The Prequel Trilogy Revised - concept trailers released (WIP)
Time

Hello there,

I’ve recently reviewed this thread and find parts of it pretty fascinating. I am all for enhancing things, scenes or whatnot, especially “updating” the look of things. I see that Adywan is an inspiration in this matter and I do love his approach on enhancing established shots. For you I like the enhancing of planets, engine glowing and eventually working on shadows and some of the weakest CGI scenes. The biggest glaring one I see is the Gungan retreat scene and the tanks moving on the field. Anyway, things like that if you can work on those hots to look better, to the best of your abilities.

However, I myself am not sold on a couple of things. Like the force push effect … looks kinda silly to be honest. Also the bombing of Naboo doesn’t work for me too. I feel like it’ll be a lot of work with not much payoff.

The whole radio broadcast message is pretty silly. It doesn’t even make sense TROS. The Resistance has no clue about Palp being back until they got the intel from the “Mole.” If there was a broadcast that went out to the entire universe and everyone knows it, then why the heck did they act so clueless when they got the intel?

It’s another case of the sloppy-ness that’s come about this movie, even things that surround the movie too. The crawl has to be altered…

Anyway, that is just my two cents and I am assuming any fan edits of TROS will alter the crawl (For on big reason to remove the mention of Palpatine RIGHT AWAY) and also to remove that line about the broadcast. Just … why?

I’m guessing that in the following years, there will most likely be an up-storm of edits of the Sequel Trilogy like there were for the Prequel Trilogy.

Right now people are down about, which I understand completely.

I myself am hopeful because of the Prequel trilogy and their edits. I LOVE Hal’s prequel edits, I actually probably watch those the most now since there is a charm about them and the edits really cut out the junk in them. They are watchable, where before, there were just SOOO many cringy moments.

So I am hopeful for the sequel movies, Hal’s Restructured is great. I also enjoy Poppa’s Rekindled edit.

TROS will be a tough one due to the overall plot, not just cringy moments and dialogue. But I think it can be done to at least be entertaining.

Neverar’s style of TFA has a lot of visions, sounds, etc. with certain scenes, such as the Falcon scene you are mentioning.

However, Hal’s direction doesn’t go that route since it tries to follow more of the original movie’s direction of style. Hence, for this edit, it is not necessary since I doubt Hal would includes those audio clips (laughing, memories, etc.) to make the point that Kyle is a bit more “clouded” with his decision.

EDIT: Sorry Hal, I hope I didn’t overstep in anyway with that comment!

Also, earlier up regarding the timing of the Snoke/Hux moments, it sounds like on paper Rogue’s idea regarding the Hux flinch would be more logical with Snoke’s line regarding the Jedi.

I think the radio scene works well as it is. But how about “At last… Find me” for Palpatine’s line? It would imply two things in my mind:

  1. At last, Kylo has killed “Snoke” and thus fully committed to the dark side.
  2. At last, Skywalker is dead. “Snoke” spend two movies being really into finding and killing Luke, taking revenge for the end of ROTJ. Now he’s finally out of the picture, and there’s no more need of the Snoke charade, the final phase of his plan can be kicked into action.

Hmmm, interesting idea. Still leaves things up in the air too with what it means.

Idea: ‘Heir To The Jedi’ Duology (A TFA / TLJ spitball idea thread)
Time

Man … I know the pain there Hal. I like the idea in theory, it’s going to be all about the execution. TLJ was certainly a “middle” movie that does leave so much up in the air.

I too shall ponder on this, but will be very curious if there is a good amount of deleted scenes to work with to either help out TROS or with this concept.

Help: looking for... a TLJ edit with... Finn's suicide run removed entirely?
Time

I have not heard of any edits that removes it. I think it would be almost impossible to do.

Rough idea:

Use Poppa’s edit where Rose is shot down. You would need to do the same thing for Finn … maybe take out a scene with a speeder being shot down and it could be his. Poppa’s edit does scrub out Rose’s downed speeder next to Finn when he gets out of his destroyed “love-save” speeder … and runs off for Rose, which Poppa’s edit does that works pretty well.

So can it be possible? Maybe. However, it would be hard to polish it and find good timing … but I will continue!:

Maybe when Finn get’s shot down (If there is a good usable downed speeder scene) it happens at Poe’s retreat line. I don’t recall quite correctly, but doesn’t Finn saying something like “What!?” or “No!”? If so, you can then use the scene that Poppa uses in his edit that has a walker’s targeting computer lock on onto a speeder and shows it shooting. That’s when you then use a scene of a lone speeder getting shot down or something.

So yeah … possible maybe as a rough idea, but the real question is can it get done? Maybe, I haven’t really thought about it. I think other issues that can come up for timing is the tracer of the Death Ram and all, but hey, things could be worked around.

I admit I was hoping Finn would make the sacrifice since it would complete is character arc pretty well.

But then we got slapped in the face with “Stopping the enemy from coming into the base to slaughter us doesn’t save us, Love-(forcefield te-heheh) does!” and in the next movie he is kinda garbage. Sigh.

I think a bit quieter for the fin as well as remove the force transmission sound as I feel it is too obviously a force call (leaving it out, makes it more open to interpretation, that way its confirmed in ROS) and the sound is already being used alot in this movie 4 times i think including the Palps edit.

That’s a good suggestion. I am very curious to see/hear a version that is quiet and without the Force Call Sound.

I agree with Poppa

The radio should be the more “blatant” reveal or hint. Just pepper things a bit though out the movie.

Also, in regards to Hal’s TFA:R, he is adding a few Palp things, sound clips/music wise, but not out right reveal things.

With a combination of these two things, there is some hinting that should progressively reveal things. But not out right reveal it. All of us can agree the who Palpatine treatment from TROS was just BAM! Right in your face and even in the crawl.

Let’s just keep hinting at it for the time being.

I’ll keep an eye out for the updated video, it is still the same one. I am very curious since the subtle one is the way. Especially since you have the radio scene at the end, that should be the most “blatant” of the hints. Keeping the eyes strong, or so, “in your face” may be the tip of the scales to be too much hinting at things. Or at least trying to hint at something.

Just watched the video Poppa, really nice!

I think the “blue smoke” is just right!

As for the eyes, I think I can go either way really. I think it is done well, it is more a question of is it needed? I think it’s neat, but is it too much of a hint? I think the smoke is fine as it is and doesn’t really hint at much since it is so quick … which is a great thing.

Of course you can keep working on it, but I think I am leaning towards keep the smoke but not the eyes. Maybe. I’ll keep watching it and pondering about it more and more.

^^^ I agree with Ash on this.

Also, Wow with the latest clip! I like it! It is not revealing and even during the course of this movie, everyone is so curious “Who is she!?” It makes it seems like we are finally getting something … but nothing. I think the balance is done well on this, I don’t know what you can do to perfect it.

As for the radio thing, I still agree keep it short and sweet with the find me. There can still be some clean up to help perfect it since the only “anchor” that’s holding it from being perfect is the reuse of scenes. I don’t know if there is a way to make it perfect, but getting it as close as possible is the key.

Poppa you are our only hope!

Thanks Hal! And thanks everyone for the helpful feedback!

RL, I get what you’re saying and I can see a version like that working (Option 4E)! I think if I do try that, I would slow down and split up the long dolly, as you said, and end on that shot. I think I should stay away from the closeup eyes shot to avoid a second duplicated shot.

I don’t think it was really the music that was dictating the edits so much as needing to give a new idea it’s own moment, which requires time. So I don’t want to make it much shorter, but rather reduce the number of cuts.

I’ll take a look when I can, but for now, 4D V2 is the “current” version in the cut!

May the force be with you!
