldn’t worry too much about the effects like in Rogue One since at this time the engines are at full power and not warming up like in Rogue One.

I do agree that it is an entertaining standalone item, but for putting into any edit? I don’t think that can work … doesn’t match on camera movements, colors, quality, etc. I feel bad saying this since I know it obviously took a lot of time and work to do but … I was expecting something a bit better in terms of consistency. But, from the previews I knew that wasn’t going to be the case, especially with some of those odd choice camera angles.

Solo - A Star Wars Edit (Released)
Time

I just watched V1 this Saturday and now plan on watching V2.

Overall I believe you made some good choices on your trimming. By reducing some of the silly nonsense, but retained the “fun” of the film it was enjoyable to watch.

I liked what you did with the title card at the beginning of the movie, it was creative use with the black shots between the “jumping” of the speeder. I thought it was creative. I also appreciated the change of the opening act of Solo obviously running away from some trouble. Some parts of it did feel a bit … disjointed? I am not sure of the right word and would need to watch it again. Also thank you for removing the imperial officer coming up with “Solo” for his name. It was a silly thing since later in the movie Han talks about his dad and working on ships … his father had no last name? Silly.

The use of the deleted scene at the beginning was also wise to use to help build upon Han’s personality and was a nice segway to the battle scene. Here is where I am conflicted though. Would it have been better to use the Title card between the Recruitment scene and the Deleted/Tribuno scene? The reason that comes up is there would be logically a certain period of time between Han, “pilot” school, training etc. It is such a jump in time it may be a good use of having either some kind of transition shot … title … or something since there would be logically a period of time. On the same token, your use of it was creative at the beginning.

Everything else throughout the movie was enjoyable with good logical cuts and trimming. The only one that “technically” doesn’t work is the Maul scene. I am glad you removed the “Look as I ignite my lightsaber for no reason” but the ending shot of him still shows his hood on when he took it off earlier. Granted, I like the removal of the saber scene BUT there is that inconsistency of shots.

However, like I said, overall, what a great edit. I did enjoy watching it!

Here’s the final dewback scene, for anyone still uncertain about it. If you do a direct comparison with the OOT version, it merely looks like the SE has chosen to minimally enhance the background dewback. The original shot was very static.

Hal, that looks absolutely fantastic.

This has probably already been addressed (or fixed), but what was the consensus on the Falcon scene where Han says, “Anyway, we should be at Alderaan in 0200 hours” at the beginning, but by the end of the scene they have reached Alderaan?

Have people interpreted that as they’ll reach Alderaan by 2 o’clock Galactic Standard Time rather than in 2 hours, and when he said that it was already like 1:57 GST or something? If that’s the case, he could’ve just said 3 minutes. Nitpicky of course, you could just write it off as techy nonsense dialogue, like making the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs.

My thought is pretty much your thought, in that he was giving an “at time” not “in time.” Maybe not the best of dialogue, but the timing of everything kind of explains what he means.

STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **

My gut tells me removal of eyebrows makes more sense due to him being burned with lava and his hair didn’t grow back. Pretty much like Rogue One depects Vader in the Bacta tank.

Also, as in regards to Rebels … no offense, but anything thats been shown, portrayed, etc. doesn’t really matter and is goofy. Time travel … enough said.
