REY NOBODY - A Collaborative Thread
Time

Both routes have their good and bad aspects, and it seems the focus on the dark throne is probably the “cleanest” route.

I would NOT focus on the whole dark side thing … or let alone her being tempted so much by it. Because of the last movie … Rey has no problem with the dark. She “dove in” the dark side in TLJ (Water time on the island) with no problem and NO repercussion from it. So there is nothing tempting Rey with the dark in the aspect of “If i start doing this, I will go bad” TLJ threw that concept out. She is immune to it apparently. Plus she has no REAL temptations to join the dark side at all. (The whole throne scene in TLJ with Kylo trying to persuade her to join had me roll my eyes. She JUST MET THIS GUY, had a “moment”, even though the day before he murdered his dad and is part of the space nazi army that has attacked her several times. That proposal was suppose to be tempting?)

If there is a way that focuses on THE VISION of her being on the throne, without Kylo egging her on to join the dark side, even if they have cookies, would kind of help keep the two movies … kinda connected.

Sigh Disney.

Lol, that’s a simple “fix” to not having to use other dialogue. I can get behind that.

I also can get behind Ziggy’s idea of cutting to the star destroyer seen when they identify the neckless. It adds to the “urgency” … at least to the audience … that the crew will need to get going soon since Kylo and the FO is on their way. At least in a more “logical” sense for the audience of an urgency for them to get going.

Hmm, I don’t know. I think there’s no real continuity issue, as Finn can approach the other two from offscreen easily in that timeframe. Apologies because I can’t remember who off the dome, but someone has the idea to add a few faint footstep sounds to imply Finn is walking over even. The clip you posted, and granted that I’m watching with a hawk eye, feels edited as the dialogue doesn’t match their mouths, especially Rey calling out Poe’s name.

I dunno, I think what we got so far is probably as good as that little scene is going to get.

Does the walking sound help? I couldn’t see I’d there’s better sound clips.

I believe you and believe me that I have NO to ZERO skill and knowledge on actual high end/good/etc. programs. With my pathetic-ness, I’d probably just have these “HD” video clips be on top (no sound) and essentially make sure they synch up with the audio from your edits. That’s basically what I am personally do with what I got. 😉

That’s my only gripe about using those deleted scenes, which SHOULD have been in the movie, but because they were not at HD it sticks out like a sore thumb to me. They do improve the movies very much, but always stick out to me. So with this project, this was my wish from a long time ago … being able to do a proper upscale for these scenes to really make these edits perfect. (For Star War prequel movies despite their issues … but I do enjoy watching them via Hal’s edits.)

Lol, no not at all. My comment was about the idea of trying to remove the Lando scene since it’s weird to “follow a stranger.” It is not too strange in the context of being spotted by a Storm Trooper, a guy kills him and then says follow me. It’s not too strange to track the idea they will at least hear the guy out. The stranger’s first act was helping them out, it doesn’t imply they all out trust him, but at least will check the guy out.

Plus, they got to get out/hide since they’ve been outed. So in that very moment and need to make a quick decision, following the guy who attacked a storm trooper is not a bad choice in the heat of the moment.

Both options have their pluses and minuses. There is no “right” answer since the bad story telling/writing/character development/prior canon/philsophy has gone out the door in these movies. So the ideas between both versions … Rey Palps and Rey Nobody versions can never be perfect, let alone making sense either which way. Just try to make what works, even if there are still some holes or concepts that don’t make sense … since well, there was no real direction with these movies from Disney … so we all have to already remove the logic or things that make sense to make these edits.

Oh Jonh, that would be a pretty cool concept if doable.

Hal, I listened to the clip you submitted for the lightsaber. I like it. It’s not too strong or weak. Not trying to be a Kylo saber 2.0. With the added visual change, it’ll be fabulous.

As for the whole Daisly Ridley interview … not surprised. Boy Disney screwed the pooch on this sequel trilogy.

I feel bad for all the workers on this. Instead of making Star Wars Movies, they were making movies trying to be Star Wars.

Here’s another version of the extra lever shot. I extended Chewie’s grown, which hopefully works, and used a different piece of buffer audio from earlier in the scene that doesn’t have the wind that was causing issues.

Going back to the Poe pulling the lever, this looks great.

That said, Hal, I took your edit and added the sound of the hyperdrive kicking in. The change is subtle but I really think it helps to sell that sequence.

Take a look: https://vimeo.com/455670684/fefe98d1d7

Nice. Could you send just the sound effect?

I like the quick “boot up” sound of the hyperdrive kicking in. It’s the small things that can help.

Jonh! Good to hear from you. I agree its a good start, but his head seems like it was smooshed onto his body like play-doh, like his head and neck don’t mesh.

For the extra lever shot Hal, It’s nice having a bit of Chewie grown in it, which help connect it well. Very nice.

Jonh!

I think it’s a great start for that shot. I do agree with some of the comments of maybe making his face a tad bit less transparent. I know the footage you used for Adam Driver that works pretty good, but his hair is a bit too flat. If possible, I would blow dry his hair a little bit to add some volume to it. It would help sell it I think.

But great start once again. Your work is amazing. So please, stop being so distracted with “real” work to support yourself and your family and cave into our needs! 😄
