Hal I’ll make a list of replies to this thread. I have no skill, but I can do that at least!
Hal I’ll make a list of replies to this thread. I have no skill, but I can do that at least!
I searched for Obi-Wan’s “I’m so sorry,” but that came up first and so I used it. Lol
Lol. Admittedly I support your first one! 😄 yay darkness!
It doesn’t fit the mood of the scene, and to me feels very grounded in the prequels. I promise I’m not out to get you, but I don’t think I’m for this one, either. 😕
Holy crap are you going to kill him like Dooku was going to do. Dang Hal.
😉
I think people take issue not with the ability of droids to feel pain so much as the cartoonish manner in which that is expressed.
Exactly. It’s such a weird scene. Are we suppose to laugh? It still feels awkward to this day.
Admittedly, if I could get a custom crawl that changes the wording for the last paragraph worded something like “Kylo found the last piece of the puzzle … dark whispers … something something … mysterious planet … yada yada …” I would totally go with the removal of the Mustafar Minute in my own personal edit. But I have no skill. Doh!
Anyway, back to Hal’s edit and the previous conversation of the LUT, I do agree with the 50% deblue version that seems to be the consensus. Seems like the right balance. Now we just need Jonh to correct is priorities and work on this Star Wars Fan edit and give Luke a hair cut! ;P
I appreciate the motivation of adding music cues, but I do agree with Hal, in that music is pretty much associated with Jar Jar and mesa got some bad vibes from dat.
Although I can appreciate music cues, but it shouldn’t be used “for the sake of filling in gaps.”
Limiting/not having music cues/notes/sounds/etc. is just as important as using them. It’s a balancing act.
Playing a little more with the Vader Castle idea. I am at the office and using GIMP … not great with it. So this is ROUGH.
The thought is to make it way in the background and have atmosphere distortion. We can see the castle since its on top of some cliffs to give it alleviation. Granted, this is super rough concept and would need some serious touch up on the video. But having it way in the back, distorted with atmosphere but “we” can see the shape of it would help sell it.
The location of it seems right since it is far away and not “looming over them/us” since watching all the clips, angles, etc., there isn’t a real way to make it “suddenly” appear close to us in context of the Mustafar Minute. Having it behind Kylo grasping the Wayfinder allows us to see it, but at a distance, so it doesn’t “interfere” with anything.
It needs softer edges, probably lowered a bit and better coloring to match the atmosphere … but could be doable.
Sorry my writing skills suck.
Ay carumba. Let’s move this elsewhere.
I agree. As for what Never said, I’d just scrap the line. Simple and clean.
Man last I check there were 12 pages… I have a lot to catch up on lol
I feel you lol
btw did you guys figure out the Vader castle scene? (To the Op and thread)
It seems no one’s tackled it yet.
Once I did a very rough concept of where the castle would be placed, but that would be it.
That was the spot I was thinking (scene, not location of castle) where it could work. From the scene before that shot, I would not have it on the right side since you do get a glance of the sky that direction that is blank. I would try the far left side, shrink it down a bit that has some of the opacity removed and the smoke helps hide it a bit so its “there” but not too obvious to avoid a “LOOK AT ME!” vibe maybe?
The Rey Palpatine comes first and then the Rey Nobody edit after it, timing wise of release.
Agreed. Honestly these edits are attempting to be more connected than the actual theatric versions.
Yeah, here we go!

Yeah, that works really great Hal. Simple but effective.
That Naboo shot is the best one so far. Maybe a tad slower for the star destroyer and a little less opacity?
Checking last post … yep, had wink 😉 emote. Joke was confirmed. Not literal.
It’s a joke …
Hal, have you considered having Luke speak to Ben during the Mustafar Opening or when he is repairing his mask? Maybe just a quick line like “Ben”, but something just to be consistent with Luke’s last words in TLJ of “see you around kid”.
Remember Rise of Skywalker is the true sequel of The Force Awakens, so it doesn’t really care either happened in the last movie. 😉
Lol, double the Hondo impossible/lore breaking move.
What would a Hondo maneuver even look like?
Sorry, I meant more like what Dominic’s suggestion of having another “haldo maneuvered” Star Destroyer for the Naboo shot instead of the smoking ship. I wasn’t clear. My bad.
Lol, double the Hondo impossible/lore breaking move.
I moved all of this victory montage after the Resistance victory scene on Ajan Kloss. That way it can be The Resistance and their new fleet aiding in taking down the First/Final Order.
Hal, are you gonna do this? It makes more sense than “suddenly, unpopulated Jakku took down a Star Destroyer”
Obviously all those scavengers did it since … well … they wanted more portions … think of what they would get for NEW shiny parts!
😉
Forgive my terrible memory, but why are all these Star Destroyers exploding over random planets? (I only saw TROS once, so I might be forgetting something).
At the end of the movie, there was this montage of “people around the galaxy is uprising against the First Order” and shows their destruction.
So this clip Hal is doing is adding a couple more to help “round out” the entire saga and not just sequel movie planets in the original cut.
How’s this?
That’s a step in the right direction! I think the smoke needs to slow down more, since the other shots show that the smoke doesn’t move too fast or “loose its shape” in comparison to the naboo one. Plus, I would darken the smoke to match the other explosions.
But yes, the smoke is better than the fire ball explosions, it fits better.
It’s getting close … this is great!
And just so everyone knows, in case you did not… Snooker sent me an updated version of the Naboo shot after seeing workprint #4. Just so everyone is on the same page, here is the most recent clip I have from her, in context:
It’s definitely a munch better improvement. The clouds slowed down helps with the scene. I also appreciate the work that was done with everything else.
I’ve watched it a few times and the explosions still feel … “off” to me, like it doesn’t match anything we’ve seen and proportionately seems off to me at well. I think there needs to be more smoke to help “hide” some of the explosion to help blend it in better maybe? Or small less explosions with more smoke? Smoke the whole time would help I think.
I LOVE having Naboo in it and it is worthy to be kept in, I think there just needs to be a little more tinkering. I feel like the explosions don’t seem right. Although I commend the work being done. Seriously, I have ZERO skill.
Found any good sounds for the light saber crackling hum for Rey Hal? I recall you were looking for a new sound to use.
Disney Star Wars canon can be described as Swiss cheese.
Thought those are fine reasons and whatnot, I don’t mean to derail the conversation since it’s more on the “Man, what the heck Disney” with the sequel movies.
But still, even before all of this with the lightsaber stuff, it is still a bit silly.
Anakin went through many lightsabers. Luke lost the “skywalker” saber. Some how the saber returns (don’t get me started on the comic) and calls out to someone. And at the end? Rey buries it.
Sorry I really don’t mean to derail things, things have just been handled so … ugh.
But to get back on track with this edit. For the Naboo shot, which I hope can get salvaged, I think what stickks out to me is the fast moving clouds and the too visible and fast explosions of the Star Destroyer. These scenes should be “slow moving” to match the others. Also, I am not sure even if slowing down and lowering the opacity of the explosion would help it since it looks a bit too different from the other shots. I think just having it smoking or something would be better and easier to implement maybe?
